Modern lady roadblocks nazi demonstrators

This image has been making the rounds of Swedish press (and apparently some international) for a few days now. Figured I'd share it here.

The first of may (workers day) about 300 bona fide Nazis went to the Swedish town of Borlänge to march and demonstrate god knows what. The local church opted to ring their bells extra to take a stand against the Nazis (personally I find this weak as shit as compared to the inspiration, the town Jönköping. When Nazis marched there, the church rang their bells for alarm (signaling danger) during the entire march).

Some lady thought 'fuck this shit' and placed herself firmly in the way of the Nazi scum and someone managed to snap a photo before she was removed by police.

Some people thinks this is going to become the new "handbag picture".

Ancient lady handbag nazi demonstrator

This photograph were taken in the town Växsjö in 1985. Then too Nazis marched the streets of Sweden. The lady did not want to be part of the public discussion and declined interviews, so not much is known about her motivations. Her mother was Polish and some sources claim she spent some time in a concentration camp during WW2.

Even though (maybe) condoning violence against political dissenters this photograph is now iconic in Sweden. For sure its powerful though.

Edit: Whoo frontpage! Don't send nudes. Send money. To Amnesty. Or Doctors Without Borders. Or don't. I'm just some guy I have no power over you.

Why do these nazis look like Mormons with beards?

Say what you want about Nazi's, but they're always dressed to the neins.

Keep in mind that nazis still are humans and aslong as it's peaceful they have their rights too.

Fuck those guys! That pizza place in the background got pretty good pizza for when you're drunk..

10 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 7

*unpopular opinion puffin* everyone has the right to peaceably demonstrate, even Nazis. It was wrong for her to disrupt the demonstration.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

I hate racism in general, but I also like the right to a peaceful protest regardless of who they are. Then again, hate group

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

That's the problem. Public demonstrations of ... peaceful... hate normalize the sentiments, empowering less-peaceful demonstrations...

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Not saying they should be disallowed, I'm a staunch free speech advocate. Just saying there's a lot of fun nuance.

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

As a German, please let our grandfathers souls rest in peace and find a new type of racism. Mr. Trump surely helps you.

Do all nazi's wear black cargo pants?

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 3

How else would they carry all their nazi gear?

Maybe, but not all people who wear black cargo pants are Nazis.

Big reason there isa raise in the Nazi movement now is the influx of Muslims into Europe. Dont agree with any of it but looks a lot like ww2

10 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 8

Don't know why you're getting downvoted. It's true. And like you said, you don't agree .. which is good.

That and a shitty economy. I don't know about northern Europe but I am fairly preoccupied by my Italian countrymen

Preoccupied with what?

Growing popularity of right winged movements opposed only by a shortsighted establishment concerned only with selfpreservation

Soldiers of Odin? We have them here too.. They are not doing too well though, leaders are jumping ship and local branches are discontinued.

Come on, Nordic mythology? Why do nazis have to ruin all the cool shit?

10 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 2

Same group. Originally founded by finnish neo-nazis. They say that they're not racists but that's obvious BS.

10 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 8

Yeah, the Swedish SOO claims they're not nazis, it's just the manifesto that the Finnish ones wrote that is.. yeah right..

Handbag lady has a badass facial expression.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

The problem is not the Nazi's. It's that the Nazi's can rally people to their side. You must tear out the roots, not trim the leaves.

I want Handbag Lady to be a secret character in the next Mortal Kombat.

As much as I hate it, in democracy everyone has the right to have to choose a political side and demonstrate. From far right to left.

10 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 3

In Canada, you can do/say anything you want. UNLESS, it infringes on someone else's human rights.

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 2

The idea that you can infringe on someone's human rights just by saying something they dislike is a toxic and dangerous one.

10 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 4

Promoting hate and intolerance by spreading the message through speech is what's dangerous and toxic.

10 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 3

1.2 This has been a debate in Japan for a while who are considering bringing in hate speech laws. Hate speech is awful but freedom of speech

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

2.2 is something to be valued. But it's oppressive to those on the receiving end (particularly nationalized Koreans, Chinese..) Just an

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

3.2 interesting thing I thought I'd mention.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The definition of "hate speech" quickly expands to mean anything that offends anyone.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 3

Or we use common logic and determine the difference between PC and Extremism. Are we not capable of varying degrees.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

You conveniently missed the part when I spoke of infringing on human rights.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 3

My problem is: either everyone has freedom of speech, or nobody does. Alt-Right uses the same arguments as the intersectional SJW BS..

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 4

If you're using freedom of speech to limit freedom of speech for everyone else then maybe...

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

How? How would you do that? Unless you're talking "hurt feelings", how?

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

If you're demonstrating in support of a totalitarian ideology then you obviously want some people to not have freedom of speech

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

But if you're conducting a legal protest, then you're fine. My impression is that SJW's are advocating for an authoritarian system..

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

Can I do the same to them? Their basis is Marxist, arguably as violent and oppressive as Naziism. If they have broken no laws..

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

Same data, different conclusion (advantages deserved, segregated spaces). It's bull, but pretending these guys are the "power" in Sweden..

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

Is just as bad. They are a symptom of issues ignored and PC'ed to death. Of a monoculture that tries to force an idealistic multicultural..

