Asian Conan O'Brien

I thought for sure, that first frame on the first gif was Conan with black hair.

For any UK Systema fans, one of the two international Systema masters is over for a training conference in October next year. EXCITE.

Read 'savate' as 'salvate'...

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I read: savant

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Savate is french for "old shoe". Look at these glorious bastards https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/1/1c/Boxe-francaise.jpg

How the fuck do I learn this

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The secret of Kung Fu is in the name. Kung Fu translates directly as "Hard Work". And that's the secret to mastering any Martial Art.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Research what you might enjoy and find a local place. Stick to it. It doesn't happen overnight. I believe in you!

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Thanks stranger/fellow imgurian:)!!!!!!

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This doesn't mean shit to me until I see this guy actually fight rather than demonstrate strikes and throws.

10 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 6

Pretty much this. As a former fighter and coach, most of these guys are moving before the hits even come.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Savate look bad ass. Want to kick. Must learn kick good....

10 years ago | Likes 170 Dislikes 2

Savate is pretty sick..people end up with broken arms in higher end matches..

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

Savate is done using the special pointed boots and they use them to kick with the toes, a lot. Not the best idea barefooted.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

But, you'll probably be wearing shoes if you need it for self defense. Karate also has similar kicks bfoot where you raise the toes upwards.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My best friend does savate. It's pretty savage.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

All those kicks exist in most school of kungfu, tae kwondo, karate etc. most of his moves can be found in most kung fu schools too.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

But it's french, so they probably teach you to kick while baking delicate cookies and drinking lattes.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I think it was built around ship-based fighting (rigging & railings for handholds), which is why it's so leg-strike focused.

10 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Imagine Age of Sail sailors performing high-kicks during a boarding battle

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Savate was actually developed when for a period of time bare hands were classified as weapons.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I've heard that too. Something about legal precedent and open-handed strikes being considered altogether different, by law/ courts.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The most badass style of fighting is called Krav Maga, LOOK IT UP!

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 20

The wii u is the best gaming console ever.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

it's overrated. Look at Silat. Krav Maga on fast forward.

10 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 2

That or Filipino Martial Arts. Krav Maga's knife defense really only works against people who don't know how to use knives.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Pretty much. Krav Maga relies on the other person not knowing how to fight or defend. 75% is just crotch shots.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

You're better off learning muay Thai if you want to kick gooder than your oppenent.

10 years ago | Likes 44 Dislikes 2

idk I've seen some pretty good capoeira knockouts :P

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

There have been Savateurs kicking the SHIT out of Muay Thai fighters. Savate is fucking savage.

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 3

Savate is like Muay Thai. It's full contact and aimed to KO the opponent. It's only as good as the person using it but that means it can 1/2

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Does systema have anything to do with "systematic" movements?

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Not really. It's more a way of being. @PurplePixieUK is correct. Movements follow one another without tension.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It builds and works the entire mind/body emotional system from the inside out. Good movement is one of its 4 central 'pillars'

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

So similar to Bruce Lee's "Be like water"?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Breathe :)

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Breathing, movement, relaxation, structure :-) I'm going to a training seminar with Vladimir Vasiliev next year and I'm MASSIVELY excited!

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Amazing. Got a 4 day with Martin Wheeler in Feb!

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

10 years ago | Likes 91 Dislikes 1

It's because real badasses have had the shit kicked out of them so many times that it literally breaks your ego.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

anecdotal, but the two people I know who REALLY know how to fight(one muay thai, one TKD) are the nicest, chillest people ever.

10 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 1

One of my friends is an MMA fighter. One of the most genuinely sweet guys I know.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

(4) seconds. Just completely destroyed them and he felt terrible that he had to.

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

(3) hurt you all." They laughed" He said "really, I don't want to" then when they tried to grab him he knocked all 3 older kids within a few

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

(2) and these old kids came up and were basically going to take what little money they had and this guy goes "Guys I don't want to have to

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

My Dad had a friend growing up that was a multiple level(don't remember exactly) black belt in karate. One time him and my were walking home

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

What do they have to prove? I think that'd be why

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Plus in some places you can get sued for having martial arts experience even if you're defending yourself, if you hurt the other guy

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

JKD is not a martial art, it is a philosophy of martial arts, he's showing off Wing Chun, which was Bruce Lee's primary MA, he started JKD.

10 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 4

wing chun is awesome, though.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I get what you're saying, but this isn't a meaningful distinction, just pedantry.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It's traditional vs adaptation, that's the distinction.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Except that you can go to a school of JKD and learn JKD, which includes this philosophy. How is this a meaningful distinction?

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Unquestioned tradition, or evolution. Jkd is like water, as Lee would say, it is personal, it is not routed in a single tradition.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Take what is useful, discard what is not. That's the philosophy, every move is borrowed and adapted from another martial art.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

In the Tao of JKD it directly prohibits having schools, though describes them as inevitable. Like scams.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'd love to see him in the octagon !!!!

10 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

Probably get his ass kicked.

