When you get caught stealing welfare

You need to educate yourself more about disabilities

Not everyone in a wheelchair is paralyzed.

6 years ago | Likes 171 Dislikes 2

....the thought had never crossed my mind. Quite literally.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Wheelchairs are much much cheaper than mobility scooters. I’ve seen people take their wheelchair to get groceries, then lock it up and walk.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I had to scroll through the comments to get it. Some of you never worked in the health care industry and it shows.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

There has to be a better way!

Ray?

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Wheelchair does not mean paralyzed. Dude clearly has a bad back and can’t walk for prolonged time

6 years ago | Likes 94 Dislikes 3

Seriously you can see the brace.

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

It's much faster to move around in a wheelchair than with crutches, he could be standing on one leg because he broke the other one

I see you OP

That title hurts folks like my father who NEED a scooter (c-spine injury) but will not use b/c of asshats who think things like that.

6 years ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 2

Yep. I refused one for WAY too long. I did serious damage to my joints by pushing through because of how people act regarding it. 1/

About 2 months ago, I no longer had a choice but i could have saved my hips & knees if I had caved 2 yrs ago instead. 2/2

It's called a taco stand for a reason.

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I thought Taco Tuesday was on Friday.

A spicy salsa will get you going

As someone who's always in pain but looks like everything's fine, don't judge a book by its cover. You don't know their story.

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

If we had taco trucks on every corner, we wouldn't need universal healthcare.

Especially when made by Jesus.

Just because you can stand doesn't mean you can walk. Although some people in wheel chairs can even walk short distances!

6 years ago | Likes 837 Dislikes 6

Exactly. Like my wife. She can walk 100m a day. After the whell chair is needed

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I had a friend who could stand up but if he walked it was like a pole in his spine. Kind of a penguin waddle. Had to use the chair

6 years ago | Likes 34 Dislikes 0

True! But there is definitely misuse out there...and it’s centered around the moto-wheelchairs at Walmart, fat people and the chip aisle.

I'm super pregnant and can't walk for long periods without getting burning pains in my sciatic area, I always feel too judged to use a chair

6 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Same thing bothers me when people complain about parking spaces

My dad needs one for longer distances, but he can stand and walk. People sometimes get really weird about it when he stands up.

6 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I walked a quarter-mile with a broken spine. It wasn’t really smart, but I did it. I wont judge what might inspire another person to walk.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thank you! I was just about to comment something along those lines. Not everyone who uses wheelchairs os completely immobile.

6 years ago | Likes 163 Dislikes 1

Os

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

Yeah if you have a hip transplant you can probably walk a bit but after a while it starts hurting

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

This is true, but tacos still work miracles

6 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

Tacos still work miracles. ?

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That was my first thought. I use a chair & only for the past year. I can't walk at all but I can stand. My hips are dying. #osteonecrosis ?

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

My mom is this way right now. The hope is that she only has to use the mart cart after some PT

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I used to take care of a man that was in a wheelchair a lot, but we would still take walks, he just seizured a lot so it was dangerous.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I have a friend who can walk normally - for maybe 300 to 500 feet - then she gets wobbly and can't stand anymore.People hassle her.

6 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 0

This is me too. I cant walk more than 400 feet without excruciating pain and then getting unsteady.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah people can be super judgey. Assuming to know everything about you and your problems at a single glance.

6 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Had a friend who got a severe inner-ear infection and needed a wheelchair. He could support himself fine but no balance at all.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's a joke. On the internet.

6 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 15

Which is based on or is assuming a stereotype, which is pointed out.

6 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

Does this make the joke any less funny? No.

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 15

To me it makes it not a joke but rather ignorance.

6 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

Of course not. But his wheel chair also deserves a taco. :D It is a joke. I just wanted to get that in before someone said he was faking.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I read a lot of r/entitled parents. A lot of people assume because you can walk, or you "look" ok, that you don't need a chair.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

This! Not all people in wheelchairs are necessarily completely confined to them—and some people even only use them part-time b/c they (1/3)

6 years ago | Likes 74 Dislikes 0

have conditions that affect the body in waves. I had a chair even before breaking my legs in case my hips, knees, or ankles dislocated (2/3)

6 years ago | Likes 49 Dislikes 0

or for going long distances, because of degenerative bones. Doesn't mean I wasn't going to try & stand or walk at every chance I got. (3/3)

6 years ago | Likes 46 Dislikes 0

My friend has a similar issue. Any tips on helping her transition into a wheelchair? She’s been fighting the concept for probably 5 years.

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Oh my gosh, first of all: you are such an awesome friend! <3 Transitioning into a wheelchair is definitely a huge impact on one's life, (1)

THANK. YOU. My mom uses a chair sometimes if we go shopping (she has MS)- and she gets looks even when she TRIES to walk and can't

6 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

it's obvious that she needs the chair when she tries to walk, but people still give looks.

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

back when she could walk better I remember a cop stopping her after parking in a handicap space- even though she had a placard.

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I was recently diagnosed with MS. I can still walk thankfully. But i've already started losing fine motor skills. And Muscle weakness is bad

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

And i'm on all kinds of crap, interferon-B and imuran, baclofen, chlorzoxazone. So soon, that'll be me. Already i don't like going shopping.

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

my mom was dx over 30 years ago. She uses a walker at home and if she doesn't have to go far and really that only started in the last -

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

7 years or so. She was using a cane before that. I hope it works out for you, they've made great strides and I know she found a lot of