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

Model that ends in parallel societies. Fight their arguments, look at the whole situation, but don't forget their humanity.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I saw an article about this today and the only comments were about how actually it is her that is the racist for her "black power salute"

10 years ago | Likes 43 Dislikes 5

yeah, I could see that. And again if the Nazis bothered to get a permit she's also the one that could be arrested.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 3

It's nothing to do with black power and all to do with anti-fascism/racism.

10 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

It's a socialist thing. The Black Panther Party were socialists.

10 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 3

So were the nazis

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

Not really, no. The "socialist" part of National Socialism died with Gregor Strasser.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They accepted private property rights, but wanted a state-controlled economy to be run for the benefit of the people. (scare quotes ommited)

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

No, they didn't. They privatised quite a lot of stuff that had been nationalised by the Weimar Republic

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The only thing they did even resembling left wing economics is deficit spending to stimulate the economy

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

About as socialist as the democratic republic of North Korea is a democratic republic

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Didn't even cross my mind. I suppose that's a cultural difference between Sweden/Europe and America: gestures don't necessary mean the same.

10 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 5

Isn't the right fist up a gesture of the "lefties" ?

10 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

yeah, that's why it's weird that people associate it strictly with black power

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

According to Wikipedia its signifies Communism, or "lefties" in Europe. We're going to have to wait for an interview to know her motivation.

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

no no, according to them, she was a black panther spreading black nationalism in front of some innocent guys trying to keep home swedish.

10 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

I only looked for interviews in Swedish press, but who would answer there when the guardian calls :P

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I meant more specifically about the gesture. Is it a black power fist? A communist fist? Or simply a fist of defiance? No use in speculating

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Idk why but I kinda expect Nazis to look tough, not like terrible Shaun of the Dead cosplay.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

People who get brainwashed by extremism, whether Nazi, KKK, ISIL, etc., are usually the weakest humans.

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 3

That's... That's not at all how brainwashing works...

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 7

Please enlighten me then. Tell me how extremist groups don't prey on the vulnerable to become members.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Vulnerable doesn't equal weakest, and smart people can chose to follow extremist ideologies.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Saying only weak or vulnerable people get brainwashed into cults or such trivializes the processes of indoctrination that groups develop.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

You obviously have trouble with English and don't know what the word "usually" means.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 3

It's a nice image and all but you shouldn't try to stop someones right to demonstrate

10 years ago | Likes 30 Dislikes 17

Even though if these people got power they would do exactly that. It's your duty to be intolerant of intolerance.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 3

Everything this happens there's a shitstorm crazy and mad people. "The police should only allow demonstrations I approve of hurr derr"

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 4

I'm totally fine w/ Germany banning Nazi demonstrations.

10 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 7

When exactly did that happen?

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I'm not. Don't give a shit about nazis' political rights, but attempts to establish historical truths by public force are counterproductive

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 3

I think when your history includes a political group murdering millions of people and starting a world war, banning that group is A-OK.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 5

I think vocal social responses are much more effective: a ban will easily become fuel for conspiracy holocaust denial theories

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

So because we don't like their message they don't get to talk? As long as they follow the rules they get to have their chance to speak.

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 5

I think when your history includes a political group murdering millions of people and starting a world war, banning that group is A-OK.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 5

We need to let them speak. That way, they cannot play the victim card or feign martyrdom. It also educates people on their wrongs.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They get their chance, just like everyone else. Either the rule applies to/for all or it's not a rule.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

Their history will speak for them, as we can clearly see in all of the derision they receive and the counterprotests.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

And once they're in power they remove everyone elses chance to speak. So... ?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 3

You really think they're going to be in power? That, right now, they're gaining a foothold and undermining our government?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

History teaches us that it's possible. I prefer to learn from history.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

She's demonstrating too

10 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 14

Actually, she is preventing political opponents from demonstrating, which is a tinny bit dictatorish

10 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 8

No, it isn't. The right to demonstrate means the government won't stop you, not that other people won't protest your protest

10 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 8

Actually, it kind of does when it says you cannot interfere with other people's political liberties.

10 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 3

Which is all very lofty, then these people get in to power and they don't have the same ideals. Protesting is banned because you didn't

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

Counter protests are absolutely legal unless you use physical force, like for example the NRM in Sweden do.

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

confront them when you had the chance.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

But does she have a permit?

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

She was a part of a counter protest so I guess

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 4

In Finland the counter protesters rarely apply for the permit

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

As a Swede, I say, screw nazism!. But our totalitarian political system is even worse, which is one of the the reasons behind today's racism

10 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 14

You think your current system is *worse* than Nazism? That's patently absurd.

10 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 2

Is it? No one is allowed to say anything if its not according the totalitarian standards.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 8

So is SD not allowed to have their racist beliefs? Are they banned from Parliament?

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 4

Seems to me the others have really tried to ban them

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That is a pretty idiotic statement, and betrays a stunning lack of understanding of Nazism.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

My point. Those guys in pic havent done anything nazzis have, and still you call them nazzis. Double standards.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

Not at all. Here, at least, they don't do those things because it's illegal but they /want/ to. They want the political power to do so.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Does present "not being allowed" mean "beaten to death or deported in concentration camp"? In that case you're absolutely right, otherwise..

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

So you are saying that these people in pic above have reported people to concentration camps?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Really? They call themselves nazi so I treat them as such. Moreover, you started to compare present political system to nazism.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0
