wanted to title this just IT gore but everything was just too good not to include. Enjoy!

the text in this one. Would windows do that?

I think this they used that bucket as "ground". Electricians, please help on this one.

idk what's going on in this one--- y-ohhhhh.... they're attempting to power something low voltage? Help out please.

Code on the right returns 5 if a == b.

Also, it can be optimized to, which doesn't even need to be commented, this:

inline int max(int a, int b)
{
return a > b ? a : b;
}

code on the left is the fast inverse square root, wikipedia it
"ATkarliekloss wow I don't understand it but the code on the right looks so much more organized."

This is why women shouldn't touch code with a 5 foot pole, they care more about how the code "looks" rather than functionality and quality of code.
sorry for the trigger

What's wrong here? These don't look US standard?

All hail lenny the electric lizard
He got down to electric avenue

And then it took him higher

electricians wiring networks

This is from a person's, co-workers PC, that is a stock LGA-775 cooler that was in a prebuilt acer. even the machines can forget covers

What's happening here? I don't know what's going on.

What's happening here?

If this post makes number 1 on front page I'll ship my laptop which I dropped and it's hinge broke, to a person in the comments.

Great dump OP thank you.

This turned into a cringe post halfway through

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

This is proof that some people dont deserve to live.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

This post made my ears bleed. I'm now going to have nightmares about this, for sure.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

-1 for the weird little sexist nonsense. I work in IT and some of my most effective and professional colleagues are women.

9 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 3

Have you tried turning it off and back on again?

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Louis Rossmall is getting tingles , and knows somewhere, some nasty shit has happened.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

All this gore made me vomit.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

It just kept on getting worse and worse. And it began to hurt more and more

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Once had a customer cut off pins from an AMD CPU to try and get it into an Intel motherboard then demand a refund.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Plot twist: he bought it at the store next door

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Got pretty sexist in your commentary for #31. Not universally true.

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 3

Yeah #31 looks like a pedal switch for something.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You mean #29?

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

So hot right now

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The mess you didn't understand is a switch, firewall, and router.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Im a girl and I learned how to code in hs... i forgot most of what I learned but you're a dick @op

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Best way to get that shiny new motherboard look and smell again.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Ground to bucket is terrible, they would have done better to simply lay rod on the grate.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Sure, but that was done who had no idea what "grounding" means.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Obviously they had a firm understanding of literally grounding

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Hey dipshit, documenting your code is part of basic fucking coding. Readability is important you'll learn this once you graduate high school

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

I disagree on the part that documenting is the same as readability. Should focus on clean code, instead of relying on comments.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

#9 Sounds like Windows has a cold

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Seen it - usually bad ram > 640k < 1mb, where VGA buffer resides.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Yep, even seen this on modern computers with bad RAM. Its pretty funny

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Some of he best coders I know are women. Get out of here with that ignorant bullshit. Men and women alike can write bad, unreadable code.

9 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 1

Been in support for years, this is both grossing me out and giving me PTSD level flashbacks of having to deal with calls like this myself

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I kinda liked the one where they used their computer as a frying pan. Who doesn't want snacks while the're gaming?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Fair point, but who do you think they come to when their computer doesn't work because they stuck in the dishwasher to clean off the oil?!

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Fair enough... and knowing how long i can continue gaming, this might be the end result

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Both code examples are crap. The left tries to be clever and just makes a nightmare to deal with later. /1

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

The right is stupid and ridiculously over commented, but at least I could tell what it did with one glance. Better that than the left crap.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

If i have to pick up and fix someone else's code, i'll take the right any day. Nothing makes code harder to maintain than trying to be cute,

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

downvoting because of that one statement. you know which one.

9 years ago | Likes 86 Dislikes 6

Has op ever met an actual female? My code is efficient and unreadable af, no emojis required

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

Most of my professors for coding were women and they were all awesome.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

#29 1) she didn't say they did the same thing. 2) god forbid people comment their code. 3) men =/= good coders, women =/= bad coders.

9 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 2

And god forbid whats-her-face inspires a few girls to try coding, even through bullshit means. We need more people to take interest in STEM

9 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

Keep on supporting people who are good at it. At our college the it and programming classes are growing with female students. 1/2

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Some with great ideas for apps and they want to learn how to make that app. Also the organisation of women can help men 2/3

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

See it als helping eachother, bc be fair. We men can be awful with documentation and organisation :) 2 flies with one stone 3/3

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

yep. They're using it as ground. And with all that metal around too.

9 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 0

Unless it was very high voltage wouldn't the amount of metal there dissipate the electricity to the point of not being a huge deal ?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah, that's the thing. That would be perfect to lead a ground cable to. But they put it in a bucket of dirt!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That handrail would make a good ground btw. As long as no one touched it

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

More of a static discharge than an actual ground. Generators are notorious for static buildup.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Wow. Tell me this is a joke played on the new guy or something...

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I would hope so.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Nah, generators tend to build up static. This is used as a discharge method. Not an actual ground.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Ah right, that's fair enough.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Am I the only one here who thinks the code thing came off as a bit sexist?

9 years ago | Likes 201 Dislikes 13

Not sexist - just stupid.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Yeah! All those stupid women talking about us stronger and smarter men! I'm offended!

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 12

Also I'm pretty sure it's fake and OP has never felt the touch of a loving woman. But it might be just me.

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Yeah. I was about to comment the post was good until the part about women not being allowed to code...

