Anniversary is next week, and boyfriend keeps complaining about his current crappy coffee table. I'm nervous to give this to him
My boyfriend is a huge X-Men fan (Wolverine specifically) so I hunted down a ton of old comics, and a table, and decided to try my hand at refurbishing.
The top, plus snacks! (I had already started ripping off the previous owners bad paint job..)
I assume whoever had this had pets...I hope... Either way these dents had to go!

Kyrie only wanted to help if pictures and/or snacks were involved.
I'm working with a limited budget guys.
Taping off the legs to keep the paint where I wanted.
Bottom almost done!
The table legs were sanded down as much as my arms could stand, filled with wood filler goop and then sanded some more.
Mapping out the cut out blurbs to fit the table.
It pained my heart to cut up so many awesome comic books..

I've never worked with Modge Podge before, and I think I laid it on a little thick because a lot of the comic strips bubbled. I'm pretty proud of myself though, and until I can surprise my boyfriend and switch his old coffee table out with this new one, telling you fine folks will have to do to help me keep my trap shut for one more week!

The comics were NOT my boyfriend's! I do not own a printer and all of them were bought from cheapo bins in comic book shops. I simply looked for the oldest ones I could find. I'm not a heathen guys!

Also a tip for checking if it's cured completely: sniff it. If it still smells of the solvent in the can, it's still curing.

My husband does a lot of this type of stuff, and he uses a clear enamel, sprayed or brushed on. That should preserve it pretty well. :)

There's some stuff called Pour On. It's a kind of resin. Easy to work with and would be awesome for this provided all the paper is sealed!

You could also put a sheet of glass over the top of it. Some clear coats can be a bit sticky even if they are dry.
