Blister inside of a Blister

We do a lot of hiking, even when your boots are broken in and you have clean socks you can still get blisters. This is a picture of a blister I ripped off, that had another blister inside of it - fun right?

River breaks in Idaho

This guy didn't seem to mind us hanging around

This one is hard to see, but it's a white bark pine growing out of a rock spire. The picture doesn't do it justice. In person, with a ray of sunlight coming through a crack in the rock face behind it, this was completely surreal.

I liked the shape of this hill

Some lakes, lots of fish in the bottom two

Deep in the back country, late september

This guy didn't mind us either, hope he's acquired a healthy fear of people by now.

16 hour days wear you down, this guy fell asleep with a stick in his hand

Hiking back to the trucks after a hard day's work

After a very hard fought 100 acres

Typical chainsaw picture. Every non-sawyer has a picture like this from the day someone was training them. Don't be fooled though, this guy is a bad-ass, we've been lead saws together for years.

Here comes this guy with all of our food, glad he made it.

I spent over two weeks here, this was the water filtering spot. We hiked the tall peak on the right almost every day

Mornings on lookout

The horse with blacked out eyes makes this.

Extremely high levels of badass! Be safe bro.

+1 for liking the shape of the hill

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

as an Idaho native, thanks for helping prevent more of our state from burning down

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

+1 for horse face censorship

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

I know that horse! I think back in 90s he was in a very famous TV show...

Oh my god its Idaho! We're always on fire don't worry but how long you been fighting?

9 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

Baked potatoes. Yay !

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

What in the world did natives use to paint rocks that it's still around today?

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

Paint, duh

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

Indigenous people were making those paintings right up until a few hundred years ago, probably that these weren't all that old

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Mineral-based and mixed with spit sometimes, then lungs and mouth are used as a sort of airbrush. In W Europe at least; not sure for here.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Same techniques, yep. Obvious example in the southwest US: http://www.singingdesert.com/rock-art-images/_IGP1739.jpg

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

@op try 5.11 tactical for boots. I've never had to break them in, most comfortable boots I've used in my 8 years in EMS

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Our stuff has to be all leather and the soles need to be screwed down, else the heat will mess them up

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yeah im not sure as far regulations for that sort of thing. I just love my 5.11's and its practically what everyone uses on our force

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Don't rip off blisters! That's healing juice under there!

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

With the amount of time he spends in his boots, the blister will just pop anyways. Better to rip it off and form a callus.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

This guy gets it

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This was my 3rd season with the FS. Hell yeah I do.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Why did you peel the protective skin barriers off your blisters? You should leave the skin intact for as long as possible.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

It took me until I was 12 to figure this one out. If it's filled with fluid, small cut to drain, leave the rest intact as long as possible.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Have a few friends who do forest fire fighting, it's a very underappreciated job.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Yeah, considering it's like, the hardest and most exhausting most likely. Badass mofos right there. Mad love for them.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I really hope this gets to the front page. Where abouts is this at, @op?

9 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

Mostly ID and WY, one or two from UT or AZ

9 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Were you on the pioneer fire?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I don't think so

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This is all Idaho? It's beautiful.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Like no other. If you think it's beautiful, you should smell the air! ...well when it's not on fire, is best.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Censored horses eyes +1

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Saw 10 of these guys walking back to their truck after a long day. Axes over one shoulder and covered in ash. You guys are complete badasses

9 years ago | Likes 175 Dislikes 2

Were they also muscular?

9 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

For personal masturbation purposes, I am imagining them as such.

9 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

That horse looks familiar...

9 years ago | Likes 40 Dislikes 0

Ever seen Sex and the City?

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I think back in the 90s he was in a very famous TV show

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Poor OP censored its face for nothing then :(

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Firefighters are way hotter than Police officers.

