Books!

Here we are. After my post 159 of you wonderful people contacted me with recommendations, good vibes and a longing for more reading material! And I was happy to oblige.
Despite my likely developing RSI from answering every single message, I got through it, and I am proud to present the winner!

"How did you do it?"
Well, after I added each username to a list in google sheets, I copy pasted the entire list into this random list generator on https://www.random.org/lists/ , and it spat out a list for me. The person topping that list was....

*Drumroll Please*

I really enjoyed this series with my kids.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This series looks really cool. If you’re looking for something to read I suggest The Color of Magic by Terry Pratchett

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

It's an amazing series.

8 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Just saw the post on the front page and then came across this. +10 for being such a top bloke. I'm upvoting of your 10 comments.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

May have gotten a little carried away, something like +20ish.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I appreciate all the internet points you throw my way. ????

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Now I am slightly regretting switching completely to electronic on all my books and comics. I would have loved to do a book exchanges :(

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

You can always go out and buy a book, read it, and gift it after. Your choice. No pressure either way tho. <3

8 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

Wanna be a mod/admin for the imgur book swap club? Please?

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I'd love to!

8 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

Sweet, go ahead and start one/pm martynMage for tips, perhaps? I'll definitely join but ain't nobody got time to build a site, plus idk how

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Ok that had spooked my interest. This I would love to read????

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I see what you did there. ;)

8 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

The spook series is a lovely read. Highly recommended, should anyone be unsure if they'll like them.

8 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

What are they about?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

people who fight witched and demons and shit. It's pretty good. I stopped reading at book 10 though.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Late response: It's about a boy that's taken in as the ward of a Spook; a man whom fight the occult for a living. Great series. Easy read.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Huge fan of this series. Read them during my deployment

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The Spook?

8 years ago | Likes 66 Dislikes 2

As someone who grew up in the south, I was very uncomfortable.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I've been hearing this used more lately, never in the context I know it. But I still do the whole duck and look around "duuuude, not kool"

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

The dude ain't black.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I really never heard the word used as a racial slur until I watched a let's play of The Fractured but Whole

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm glad i wasn't alone on this one

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I was thinking the same thing bud, funny how words have very different connotations in different places

8 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

From the South here, had the same thought.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Can you explain for my friend please

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Spook is a racist term for Black people that a small but vocal portion of the South may use even today.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I've got a growing pile of books on my nightstand, but right now I'm reading Sanderson's "Warbreaker." It's been a good read so far.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

That's the one that got me to read everything else he's written. If you like it, recommend his other works as well!

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I'm already reading the Stormlight Archive c: Just waiting for the third book's paperback release; which is taking forever!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Just read ur Scott pilgrim post , I am now following u on Imgur because ur the super nicest person iv come across lately

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Thanks man, I appreciate it <3

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

We should start something like Secret Santa, where everyone who participates sends someone else their favourite book.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I'm currently taking part in a redditgift exchange, which is pretty much this just on a massive scale.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Malazan Book of the Fallen

8 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 0

Is it a good read?

8 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

My favorite

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So very, very much. It's a 10 book series on par with Jordan's Wheel of Time series, probably a little better.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I love it but don't get too attached to the characters.... Like I know people say that about GoT but Malazan is so much moreso.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Oh yes

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The best.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It is. Be warned it’s incredibly dense.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

☝ This, but so amazing.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

You're just a super rad dude. I recommend to you The Long Way to a Small Angry Planet by Becky Chambers. (cont.)

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

While it's more of a travelogue than a traditional novel, it's also something that I think we need more of: optimistic sci-fi.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thanks for the compliment man! It's noted! Thanks for the suggestion! :)

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I read almost constantly but if you haven’t you should totally read the Demonata series by Darren Shan the author of Cirque du freak

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Noted! Thanks for the Suggestion!

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

The Magicians trilogy by Lev Grossman

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

So amazing- could not put these down

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Not after the books but really enjoy the wheel of time, David Eddings, Terry Brooks, Terry Pratchett, Russell Hobb and the like. Currently 1

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Re-reading the belgararth/polgara books and would appreciate any suggestions. Thank you

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Obvious picks probs but other eddings - mallorean (if not already), sparhawk (two trilogies), dreamers (quadrilogy), althalus (stand-alone)

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

try Raymond E Feist-the Magician series, Piers Anthony- incarnations of Immortality, and for a quest, Guy Gavriel Kay-Fionavar tapestry

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm working my way through the Dark Tower series. I recommend it to anyone who was annoyed by the movie.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I've only read the first book myself and have a few more waiting. I can't wait to read more of them! :)

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

The Dark Tower series is fantastic. It goes places that Stephen King isn’t usually known for. It’s also my favorite book series ever!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Ahhh, I can't spell the names of the fantasy books I love, but I recommend Robin Hobb's trilogy of trilogy, David Edding's Belgariad etc, 1/

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

and Ursula La Guin's Earthsea books. Jean Auel if you want caveman adventure stories/kinda-almost porn. 2/2

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Earth sea is phenomenal- so simple and so complex ❤️

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Hmmm... Intreguing (Probably spelt wrong). Thanks for the suggestion :)

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Do you have these on blu-ray?

