As many of you know, it is quite snowy and cold in the Northeast US today. On my way back home from shoveling a driveway, I noticed this bag (along with two others like it) hanging from a fence along the road.

Apparently the person who made these bags did it in memory of their son. Each one contains a hat and a pair of gloves. If the family ever ends up seeing this, my condolences to you, and I want to thank you for making such a kind gesture to our small community.

Though I am fortunate enough to have a warm home, some people out there are not as lucky. Stay warm today, Imgur, and do something to help someone else.

FP edit:

Oh my, I did not expect such overwhelming response to this. I am glad I was able to brighten the days of some people by sharing this story.

Absolutely, pass a kindness on! What a heartwarming post! Kindness what a beautiful thing! ????

NO YOU ARE CRYING

If I'm homeless and cold I'm not likely to have a laptop and bump-n around on imgur, I'm huddled over a grate, cold. Nice thought though...

I love things like this, just reminded me to put together another drop off for goodwill. +1

I recommend donating to a women's or men's shelters, or a halfway house. Homeless shelters in particular need socks!

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Not goodwill. Try another local charity that directly helps out the homeless. Food banks, shelters, etc.

I live in New England. It's 4 F (-17C) & we have 12 inches of fresh snow. This is a wonderful thing for those in need who live here!!

Saw these types of things on Windows in my city. Made me hopeful

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Holy Toledo! Will you share some hot chocolate with me? Also, that was really nice of that fella's mom.

It was 70° and sunny for me today. Just another reason I'm glad I don't live up north

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

@op you seem familiar... either that or the house. anyways stay safe with this cold

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Hmm, interesting. Maybe you've met me before.

I just started carrying hand warmers on my walks with my dog so when I see someone I can give them out.

SOCKS are the most-needed and least-donated clothing item. Homeless folk need socks!!

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Hey, rest of the world here. If you could just stop bombing and invading everything else, it'd be really appreciated.

Holy fuck not only do you use my favorite hero, but it's so simple yet so true! We should do this no matter who is in office! 1/2

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

As this needs to be our default setting now more than ever, as we will need each other soon enough! 2/2

I was gonna make fun of the picture until i read the caption...what a nice thing to do.

It would be better if the gloves were lined with LSD and the back of the card said "buckle up, Brian sure didn't"

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

A very nice and selfless thing for them to do.

Y'know, whenever I get down about the trumpet, I see something like this, and begin to believe all is not lost, after all.

So, is there a recipe you used for that cocoa, @op? It looks delicious.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

1/2 cup sugar, 1/4 cup cocoa, dash of salt, 1/3 cup water and 4 cups milk warmed up in a pot. Topped w/ whipped cream and crushed up cookie!

It is presently 40C/104F at my house. I'm not running the A/C because it's a shitty split system anyway. Thanks for your concern anyway :P

Ooo lucky you, wherever you are, I am jealous!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm in the Sydney area. We're having a record heat wave. My car dash was telling me it was 51C/123.8F. You can have it.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Last pic would have been way better if you were wearing the gloves...

9 years ago | Likes 174 Dislikes 13

umm no, was left for those in need, he didn't need them so he would have ended up being a douche, not worth the joke don't you think??

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 3

I wonder what it's like to be flexible enough to shove your own head up your ass...

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 3

Maybe you need to view the community rules before replying to someones comment.

Wow, four months later and you're still delusional. WORDS ON THE INTERNET DON'T DO ANYTHING. GET THAT THROUGH YOUR HEAD.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

True, it would have added a touch. However, I didn't take the bag, I left it for someone who needs it more than I do.

9 years ago | Likes 178 Dislikes 0

Very nice...

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

This is what I was hoping for. Both that you would have enough to stay warm, and that it would be left in case someone was not as fortunate.

9 years ago | Likes 34 Dislikes 0

Very nice...

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 3

Could have taken them for the pic then replaced them with a new pair.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 15

Thanks for the jerkwad comment. It was just what I needed to help me stop crying!

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Why am I being downvoted? What's wrong with taking that exact pair and replacing them with a brand new pair?

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 3

If @OP didn't need them, he did the right thing by leaving them for someone who might need them to survive the harsh weather.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

i'm not crying you're crying

As a wise Buford once said, "I'm not crying, I'm sweating through my eyes!"

Let's not cry together! *hugs*

I'm so tired of seeing this point whoring comment everywhere. Try being original for once in your life.

Sounds like you need to move on

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 3

Seriously enaugh with this comment

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

pure irony, seeing how you're crying right now.

Do you live in Portland, ME? I've noticed the same thing downtown (hanging from trees & fences) but I didn't see the In Memory Of card...

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Nope, I'm not quite that far north!

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The ones in Portland are knit and dangling from little threads :)

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0