9 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

But the officers are packing heat?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah but firefighters are good pole dancers.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I mean, you are technically correct.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Police officers aren't hot at all, so not the best comparison, but Firefighters are the hottest of all manly men.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

As a structural firefighter you wildland guys are nuts! It's gotta be tough carrying around your giant titanium balls. Testicular fortitude

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Stay safe my woodland brother.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

You have an extremely tough and dangerous job. Please stay safe and thanks for all you do!!

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

God with you

9 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 3

Much fucking respect for you and that censored horse. He must be important. Or in the FBI witness protection.

9 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

Maybe when they asked him to sign a release form he said neigh.

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

+1 for protecting the identy of the horse.

9 years ago | Likes 191 Dislikes 1

My +1 is for "this guy fell asleep with a stick in his hand."

9 years ago | Likes 30 Dislikes 1

At first I thought he lost his face. That would be tragic.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Real life Fire Watch.

9 years ago | Likes 36 Dislikes 0

I scrolled down looking to see of someone had posted this comment.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

My thoughts exactly.

9 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

If those drawings are real you should report their location to a museum for inspection

9 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 1

Nah, they just draw those on their lunch break. "Hey Bob look - I put 18 antlers on this one"

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Sick photos! Glad you blocked the horses eyes.

9 years ago | Likes 1508 Dislikes 2

I know that horse. We hang out all the time. He's a good guy

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

Maybe it's a new kind of horse blinder

9 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

"This horse is freaking out!" "Eh, we'll fix it in post."

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Also remember how that country used to have indians?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I just think it's badass there are still jobs that utilize mules in 2016

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Only thing I zoomed on!

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

God I snorted at this comment.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

he didn't block the other horse's eyes!

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Pretty sure those are donkeys or mules, which are better than horses in steep terrain. Mules still deliver mail in the Grand Canyon!

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

Yes, William.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Mustangs are very hardy. The ones in the movie UNBRANDED were especially hardy

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Good Movie!!!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Horses need protection from celebrity like the rest of us. They get too many horse panties thrown at them otherwise.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

That sent me flyin.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I totally would've recognized that horse if he hadn't.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

your censor can't fool me, it was obviously sarah jessica parker

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

OP believes in equinanominity.

9 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

Sorry, I didn't mean to put that gross picture of my foot right up front, I've never posted anything before.

9 years ago | Likes 3069 Dislikes 12

Dude...how do you get a job like this?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You could have led with literally any other photo.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 7

I think more people are going to click the post out of morbid curiosity than they otherwise would've for the pretty scenery/wildlife.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You did well! Awesome pics.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Were you on the Pioneer fire here in Idaho? If so, hats off to you.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Could you go a Q&A or if you use reddit, an AMA?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

neat

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You keep that foot right where you put it.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Thought it was a picture of jiggers, don't google it.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Lots of hiking in my past. You need to tape your toes. Saves a lot of pain later.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Keeping posting. You keep up the good work and be safe.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

to me, it was like click bait! but better!!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Almost skipped the post because of it. Glad I didnt! Great pictures.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Are those cave paintins legitimate? If so I hope they are protected from any vandalism.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

YOU WERE THE CHOSEN ONE!

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Hahah honestly I think it worked in your favor there, weird ass bunch of folks on the webs

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

WHY WOULD YOU RIP OFF A DOUBLE BLISTER THOUGH AHHHH

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You're in usersub, that's what most of us opened it for, brother.

9 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 0

Be safe, OP.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I wish I had that thing on my foot so I could tear the skin away. Also, it's what got me here in the first place!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

its good mang. I feel like a suprise double blister is worse than an expected one.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You are a badass! Do you work as a hotshot? I just read about the process of wildlife firefighting and it is too cool!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Blister rules number one. Don't burst it on purpose. Want an infection?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The blister thing happened to me all the time in soccer and it made me go crazy...

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My tryphobia is acting up again

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Scrolled immediately past because of the blister the first time. Gave it a chance the second time. Wish I could upvote you more than once.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Blisterception

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

As someone who pretty much spent their childhood helping out farmers on farms on top of a very cold mountain, footwraps are your friends.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Dammit man!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

What brand boots are you typically using?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

But HOW do you het a blistering blister?

