My Daddy died

Feb 1, 2017 10:17 PM

TL:DR He had a pulmonary embolism on Friday and died on Saturday morning, we weren't there.

My mum and dad moved to a remote island 5 years ago. My dad was slightly breathless for the past two weeks but they weren't worried. He had meetings on mainland UK so didn't go to A&E because he was so excited to be a part of them.

He got back to my mum and checked the generator (she doesn't know how to work it so it ran down and stopped working). He came in the door and collapsed, my mum was able to call an ambulance and the resuscitated him after a huge cardiac arrest. He got to the hospital and had to be resuscitated again.

At this point he was critical but stable, my mum called all the kids (there's 6 of us) I got a flight from London as soon as I could

When I got there is didn't belive he was as sick as he was, he was in an acute care in a coma ward with plans to move him to mainland. My mum, two of my brothers and I said goodbye as he was taken to Glasgow. I still couldn't comprehend the situation so only told him laughing that he'd enjoy the bubble wrap he was covered in to keep him warm, I told him to wake up and pop it.

We got a flight the next morning but received the call that he'd died at 11.12am, we wouldn't reach the hospital until almost 4pm. Another brother and sister and my aunt were there as he died.

My mum is broken, we are broken and I don't think it's going to be ok.

He was the original star wars fan and computer geek for the last 57 years an all round nerdy dude. He taught me to appreciate the good things you had to embrace the bad stuff as well.

I love him so much and can't imagine him not being on the other end of the phone.

He'd like the Imgur community, we're dreadful people with the worst sense of humour.

Thank you
