I know people say that it gets easier every day and while that is true to a degree, I've been dreading this day for a few weeks. Exactly a year ago at this time, he was alive and a few hours later he passed away suddenly and unexpectedly. My dog passed away a few weeks ago, but I knew that was coming for a few months and I had time to say my goodbyes. Some days I'm fine, but every now and then something will trigger a memory and I'll break down. I was watching 'Mortal Kombat' the other day and at the end when the song Halcyon (by Orbital) came on, I just started sobbing uncontrollably. That was his favorite song and I was introduced to it when we watched 'Hackers' together a few years ago.
I keep trying to relive my memories (listening to songs he showed me on Youtube, watching movies we watched together, etc). Just anything that lets me remember our time together. I keep trying to imagine an existence where he is still with me and I would give anything to talk to him one last time, even if it's to say goodbye.
I love you Sam. You are and always shall be my friend.

I'm sorry for your loss, @op ... It never stops hurting, but it does get easier to cope with over time.

My sister passed a year ago and yesterday I moved into what used to be her bedroom. Really nice room but...

Halcyon is one of my favorite songs as well, fun movies, enjoy the memories of the time you had.

It never hurts less, it just hurts less often. Sorry for your loss.

Never heard it put so succinctly.

I lost my partner suddenly 3 years ago now after being together 18 years. You don't get over it but if you let yourself grieve fully and +1
GuestChrist
take all the time you need to do so, things gradually get easier. You stop bursting into tears as much but the pain is still there. Don't +1
GuestChrist
let anybody make you grieve on their schedule- yes you have every right to feel sorry for yourself. It won't be OK, but it will get easier.

Thank you for posting this. I lost my mom on the 14th and this explains what it feels like pretty well. I often feel like I can't breath

Like I am barely holding on and can't fight the tide. I seem to be triggered at random. Now I have a way to explain this better, thank you.