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

One blister popping and then enough friction on next layer of skin to cause another blister

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

No. you're okay. That's somebody's fetish.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I can only imagine what the inside of his boots smell like :D

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Came for the blister, stayed wishing for another blister picture. Dissapointed.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

no worries man you're doing awesome work and these were great pictures with a great post overall

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That blister within a blister is a special kind of hell

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I've lived in idaho

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thank you for protecting that land

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's ok OP

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I had an online friend (gamer) and he was a volunteer fire men but he died one night trying to put a house out... it took 3 months

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Until we knew what happened... and sadly he was the leader of our gaming group so a lot of his friends left thinking he just quit :(

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Sorry for losing your hero friend. I live in beautiful Colorado, where many forest fires happen. Thanks to all who risks their lives 1/2

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I literally was chewing on a piece of cheesy garlic bread when your foot picture assaulted my eyes and made me lose my appetite

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ever see a big foot? Haha - double meaning

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You're doing it right buddy, keep it up!

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Can you tell us more about those caribou/moose paintings please?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

#1 Ever try using cornstarch baby powder? That would absorb the sweat which softens skin and makes blisters.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Mole Skin is your friend.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

This was an awesome post man. My dad comes back from wildfires with some pretty amazing pictures too. I'm about to get my red card too.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Came for the toe pic, stayed for the awesome pictures.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It looked like you stepped on a nail, I was going to recommend a tetanus booster. :P

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Where do you work out of? -Idaho wildland firefighter

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Be careful of pseudomonas infections

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

That's what drew me in :)

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's a shock value clickbait, for some reason it works.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Do you live in ID? I grew up in Nampa, going up to Sun Valley for the season to work!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Nar man its cool, looks like a real cool and metal job, all that nature and all

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Reverse click bait! Worked like a charm.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So...in all seriousness how does one get this job? Mine won't last and this looks like it would keep me happy

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Usa jobs forestry technician (fire). You have to take a basic 40 class first as well as pass a bunch of tests

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Thanks @op I threw up

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Wait by any chance do you know Danny Kurth? @OP

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Dude I'm interested in that line of work. Can you send me links/info and tell me about the path you took towards getting there?

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

You can work for the state too like the Idaho department of Lands or Washington DNR

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The fed crews pay more but are way more competitive

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Getting in as a "seasonal" (summer only) hire is easy if you're young, fit, and willing to travel. They'll (F&WS, BLM) train new labor.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Permanent jobs are much more competitive. You'd need lots of seasonal experience, and/or forestry education & background.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

If you want to make a shit-ton of money in a summer, salary plus overtime plus hazard pay (wildfire = hazardous work) piles up really fast.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Commit a felony. Get put in a minimum security camp. Have fun.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Camp Crew worker here (I hand out your guys' lunches and water every morning) you guys are the hardest working badasses ever! Respect!!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Where in Idaho where you?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Where are you from in our wonderful state? I'm from the Couer D'Alene area

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Oh it's pretty up there! I visited some cousins there last Thanksgiving. I lived in Pocatello a year, where it's decidedly less pretty lol

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's pretty crazy how different the state is. Down there is cool .. but I definitely prefer up here

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Freakin big state. Audiobooks and I became good friends for driving literally anywhere. Check out Challis/Salmon area sometime! Gorgeous.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I was going to say, this started...strong.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Did you just sensor that horse's face

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My feet have looked like that simply working in a kitchen. But you're still awesome

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Came for the blister, stayed for the pretty pictures

9 years ago | Likes 218 Dislikes 1

*to

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Same here! They are amazing....thank you @OP

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I seriously lolled at that. Bravo friend, bravo.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Ditto, great content and quality.. I really liked #4 and #13 and of course the owl O.O

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Roses are red violets are blisters

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I trained for this in idaho. Unfortunately, i sprained my ankle pretty bad and the forest service denied my entry. Also high blood pressure

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Bummer! What part of Idaho?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Bummer! What part of Idaho?

