Recognizing that no one will ever live up to the legendary Robin Williams, I've made peace with the fact that Will Smith's genie is what it is. But Jafar? No. Just no.

I don't like seeing the Rock in every movie 14 times a year but even he would have made a better genie

On the plus side of things, everyones expectations are going to be SO low people might just like it if its decent.

I watched the trailer in German first & thought they fucked up the voice, then I heard the original & realized that's where they fucked up.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Beauty and the Beast did it for me. Not watching any more liveaction remakes. "if it's not baroque, don't fix it"

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

That dude is too young/pretty to be Jafar. He needs to be older and have a sense of gravitas.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm not interested either way. I just can't fathom paying money to see the exact same movie only with "updates" (read: tinkering)

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Needs some Jeremy Irons sounding dude.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Why is Jafar even un the first place he was disguised as a old man to Aladdin to get him I to the cave of wonders. Dafuq are they doing

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Isn't he supposed to be in disguise as an old feeble man at the point that they showed? That would explain why he sounds like he does.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Even the feeble old man disguise sounded more unsettling than this version.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Jafar is hotter than Aladdin, also a problem.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Right?! I saw that and I was like, "Isnt Jafar supposed to be like an older guy? Not some kid?" Im in my 20's and I feel older than him.

7 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

The sultan even says "marry?! But, you're so...old..."

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Sorry, I can't find anything positive about what they're doing. They're better off just leaving the classics alone.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Especially this one. Robin's genie has become an archetype. No one will escape the comparison. Like redoing Terminator with Stallone.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I agree. As always; just because you can doesn't mean you should. If this is the best they can think of, they've hit a new low imo

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

We haven't heard Iago yet...

7 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

And we probably won’t hear him at all. No confirmed voice actor and the movie is months away.

7 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

There is only one acceptable voice actor for Iago.

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Am I the only one upset that Jafar should have been in his old man disguise for this scene?

7 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

Maybe he is in his young man disguise?

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I've genuinely been wondering this.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm bothered by both

7 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 1

I'm bothered the Genie sounds like Will Smith.

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Genie? I thought it was Will Smith playing Will Smith

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's a shame that a lot of actors don't act with their voice while on screen. It literally just feels like a blue Will Smith

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I thought the same thing. He sounds younger than Aladdin. Not really looking forward to this shit show.

7 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

Artist: Raf Grassetti: https://imgur.com/7AVNdL1

7 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 1

That looks so much better! Too bad it was apparently too much effort or Will Smith had to look like Will Smith?

7 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

You mean 'that looks so much more like the Genie from the animated movie'.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yup, that's what I mean. They are remaking the same shit with actors that look the same as the rest of the characters too, no?

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'd put money on the latter. In the trailer they show him without the blue-treatment, so they probably don't wanna edit him then.

7 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Shows how much they value any aspect of his actual style, charm and personality over the diversity value

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Bwing me da wamp Awadan.

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I still think they should have asked Steve Martin to be the genie if they would ask anyone. Comedian from the 80s, movie star, raunchy?

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

This would be live action. I think Robin Williams was iconic as him.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I feel like the best fit would be someone like Eddie Murphy. Someone who can run their mouth well and command attention.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Like Steve Martin.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Haha yep! Or maybe someone like Jack Black.

Atleast it’s not the rock....

7 years ago | Likes 66 Dislikes 5

Well, it is the rock. With blue Will Smith head.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

That...that actualky would be pretty cool.

7 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 2

IDK, the rock was good as Maui, and his build it closer to what the genies build was in the original movie. I think he would have done well.

7 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I think the Rock would've made a good Genie, personally.

7 years ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 0

He’d be good, but he’s in too many remakes...

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

It's directed by Guy Richie so I'm definitely going to give it a chance.

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Exactly! I mean, look at how good King Arthur turned out!.. oh wait

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

But I liked that movie. :(

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I liked Van Helsing but that doesn't mean it's not one of the dumbest, cheesiest films in existence

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Maybe to other people but not to me. I like what I like.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm trying to illustrate there's a difference between liking something and something being good

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Im saying "Why did we need a live action remake?". And dont just say "Money" because the obvious rebuttal is to rerelease the original.

7 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 6

Because everyone knows animation is disposable tripe and only live-action movies can be taken seriously. /ObviousSarcasm

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

The reverse from what Ive seen is definitely more true, yeah.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Same reason they keep making fantastic four movies, otherwise they lose the copyright.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Honestly: I love the remakes. They are wonderful movies so far. Lots of people want them. I know lots of people don’t, including you 1/

7 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 8

Apparently, but lots of people do as well. 2/2

7 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 6

Is your last name Trump by any chance?

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 3

Was thinking the same thing! That grasp of the English language was identical.