10 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

Real talk

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

He would, anyone who has trained MMA or has general martial art knowledge knows what he is doing is for show mostly and not practical. 1/2

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 5

Bruce Lee was the same, his speed was great but what he did would not work on people who trained legit martial arts who fought. 2/3

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 5

That is why he never competed in anything in his life, he was an actor with some flashy skills. 3/3

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 5

What? Source? Bruce Lee was a pioneer of mma, JKD is a mixed martial art and it is said that he took part in quite a few underground fights.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

Source is first hand experience, I have trained Jiu Jitsu, kickboxing and general MMA for over 5 years. It is joked about.. 1/2

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

fighting back especially someone who knows that they are doing then you will see a whole new look to what he is doing. 3/3

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Yes, this guy is flashy and I would not punch a helmet except as distraction/leverage, I believe Bruce Lee, did more than you think for mma

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

among actual fighters about martial arts like this. They look flashy and everything when the person is standing still but if someone is 2/3

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Ah yes popping and locking, right alongside twerking and whipping as the deadliest martial art forms of all time

10 years ago | Likes 27 Dislikes 2

You describe Capoeira

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

What if my opponent actually fights back?

10 years ago | Likes 43 Dislikes 5

>> Brazilian Ju-Jitsu

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

But what about the other two attackers?

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

They had a rough childhood, they just need hugs.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That's no judo, judo is about moving with your opponent and using their movement to bring them down. There's no hitting.

10 years ago | Likes 28 Dislikes 9

Well, he does practice multiple martial arts. Hi did hit the guy but that was still a legit judo throw.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Exactly

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

judo know nothing.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I think what you're saying is aikido.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 3

Ju and aiki are different but similar concepts. Ju is what happens when you quit dicking around and actually try to fight someone with it.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

To cut a long story short, Judo is a distilled form of a much broader martial art system and does incorporate strikes called atemi-waza.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Really still a archaic form, not really taught to anyone but the most senior (or supposed to be) Judokas.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That is irrelevant. Point is that Judo has strikes. Additionally, would you identify the art with what they teach newbies or seniors?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ahh yes, I see you know your judo well.

10 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 2

This is democracy manifest!

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

GET YOUR HANDS OF MY PENIS!

10 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

There are strikes in judo, they're just not allowed in competition

10 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 5

Isn't it that Ju-Jitsu, that Judo is based on, contains strikes, but judo, being the sport version, does not use them?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

As a judo guy, very VERY few places actually practice them.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Have to agree, I never seen hits in Judo before coming to the U.S.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I saw a judo book by a US "teacher" that had various punches and kicks, including a hilarious two-handed punch. Probably McGyver-inspired.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

No. Only strikes are to pose for strike-defense techniques and katas. Some idiots try to include strikes and kicks, but it's not judo.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

If it's in the kata, then that makes it Judo.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Kata requires you to eat, heart to beat etc, but they are not part of the kata. Judo's pair katas need moves outside form that are not judo.

I think that's Marie Rose's fighting style in DOA5

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Axaxax, have you actually practiced it ? I think not, otherwise your body at least would take it seriously

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It is, but it's also heavily modified.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yeah, something about clumsy and uncoordinated according to the wiki. Also, she doesn't even look like she's doing the stuff I saw on YTube

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It probably has something to do with the fact that people who are small in stature can do systema adequately. So that's what they chose.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I wish you were kidding. Systema is a con.

10 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 9

You do know it's just a general word meaning "system"? You could just as well call Judo or boxing a "systema".

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 6

Sure, but you and I both know what it actually means vis a vis "martial arts".

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 3

Yeah, but there's two uses. One is the hooy-systema and the other is just general word similar to "martial arts" for some odd slavic reason

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

True fighting russians do judo, sambo, wrestling or boxing. They don't call that shit systema.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

Weird that you are downvoted for that, you are entitled to your point of view.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Not saying there aren't any con-men teaching systema, but I doubt they are more prevalent than in any other martial art or contact sport.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

Then I would love to see you put a guy who practices that against the guy who practices boxing, wrestling, Jiu Jitsu. No contest.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Believe it or not some martial arts & combat sports have methods that are tested against other practitioners. If you're teaching systema 1/2

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 5

True, but even those tried and tested ones have frauds. Since there's no ultimate authority to say who can claim to be a teacher of style X.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I've seen a couple people using the systema title and their stuff were nothing alike. I'd say the title alone doesn't mean it's shit.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

How many practitioners of Systema are world champions?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

you're either a fraud or delusional. It's rotten at its very core

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 4

Explain.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

How in the FUCK does he move so fast in that last gif. It's like it was literally fast forwarded.