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I was training in Nampa while at job corp. I missed two practice burns and was too far behind to catch up with my group so i missed out.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Dang, that's rough. Are you from the area originally?

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

No, I'm from/live in Washington. I only went to idaho for job corp. The fire crew training came up by chance. I trained my ass off for it.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Dude this is imgur. Where strange wounds make it to FP on their own merit. And you added other pretty pics and firefighter stuff. It's great

@OP, have a blistered blister right below my big toe on both my feet

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Are all these photos from Idaho, OP? My eternal ignorance prevented me from realizing that Idaho could be so beautiful.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

No apologies needed, that was an extreme cool way to filter really interested folks from "just bored!" people. I liked that.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Was this the Pioneer fire or other?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's from a bunch of different fires, the Pioneer sounds familiar but I don't think I was on it, maybe it was near by?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I was on the Pioneer this summer. That fire was serious haha

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Hey, where in Idaho? I live here, some of that looks familiar.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Can we see more of you like with your shirt off?

9 years ago | Likes 53 Dislikes 5

Creepy asf

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 6

Whatever...you wanna see to

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

Why hasn't @OP posted his shirtless picture?! :(

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Yes please! I don't know a single female who doesn't like looking at firefighters <3

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

OUUUUCH

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Believe it or not, but that picture is what attracted people

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Please op, never rip off the skin of your blisters! Ubi pus ibi evacua, but just open it with a needle and squeeze out the blister fluid 1/2

9 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 0

Yep! After puncturing, the skin will turn hard and protective in about a day. Always puncture, never tear.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The skin of the blister works as natural protection from infections until the skin underneath has recovered! Sauce: son of dermatologists

9 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 0

I usually do what you said or just make tiny tiny cut, then use dry antiseptic. Heals pretty fast. Faster than leaving it alone imho

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Or, if it is not causing too much discomfort as-is, just leave it completely alone. It'll do its thing and be gone after a while.

9 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

I'm a bit of a wilderness medicine expert and I concur, especially if you're going to keep walking on it, additional protection.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yeah that what they told me in boy scouts. That is why I make sure to pack some moleskin whenever I hike or backpack.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Tell me more about that blister.

9 years ago | Likes 80 Dislikes 2

His name was Jerry, and he spoke in a French accent.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

to make a long story short, we put in a bunch of long days scouting - that, and rebuilt boots - condemned me to this blister

9 years ago | Likes 62 Dislikes 0

That looks rough i am thinking about joining a hand crew next year is there anything i should know before hand? 1/2

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

2/2 I have worked with the forest service before not on a fire crew but on a ycc crew

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Well Xzibit heard he liked blisters, and then...

9 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Has there been any puss in it?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

What boots do you wear?

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

The ones made for walkin'

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

..and thats just what they'll dooo, keep on askin these questions and they'll walk allll over you... :P

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

We asked for more, not a summarization of more.

9 years ago | Likes 31 Dislikes 1

i'm with this guy. i wanna know the ins and outs of getting a blister inside a blister

9 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 0

Well the inside is a blister, and the outside is another blister. Hope that cleared things up for you.

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

Not OP, but I've had a few. Essentially a blister can callous over before it heals. Then another blister can go over that whole mess.

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

The blistered blister is what made me open it, so you done good son.

9 years ago | Likes 1281 Dislikes 4

9 years ago | Likes 221 Dislikes 2

I will do it

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

i got you, boyyo

9 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 0

You drank an awful lot of soda pop. I'm proud of you. You done good, son.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Now listen here boy you have to earn a "you did good son" and you ain't gonna do that sleeping all day. Set an alarm wake up before the sun

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Like... If it's vacation or weekend here... I wake up after the sun goes down in the winter...

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

It's hard not to wake up before the sun in winter, or to wake up after actually. Fuck winter is what I'm saying.

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

Take a picture of the sunrise. Get a physical copy of it and hang it somewhere. Make that your you did good sun

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0