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

I’m very sorry, honestly it is just hard to fit within imgur’s standards, so sometimes my writing turns into bullet points on here.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 3

IKR. Every Trump post I see people writing like that out of mockery. xD

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

We didn't "need" it, but the critical and commercial successes of the ones that came before it have made it clear that these remakes are 1/2

7 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

wanted and well-received by a sizable audience that includes professional critics. 2/2

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Could you name a few live action remakes that didnt suck as I heard about Avatar and cant think of another.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

We're talking about specifically the Disney ones right now, and almost every single one has positive reviews. Only a few have great ones 1/2

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

like "The Jungle Book", but all of the recent ones consistently hit ~80% approval from critics and audiences. 2/2

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Robin Williams would probably support Will Smith in playing Genie if he were still around. Go into it not expecting him to live up to that.

7 years ago | Likes 49 Dislikes 8

I don't think he'd care, but that doesn't make it any more watchable... unless you like seeing Will Smith as Will Smith

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Well, that's what this post is saying, however, Jafar should be better. No evil, no desire in his voice just bleh.

7 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 1

Agreed, and he'd 100% be talking trash about the current look but would love it so much. "Have you seen this blue Smurf lookin' fucker?"

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Will Smith don't got to cuss to sell records

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

If people go into it just wanting to be entertained, I don’t think Will Smith will let them down, but to live up to Robin Williams? Nah.

7 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 2

It’s opinions like this that would have had ppl enjoying the latest ghostbusters ... and we simply can’t have any of that!

7 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 5

Except it was total shit. It could never stand on its own....or as a sequel...or as anything really.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I went into it thinking it would be fine if they just did a new story with new characters who happen to be women. Overall, it was about 6/10

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Except that movie was kind of bad and the all female cast was just “dude with boob” casting.

7 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 3

I've seen that movie twice. I just don't understand why it was made.

Just read this in the little old lady's voice from Poltergeist

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

7 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 0

But remember that he is in disguise as the highpitched cackling old man in that sequence?

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And isn't he still supposed to be the old man from prison at that point? Tricking Aladdin? Missing basic details, I'm not hopeful.

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Oh god he sounds so bored

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I think he sounds more like this guy in Mighty Bush : https://youtu.be/BTVe9sGKloA

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

There is a chance that he is relaxed and playing the good guy in that scene . He played the good guy in the start. ( i hope )

Gave me a good laugh, then I wondered, why is a djinn calling on Jesus?

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Because in Islam, Jesus is still a prophet.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yeah? And how often do you call upon Islamic prophets?

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

The perfect jafar exists and his name is Ben Kingsley

7 years ago | Likes 81 Dislikes 1

For sure actually he can play every mean arab man on earth

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Agreed, Jafar is basically Nizam from Prince of Persia.

7 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Nazeem? You may have seen him if you ever got to the Cloud District. Oh, what am I saying, of course you haven't.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Rodrigo Santoro, just tell him to play Jafar the same way he played Xerxes in 300.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Lmao

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yessss

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That's EXACTLY what I said when I first saw the trailer. Either him or Idris Elba

7 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 1

they casted Naveen Andrews as Jafar in the Once Upon a Time show. it worked pretty well.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The perfect Jafar would be Donald Trump, hed be the best Jafar, better than others, others would be bad, but I wo... he would be best Jafar!

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ben Kingsley should have been the geni IMO

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

No he was the perfect man for jafar. He looks a lot like the original

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes!

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Wrong. Snoop dogg man

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Unfortunately, we have to cast actors based on their ethnicity and not their ability to act.

7 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 6

I'm pretty sure he became an honorary brown person after Gandhi.

7 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

What if you had a bunch of equally good actors, how would you choose? O

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

He's only half English, his real name is Krishna Bhanji

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I did not know that. By all means, then, he should have been Jafar. Of course, I already thought he should have been Jafar...

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The 0.8s of Jasmine was alright though.

7 years ago | Likes 75 Dislikes 2

Fuck yeah, she's FINE.

7 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

What does 0.8s mean? I imagine boobies somehow but don't get it.

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 9

She was on screen for eight tenths of a second.

7 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I felt so insightful thinking this was slang for 8008s.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Glad I wasn't the only one.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

0.8 seconds. We barely got to see Jasmine but what we saw of her was quite good.

7 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

That makes sense. Silly me!

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

O,8 seconds of viewtime ya dingus

7 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 4

0.8 seconds, a comma is not a decimal ya dingus

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 4

It is in Europe

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 3

That makes no sense to me, commas separate different things, a decimal is part of the same number. If you say 2.3 as 2 and 3 tenths 1/2

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

I love being called a dingus. Made me smile

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I’m mostly excited about the magic carpet.

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I was more excited about Iago. Shame he isn’t gottfreid

7 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

They could have at least got Kenneth Branagh to play him. As I recall he's played Iago before.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Talking parrots is apparently too unrealistic... for a movie with magic talking caves, sorcerers, & genies

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Maybe the parrot gets to play itself?

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Don’t forget a Magic Carpet! It was standing next to Aladdin during the genie part.
