Kay Rose, who spent over a YEAR in a cage at the GHHS, is settling into her forever home in Colorado. Listen to the purrs!!

Her mama has high hopes that she’ll be able to harness-train KK and let her explore all the trails in CO!

She’s already acting like she owns the place.

Turns out she’s also kind of a water kitty!

She’s SO comfortable after only three days and neither Spencer nor I anticipated this!

She may actually be a closet adventure cat! She’s obsessed with staring out the window. Do you wanna get out there and explore, baby girl??

She LOVES her mama. Like…SO much.

No one could have anticipated how well she is doing. Spencer just keeps saying that this is NOT the same cat that spent a year in a cage. It’s all thanks to her forever mama @TrustInButtsMcGee for adopting her, and @AlabamaAnimalRescuer (Spencer) for flying her to her forever home!! I am beside myself with happiness!!

(Edit: our one and only Spencer just posted about this whole adventure: https://imgur.com/gallery/story-of-kk-aka-kay-rose-GN5Wy8a

Check this out for more details of Kay Rose finding her forever home!)

Look at those eye-blink kisses! She's SO happy to have a forever home - she's settled in and knows she's safe and secure.

Reminds me of my first cat, an absolute pure baby. You could hear her purring from the next room.

Idk looks like she is a house cat now

#7 I know an ugly shoe when I see one! Sorry about your foot, KK's mom!

I’m sorry you, too, have familiarity with The Shoe™️. Fortunately it’s probably just a stress fracture and The Shoe™️ is because I’m bad at resting it. 😛 KK has been helping because if she’s sleeping nearby, I won’t move. The baby must not be disturbed.

I am entirely wayyy too emotionally invested in Kay Rose now. Please keep posting!! She seems very adaptable and I am sure she will take to harnessing. Let her wear one around the house for a few days first and see how that goes. Please kiss her beautiful little forehead for me!

Kisses have been bestowed in your honor!

#6 hey, if I spent a year in a cage with limited views, I'd be thrilled with a new "outdoors" as well :) and it's *fantastic* how well she's settling in!

This is little Eliza. She is our spicy cat even though she only weighs 7lbs. She is the middle child between her 2 brothers.

Meanwhile I am a complete monster with one of my rescue kitties. She and I were sleeping, I roll over and feel her get pushed off the bed. The surprise mrrr as she fell to the ground sounded like the scream of someone falling to their death in a movie. She didn't get hurt, and she decided to move to sleeping on a pillow next to me last night.

Oh, lovely choice for a food bowl - tilted so she's not always pushing food away from her, nice and wide so there's no whisker fatigue - very nice choice, @TrustInButtsMcGee ! (Nice water fountain too - you've made some good choices!)

That’s what I said!!

Thank you! I figured if she is one to be overstimulated, she needs the kind of things that are sensory friendly and ergonomic. ❤️ I, too, get easily overstimulated and am of an age where I need proper ergonomics so I’ve done as much as I can to this home to align with that and want the same for KK. 🙂

They just know when they are home. And they know that you have rescued them. My rescue boy sniffed around the house for 30 minutes and then settled down next to me on the sofa. He was home. That was over 5 years ago and he has shown his love and gratitude every day since then.

OMG, she is already feeling so safe and happy. What a sweet little bebby and sweet human. I love the little song to her, I sang to both of my bebbies as they came home to me as well, I think it calms them. Those purrrrrrs., that happy posture. :)

I think you’re right! I was so surprised at how relaxed she got. I’ll have to come up with more songs for her. I also tell her what I’m doing or explain what some random sound is when she looks cautiously curious or is on higher alert. Explaining it to her seems to alleviate any mixed feelings about new things. ❤️

Also came here to say how much I love your song, it's so awesome to see KK so happy so fast :3

They like to be spoken to, even if they don't understand the words. I think someone would have to be a psycho not to have whole conversations with their fur babies. I am glad she is with you, she seems like an absolute little love.

That is so great to see! That Year in a Cage, BAMPF! Gone! She is now allowed to be the lovely snuggle bunny purr factory she had inside her all along! @TrustInButtsMcGee We love you so much! We understand that you are shy, and we, well I, am a lot. But please post updates often. We would love to see you and this girl go out on walks.

Thanks @spittytrinkles! I’ll definitely share KK with y’all as she hits milestones and discovers more. She’s full of fun surprises. 🥰 I am shocked at how quickly she is settling in. I anticipated a much longer journey. I feel very fortunate! I love her so much. ❤️

Fun fact: She trills to me when she wakes up. 😭❤️😭❤️ I love this girl so much.

Trilling??? Too freaking cute 🥰

So I already don't remember much about her background except that she's been in the shelter a long time and has tummy issues... is that a TNR clipped ear? was she rescued as a TNR?

1 month ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Yes, she got the TNR clipped ear. And yes, she had been at the humane society for over a year. Kept getting overlooked for all the little kittens available for adoption, as she was a little older and requires special food and has tummy issues. But she is in the BEST possible hands now with her forever mama 😊

1 month ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

What is a TNR? and is that why I see so many cats with clipped ears? I swear I was wondering what happens in the wild that caused so many ear injuries lol

1 month ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Trap, neuter, release. It's how a lot of cat colonies are managed—ears are clipped to indicate the kitty has been fixed so they don't have to trap again. My girl has a shortened ear and a tattoo to show for her street life.

Trap Neuter Release
It is a form of population control. By releasing the neutered cats back into the mating pool, the birth rate is reduced.

Trap, neuter, release

and is it SOP to clip the left ear?

1 month ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Yeah, so people can track which cats have been TNR'd. If they see a bunch of cats with clipped ears, they dont need to trap them