10 years ago | Likes 1818 Dislikes 3

I watched sauce. He's def. too fast for gifs. But he's still crazy fast. Like the video is pretty much just like the gifs.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

He is a superhero.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm pretty sure it is sped up. I just watched the video, and i'm pretty sure it was slower.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

yeeeeeeears of training and practice. Muscle memory and twitch training. Had a friend that trained kung jun mu sul since 6, he was insane

Google Carruthers

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Watch the video in the comment below. He is SO. FUCKING. FAST.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I think a part of it has to do with the frame rate of the camera. He is fast, and the camera just can't keep up, making him look even faster

10 years ago | Likes 110 Dislikes 5

60fps is underrated.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Fuck fast forwarded. I legit thought the last gif. was glitching.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_a6TCJZsvDo That's his youtube channel and sauce. (Dif vid tho)

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Don't know if he's too fast for gif or GIF is too slow for him

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Pretty sure that last one is sped up, at least slightly. That kick is just unbelievable.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 4

I

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

muscle memory, train enough and you can do 3-4 punches in a second, played any competitive sport that requires speed, seconds are slow

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm not suggesting anything about his speed one way or another, but these GIFs are very clearly moving faster than realtime.

10 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 9

the last one is faster the normal. the way the people move is a little off.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

They're not. Watch them a few times. Hes just fast

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Look at the guy in blue getting punched in the chest in the systema one. He's moving like he's in a Bister Keaton movie.

Haha indeed

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

im gona go with.. years of practice

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You can almost hear his voice getting squeaky when he does those moves.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

When you train movements for many years they become muscle memory. Basically just keep doing it over and over until you're fast as fuck.

10 years ago | Likes 35 Dislikes 0

That's why it's become dangerous for me to masturbate.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

You've had at least 4 more years of training. You must be stopped at all cost now

You made somebody in the future laugh.

No force behind it, like a bunch of light slaps, so it's quicker

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 10

why is this downvoted? it's true.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Because in a couple of them he does one movement with force & they ignore the others

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Aaaahhahahahhaahhahaa.. that's a good one.

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Bruce lee was so fast they had to slow scenes down, because people thought it was fake.

10 years ago | Likes 423 Dislikes 3

Yo mama was so fast she said beep beep

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

old camera's FR was low. now these camera's we can catch about anything. Yet our advanced camera's can barley catch this guys speed.

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Correction - some of these gifs suffer the exact same issue that bruce lee did. Their missing frames make him seem faster. Check out the vid

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Agreed.

10 years ago | Likes 126 Dislikes 1

Jet was so good in Romeo Must Die, he made it one of my favourite action movies. That last fight scene against the blonde dudes was killer.

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Also Danny the dog was one of my faves

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I think you mean Kiss of the Dragon. Not that Romeo Must Die was bad either.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Whoops, got them mixed up :D

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Wouldn't surprise me, that guy is fucking LEGIT. Wish he was in more movies these days

10 years ago | Likes 51 Dislikes 0

Yeah, problem is he's getting old

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I miss him in brainless action packed movies. A living legend.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I agree, but then again he's passed 50, so I completely understand why ^^ Have you seen the Ong-bak movies and the likes, though? insane

10 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

I always felt Ong-Bak was too obviously choreographed, but Tony Jaa is the shit.

While I am a Bruce Lee fan, I have to state that some of the framerates of older b&w cameras made him look faster than he was

Not to say that he wasn't insanely fast.

100% agree. The man was a martial and philosophical genius, but mostly a great performance artist

?? Films were already shooting at the standard 24fps back then, from what I read they either had to shoot at 32fps or he had to slow down.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

24fps existed but it cost more time/manpower than youd think to lug that giant equipment around -at that time- for things like demo footage

Enter the Dragon, in 1977. 32fps, however. The B/W demo reels and B/W TV spots had framerates all the way down to 16fps.

Problem with rapidly switching directions on a hit is you lose half the force. You have 2 hands. Use them both for the best effect.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And remember that the more momentum, the more force so if you slam them face first into the floor, it hurts a lot more than a punch.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It only takes a small fissure to shatter the dike.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

But that metaphor doesn't work. You aren't trying to break skin with your bare hands. You have to impart force. Little flicks are useless

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That little flick packs a hell of a punch, plus he is going for soft targets as you need nearly no force at all to break a knee, jaw or elbo

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

No it doesn't. To hit someone hard you have to drive it through them. It may hit hard for a trained fighter, but not for untrained ones.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

What I'm saying is that getting the little flick first thing sets up for anything else.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Its superfluous though. Instead of a flick hit, grab the other person and pull them into your elbow. Similar movements but far better

Really? I thought the first one was soooo good. Then they ruined it with more sequels and prequels

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

There trailer for IP Man 3 in Singapore right now... Was too hype to pay attention to the release date. *faceplam *

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

1/22/16 January 22, it isn't too far away.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

dude........ that's gonna be legendary. but is it based on his story, or is it a fictionalized adaptation?

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Who gives a damn it's. Mike fucking Tyson damn it

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 3

The last two were incresingly fictionalized. Yen actually wanted to call it there but other factors made him sign up for the third (1/2)

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yen thought (and I agree) that there had been too many films about Ip Man in too short a timespan, it was confusing and maybe not respectful

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

i read a bit about his history and felt that the movies felt in line with it. hollywood had to over-exaggerate some moves, of course