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It is incredibly sexist. And @OP's statement commenting on it is far worse :/

9 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

not sure it was "a bit" sexist. more like "un fucking believably sexist"

9 years ago | Likes 36 Dislikes 1

All women are bad at X. Yeah kinda sexist lol

9 years ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 2

Rather sexist. Like saying "All men are bad at X"

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Nah, not the only one. The example, of course is bad, but the rant was rather biased I feel. Anyone with no familiarity with code, 1/2

9 years ago | Likes 48 Dislikes 2

gender aside, would likely have similar thoughts about the two. IMO, better documentation on that fast inverse square woulda been nice. 2/2

And thus spaghetti code is born

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Everyone has different ways of coding. Documentation is important if the code isn't solely for the person who wrote it

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

It's not - when someone comes along to figure out wtf is going on and why it isn't working it saves hours of time.

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Oh that makes sense. I was an idiot and paid the price

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

is analog phone lines.... 100% of all old office buildings have a room that looks like this or worse.

9 years ago | Likes 80 Dislikes 0

Are those even all cables? The really thin ones looks likes something's growing there

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I worked in an office that had one of these rooms. Getting connection from the ISP was a nightmare. The tech had a dead stare when he saw it

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah, with years of upgrades on top of old tech it can really get to looking nasty.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Not to mention every 911 center

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That's 100% what it looks like at our mall. I always hated waking by it when taking the trash out.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

"This is why women shouldn't code." No. more like: this is why people who have no idea about coding should have no say in what is better.>>

9 years ago | Likes 486 Dislikes 20

Women writing code is exactly how we got to the moon, literally. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Margaret_Hamilton_(scientist)

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah, that was a terrible idea to drop that in there. Ladies who code: please continue kicking ass and ignoring that nonsense.

9 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

The 'girl coder' really took an effort to make sure people understand her code too (even if it was wrong), which is very important.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

As a regular /g/ user, that tweet was found to be fake.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That was stupid and whomever wrote it should feel stupid

9 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

Yeah, that comment forced me to downvote the post. Entirely unfair.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

That code is specifically used to teach students things. It is for 13-18 year olds. That's why the second if is duplicating itself too.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Plus I have no idea what that first function is trying to do, mostly due to lack of commenting.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Would have enjoyed this dump if it wasn't for that shit. I work with some damn good women coders and my favourite CS professor was a woman.

9 years ago | Likes 33 Dislikes 3

I don't know why they introduced sexism in a debate that needed none. Statistically both were probably written by dudes anyway.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

I'm a guy and I think adding relevant comments makes debugging easier and other people know what I'm trying to do more easily.

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

Relevant comments are good. Things like "see you later!" are neither relevant nor good. Not sure the integer explanation is needed either.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I'm a woman and I code.. used to be for fun and now it's a career and shit like this is part of why there are not a ton of us

9 years ago | Likes 35 Dislikes 2

"Because fuck going to the moon in the first place, M I RITE?!?" https://www.wired.com/2015/10/margaret-hamilton-nasa-apollo/

9 years ago | Likes 31 Dislikes 5

This is why *that woman* shouldn't code. And judging from the general quality and nature of her posts, not do other techs things either.

9 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

Some of the most brilliant csci professors at the University of Minnesota are women. Comments like this are not only harmful but moronic too

9 years ago | Likes 55 Dislikes 4

I'd say simpleminded and sad, but it's about the same. Btw. nice username!

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

>>Seriously. Women can't code because they're worried more about looks than functionality? Generalizing much? And I'm a guy

9 years ago | Likes 253 Dislikes 13

My thoughts exactly

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

!generalize; bothSides = (bad programmers || programmers without good coding habits); if(!u_like)... 1>/dev/null 2>&1

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Well, you have to remember that the entire dump was brought to you by guys. Plus, I'm fairly certain that poster was trolling.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 8

And that statement is just as bad, sorry.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 3

Same, I have a friend who could code so much better than I. That was a wierd statement to see on imgur

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 2

Lol indeed. I actually assumed he must be trolling.

9 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 4

I'm not sure. The black&white mindset is scaringly real on imgur sometimes. And with people surrounded by binary logic especially

9 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 6

...as opposed to the black and white (and wholly ignorant and wrong) mindset used by the girl?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 3

No. As opposed to a mindset that allows grey areas in which guys are bad at coding and girls excelling at it and vice versa. Life's not>>

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

Right? I know a girl that really knows her way around Linux/unix infrastructures and programming, its amazig to see

9 years ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 5

Lol the best engineer at my company is a woman, hands down. That stuff on this post was truly cringe worthy though

9 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 2

Not one to preach about inequality but as a female in a STEM field this irritated me. If ya gonna make a jab at women at least make it funny

9 years ago | Likes 116 Dislikes 4

Yeeeah..I think this guy actually believes what he said, lol. Not a jab. Dude's just an asshole

9 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 4

I thought it was a jab at both. Ignoring what the code does, the female's code was overcommented with useless stuff, but the guy's wasn't1/2

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Commented at all. If I had to read one person's program, I'd take the woman's, because then I wouldn't have to parse everything myself.2/2

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah. It sounded too serious and unfunny to be meant as a jab IMO

9 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 2

Same. There's a serious lack of women coders. I don't think females should get special incentives but we should be seen as equally competent

9 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 2

Yeah, this wasn't pretending to be a joke, just flat sexism.

9 years ago | Likes 54 Dislikes 2
