I feel like thoae statistics are absolute bullshit

As someone who is lactose intolerant.. I don't care. I still eat cheese and drink milk. Worth it.
BootPogFuck
White people like cheese because it goes well with crackers
ohdearohdearohdeer
underrated comment
PyllyNalleMissionaries
Around here we have low-lactose and no-lactose milk products. Low-lact is made by adding enzymes that turn the lactose into sugars, (1/2)
PyllyNalleMissionaries
Where as no-lact is made by flash-heating the milk to 120C*+ to break the lactose and give it a shelf-life of multiple months
Tazlamaz
Do we really need it? Not really, but I mean, cheese.
bigHugeLargeBig
Yo whaddup with Greenland?
DankSatan
Natives of Greenland didn’t farm cattle (I don’t think) so wouldn’t ever need to be lactose tolerant.
TheCrazyVulcan
Chears to that ancient ancestor who said, "Screw you, mom, I don't want to ween and will just this cows teet instead!"

Most Asians cannot digest milk because they considered cattle farming barbaric, they never domesticated large mammals for milk, just labor.
Puffmax
As someone from the purple region and magically isn't lactose intolerant it's amazing living in a country with so many kinds of cheese.
ChloePrice
As a white person, I am deeply saddened so many people can't enjoy this delicious cheesy goodness.
sockerbeta
As another white person, haven't eaten for more than 2 years now. Would find it weird if I'd try it now, and a wee bit disgusted.
SarahTheRed
I could do a whole history lesson plan on this.
RisingSol
"Grandad, you can't tame the white supremacist power structure with cheese!" "Oh yes I can!"
Tarlon
So... Black people can't eat pizza?
OrionDax
The Japanese government mandated that students drink milk every day ~20 years ago. How does that work? Shouldn't they be unable to drink it?
ParanoidWithGoodCause
this is the sort of intolerance we should be fighting against!
Moreamusingthanmangoes
I prefer the term lactase deficient
lostandlonelyguy
It’s possible that European famine contributed to lactose persistence. source> https://www.uu.se/en/media/news/article/?id=3154&typ=artikel

Much of lactose intolerance is for cow milk. Many can’t eat cow milk but they can eat sheep or goat milk/cheese
tdammers
That's milk allergy, triggered by proteins. Lactose is a sugar, and found in milk from all mammals, including goats, sheep, etc.
flower8330
Nope. Lactose intolerance is not a milk allergy. And many with it can eat milk from other animals. Source: i cook for my LI husband daily

I’m white person and I can’t eat cheese
peepz
This gif: love seeing it...hella funny. My man tried and ole girl may have been disappointed, but she wasn’t bout to give him that freebie.
Mugetsu91
I'm not even white, but I can (and do) drink milk. I'm mestizo, mix of Spanish and Mayan, so, that comes from the Spanish side for me, lol.
PyllyNalleMissionaries
Heard of lactose-free milk products?
FeyreAcrheron
There are dozens of us!
JanaJustinsdottir
They make pills for that, you can buy them at your local store by the pepto

Same for me. In the middle of eating a pizza as I type. Fingers crossed that it won't be too bad this time.

The funny thing is the human body developed to deal with scarcity. On a near starvation diet you will look younger and live longer but 1/2
MissAizea
Yeah, which is why it annoys me when people flip out about me skipping meals or a few days of eating
squirrelfury
A meal here and there is fine, a few days? That's bed for you.
ElecTech
gorge yourself all the time and you would likely be dead by 40 from the effects of that alone. 2/2
MarcusRiedner
Most aged cheese is quite low in lactose. Anything aged longer than about 12 months is usually safe for all but the weakest intestines.
SamaelTheVenomOfGod
Unless you're like me an not lactose intolerant, but just straight up allergic to milk :(
Gaiashining
Absolutely. I can eat aged cheddar by the bucket but a teaspoon of milk has consequences out of all proportion to the amount consumed.
Izzdelp
Can't eat even the most well aged cheese. Ridiculous consequences. :(
Gaiashining
Life without cheese must be sad....condolences
TemetNosce000
Yup. That's why i stay away from sweeter cheeses (American) and go for older stuff or cheddar
MarcusRiedner
Not sure I would count "American" as cheese. Kraft singles are damned near a petroleum byproduct with all their additives.
TemetNosce000
I'm sure it's technically cheese for some reason
MarcusRiedner
In Canada we usually label it as a "cheese product" not as "cheese" because it is so heavily processed. \_ (:/) _/
LurlineLumpkin
Sadly, the more a cheese is aged, the worse for those who are migraine prone. :(

I'm migraine prone (I'd rate myself "mild"), and wine and nuts never seemed to trigger anything...Care to elaborate?

This map is incorrect ... yoghurt and milk is used through out in the Middle East and surrounding countries.
flower8330
Yogurt is fermented but fermentation does not mean the lactose is gone. It might be that they use goat and sheep milk instead
justherefortheshitposting
Yogurt is fermented. That's the point of the bacterial culture, to ferment lactose into lactic acid.
morgajel
I'm pretty sure yoghurt is fermented, which turns the lactose to lactic acid. That's why they have it.
Dannyxrain
I can see some troll posting “Lactose Intolerance = White privilege”

Unless one reads the above text carefully to find African populations with nearly 100% tolerance

Milk mustache = white male patriarchy
dan144
Oh man, I lost a football bet and had to post a video of myself chugging milk. Then I found out some idiots tried to make milk racist
BarretXIII
I thought it was a gag originated on 4chan. Trolls proposed that milk was racist, IDIOTS made it racist.
dan144
Yeah it was a 4chan joke, but more than zero people took it seriously so I had to put a disclaimer that was wasn't a Nazi on my video.

I do too. I'm also extremely allergic to it. (I only discovered this recently after the doctor told me to stop eating it or die.)

There doesn't seem to be any actual evidence to support European exceptionalism here. I'd assume the northerners were the same as the rest.
accordingtotheDM
That's to say that they developed a milk-culture based off of pastoralism like everyone else.

People farther to the north (Innuit for example) face stronger "nutritional pressures" but do not drink milk.

seal milk. Obviously. My point is just that it's a little dumb to assume there is an exception to a clear pattern just because Europe.
ChuckWeiss
"The romans were fascinated at the barbarians ability to drink fresh milk." They weren't exactly pastoral, so yes, they fit the pattern.
InFin0819
You can't domesticate seals. But I think we are all arguing the same side