8 years ago | Likes 142 Dislikes 1

Asking the real questions.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

They never made movies of em?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The movie adaptation is abysmal, stay away unless you want to watch Jeff Bridges and Julianne Moore embarrass themselves.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

There was a movie but it went the way of Eragon, a travesty.

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

A shame they never made an eragon movie you mean?

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

A shame that they did.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Hmm... Is that the one where there's a tape inside, sort of, vaguely, box-shaped?

8 years ago | Likes 83 Dislikes 0

No those are Betas, they're talking about a different type of fish.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

A Willow is a type of fish, no?

8 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

Nah, he's talking about those sea rays, like sting rays and whatnot. The ones out in the Great Blue.

8 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

Ah, those! I wondered why it sounded familiar...

8 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

Those books look awesome. Thanks for being a great person ????

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

You're welcome. It's the least I can do. :)

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

So if someone were to get these books, do they return them? Or pass them on?

8 years ago | Likes 31 Dislikes 0

https://imgur.com/nJxUlNH

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

think i just saw the imgur Library Project get born

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'd go for passing them on. I've thought about writing a little "This book has been read by..." - Entry somewhere in each book, but I've (1)

8 years ago | Likes 42 Dislikes 0

That would be neat having a traveling set of books

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

... not decided quite yet if I should. (2)

8 years ago | Likes 32 Dislikes 0

That's a wicked idea! Imagine finding them 10+ years down the track after the books have been all over the world :D

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Put your username ón it

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah maybe try to put little "checkout" cards in them, with the username, and state an country

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Another great idea. This sounds a bit like the beginning of the "Great imgur Book Exchange... Club...?"

8 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

YES. LETS BEGIN THE THING!

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

I love this series, don't bother with the film though...dreadful.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

So this IS that series? Thomas and the Seventh Son and the pointy shoed girls?

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I didn't know it existed... Shame to hear it was shitty.

8 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

I think it's called Seventh Son, it just messes with the story and characters too much. Should have been completely separate IMO.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I like the idea of passing on used books. Makes we want to see what I could send out too.. organize the book trade @ArrJayBee !

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Maybe we can try and come up with a list of what we have available and make a post

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Graphic novels are a good inbetween as well I have alot that sit on my shelf all lonley n shit would be keen to share

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I have some good Hellboy ????

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Actual book salesmen might not be a fan of it but... Fuck it, let's see what we can do. ;)

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

No one should go without the opportunity to read and experience these adventures

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I have several books piled up that were going to go to goodwill/thrift store, I'd join in if there wasn't some form of shipping cost

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Well, that's usually the biggest issue (cost of shipping), so goodwill might be the best choice. You could ask around your immediate (1)

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

... surroundings (friends and family) wether or not anyone's interested? Just a suggestion. (2) :)

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I live about 7 hours from all of my immediate family, and I don't have many friends, I live in nowhere and do running start so I never see

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That's awesome! doing a "read a book a month" challenge, if anyone wants to gimme recommendations. I prefer sci-fi/fantasy stuff.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

If you have not read Dune yet it is the best!

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Have seen many rave reviews about this one lately, so my curiosity is peaked. Will pick it up for April book of the month, thanks!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Sci-fi: Bobiverse series, Fantasy: Kingkiller chronicles. Mix of both: 14 and The Fold

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

If you are in the mood for something a little different, I really enjoyed The Fifth Season by N.K. Jemisin.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Did you read The Inheritance Trilogy by N.K. Jemisen? I loved that too

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

i 'bootleged' but google 144k scifi fantasy, its all older but you wont live long enough to read em all (and PLEASE pay when you can) /2

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

i was bored bur 8+GB of reading i cant pass up, most is 'meh' but a lot is gems, and you can pay the author direct after,. (its illegal)

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Thank you. I firmly believe in purchasing books, paper or digital.. Although I did read a flimsy novel set on my phone once lol.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

i support piracy of most things, but book that take a week to read is years of thought by dozens of artist, BAEN is good about paying author

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Fantasy: Wheel of Time, Song of Fire & Ice, Stormlight Archive, Malazan Book of the Fallen Sci-Fi: Ender's Game Series, Heritage Trilogy 1/2

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Thank you for taking the time to recommend! Will absolutely take a look around for them!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Expanse Series, Stainless Steel Rat series. A little of both: Try Otherland by Tad Williams. 2/3

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Other authors I'm partial to: Anne McCaffery, Ursula K. Leguin, Andre Norton, R. A. Salvatore. 3/3

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Orwell is a good Go-To, Hitchikers Guide to the Galaxy is amazing, Enders Game... There's so much.

8 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Haven't read Enders game yet. 1984 is a favorite! Have u read "darkness at noon" and if so, thoughts/would recommend?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Ender’s Game- book and movie do not match. Do not expect to read exactly what was on screen. Also, the rest of the series is not like first.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thank you, I will definitely give it a go. I did watch the movie already but that rarely stops me from reading the books.
