I've modified my retro gaming setup to address the shortcomings of my old approach.

This new setup has a much taller TV stand, three 20" 20L2MD PVMs, many more consoles hooked up, and fully automatic switching throughout.

The monitors are wired to mirror one another on each of the available inputs (RGB & AV). This allows each player / spectator to have their own screen directly in front of them. It also allows for three-player GameCube LAN and GBA multiplayer (via the Game Boy Player attachment).

The Nintendo section. The middle GameCube still needs a LAN adapter, but they are fully wired for GBA multiplayer, with each GameCube displaying to a corresponding screen above.

The Sega / PlayStation section. The Saturn is region modded.

The miscellaneous section, representing the TurboGrafx-16 and some of the less successful consoles.

To the left of the monitors is a couple switchs: a gscartsw_lite for automatic RGB SCART switching, and an RCA switch for swapping between audio sources (from either SCART switch or AV switch).

To the right of the monitors is an automatic AV switch for consoles that don't output RGB.

Here's a few shots of the setup in action. Switching between consoles is as simple as turning one off and turning the other on (and changing input / audio source if going between RGB and AV).

Dig the TVs used for 16bit and earlier games.

No Retrotastic PC?

I had no idea you could do GBA multiplayer with the Gamecube players. That's super neat!

Upvote for having a Dreamcast... "The system that was not ready for society

I loved Dreamcast. It's one of the great tragedies that it didn't catch on.

is there any automatization when changing games?

This belongs in a museum!

In the Misc section, I recognize the Turbographix, 3DO, and Jaguar. The bottom console is a Philips CD-I? Came with an iPod-like controller?

Pvms? Now let's see it with some bvms for true overkill, preferably with original price tags.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Paid only £160 for my PVM (14L4) yet near £900 for my BVM (D20F1E). Shit gets expensive real quick.

+1 For cool setup and cable management.

There's quite a bit of cable management in the back. Here's a picture from while I was setting it up:

I need to hire you to do our home entertainment center. We've got Coleco up thru PS4 and like 16 consoles vying for the 1 tv.

making me upset by this setup

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So do the TVs magnify part of the console screen? Like N64 MarioKart so that each player only sees his own player?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I don't think they do. They're professional production televisions used in studios, the advantage is they can take an RGB signal.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Unfortunately, that's not possible. Each player just gets their own dedicated monitor, so everyone sits front and center.

...I am irrationally irritated that there are three separate GameCubes for three players rather than using the additional controller ports.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That's just for LAN (Mario Kart Double Dash, Kirby's Air Ride) and GBA multiplayer (Kirby's Amazing Mirror, Zelda Four Swords, Pokemon, etc)

Where did you get that Terranigma version from? Afaik it never had an US release.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

There's a SD-Card drive connected to the SNES. It'll play just about any ROM as if it were a legit cart.

Look at the tape that is inserted in the snes on the Terranigma pic. It kinda looks a bit like an US version of it.

The N64 and Dreamcast being considered “retro” makes me sad ☹️

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I mean the N64 is over twenty years old now. Even the Wii is beginning to get the term 'retro' added to it's name.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I’m not denying it’s retro now. But I still remember unwrapping it Christmas morning as a child. Really makes you feel your age.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Same thing for me yet it was a PS1 instead. I've still got my old consoles hooked up though as I don't have the heart to box/sell them.
