Life lesson put to the test

Apr 1, 2018 7:25 PM

So I broke down on a motorway. Stopped and out the car immediately. Within 30 seconds Mr lorry played "bite the pillow I'm going in dry". Thankfully no one was hurt! Lesson for all kids. Don't fuck about on the motorways. Get out quick at keep clear!

Ups!

Also, I'm curious as to who picks up the bill. Seems the motorway management at fault. UPS should probably sue.

Truck driver be like: ups

Will kindly ignore those recommending to stay in vehicle, over barrier and up embankment every time. Active or no.

Now you know why your amazon package didn’t deliver on time

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Glad you're alright. Gets crazy out on the roads when people don't pay attention. Most of them on their damn phones

8 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 1

I mean it could've been the truck driver couldn't stop in time due to its speed. But hey I'm no expert on trucks

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yup. Any time I see a fast driver slow down seemingly arbitrarily, I just know they're on their phone. ALWAYS BUSINESSMEN TOO AUGH

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I don't think the hard shoulder should have been made into a lane.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Damn.. glad you are ok! I had an accident last August.. wasnt so lucky to get out of it unharmed. But its looking a lot better now for me.

even without a driver, BMW cannot do what it is supposed to do....

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That'll buff right out.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

People are really fucktards on the highway.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Car held up surprisingly well.

BMW’s are pretty stout

Indeed

BMW is known for keeping occupants alive. That's why my wife drives an E53. Tough rig with reliable components.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

What motorway was it? Also was it one of the so called “smart” motorways?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It is, you can tell by the signs on the gantry having one over the hard shoulder instead of just the running lanes.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

That's because you drove on the bad side of the road

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

BMW 3 Touring is a f*** beast. Love that car.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah me too! Well loved

I hope my parcel wasn't in that truck!

Judging by the license plate, I don't think it was on its way to Cut Bank...

You Brits have a problem with HGV's. Terrible roads, too much traffic on them, and different speed limits for trucks and cars...THIS!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Omg no. That is terrible advice. Stay in your car UNLESS you are stopped in an active lane and can safely get off the road

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 5

According to OP, it was an active lane. A hard shoulder being used for heavy traffic, regulated by overhead signs

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

No, that is good advice. Staying in the car leads to death very often. You have no idea how common this man's story is, and dead don't talk.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You can either stay in the car with the belt on(which wouldn't have been fun but you would have lived) or get *way the fuck* away. Many/

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

people stand next to their car. If you are out of the car get like 30 meters away from it, go up the bank, go all the way away from it.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Just for reference - the normal advice for stopping on a motorway is ... DO NOT GET OUT! You're far more likely to die as a pedestrian 1/

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

than as someone sat in a car on the hard shoulder. 2/2

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

In the UK, the advice is the opposite. Get out of the car ASAP and go up the embankment/off the road. Average time between stopping and 1/

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

getting hit by something is <60 seconds. That's not a guarantee you'll be hit, but if you are, it's *very* soon. 2/

I am convinced that I am going to die on an American highway. A 75 mile one way commute, most of it on I-70, will open your eyes real quick.

Especially during ski season

Rains, snow, sleet, sun, beautiful weather, it doesn't matter. USA highways are deathtraps.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I looked it up. We're good. India and China are WAY more dangerous. hell, Brazil, Thailand, Vietnam and Indonesia are vehicular nightmares.
