This video shot in 1905 shows Despina Manaki, who was said to be born in 1791. This likely makes her the earliest born human to ever be recorded on video.

This is a clip from a 60 second long video, called 'The Weavers'. It was made by her grandsons, the Manaki Brothers, who themselves were pioneers in early cinema and theatre. They claim that Grandma Despina was a 114 at the time of filming, a claim that has remained unchallenged.

I'm Greek and I can assure you, if there is one group of people ewho can reach 100 years with ease, it's people from Crete, like D. Manaki

They had composite 24 frame pull down in 480i then? I thought everything was shot with film.

Where have all the pixels gone?

Earliest born human ever recorded on video??? Doesn't Otzi have that honour, albeit posthumous?

*Film.

"Unchallenged?" Burden of proof lies on the one making the claim. It doesn't need to be "challenged", it needs to be proven.

of the mother and the youngest son. Seems unlikely.

Lifespan claims from that era are sketchy at best.

She was Greek. From Crete.

Someone who is 114 isn't going to be that mobile.

Film was shot in 1905... It wasn't captured on video until it was telecined

Kind of a weird thing to draw a line in the sand about, but you do you.

Y'all got any more of them "pixels?"

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Video? You mean film don't you?

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

There’s a difference between “video” and “film.” This would not have been video. We also had movies well before 1905.

She may be the earliest born person on film; just clarifying she wasn’t the first person at all to be filmed.

From the thumbnail I thought it was Betty White.

Is it not?

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Your almost right. Betty White was this lady's nanny though growing up

Well, it could be Betty White. No one truly knows how old she is.

Wasnt until 1923 when Jeremy sound discovered there was more senses to the human body. Incredible.

Her grandsons were born in 1878 and 1882 respectively. She was born in Ottoman occupied Greece. Not a chance of confirming her birth date.

What do you mean respectively?

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Each grandson

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

As she was a woman we can only find records of her brothers and sons. Propably on some Janissarie or property documents

6 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

Maybe they’re her great grandsons because she would be 87 when they were born.

6 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

With that age difference she would have been called grandma even if she was just an older female relative

Big Mama got that sugar.

True

I challenge the claim

If society has thought us anything in the last 20 years, it’s you’re not allowed to challenge a woman’s claim without yourself being sexist.

Well any video of a mummy trumps the " earliest born human to ever be recorded on video" ... they forgot the "living at the time" part.

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

You cant just challenge something like that

6 years ago | Likes 28 Dislikes 1

I challenge your claim!

6 years ago | Likes 34 Dislikes 0

You cant just challenge someones non-challenge of a challenge like that...

It's weird that it feels good.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geert_Adriaans_Boomgaard No one near 114 showed up until around the 1980's. I doubt it.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

*1890s

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

No, 1980's. The difference between 110 and 114 is astonishing, since at that age you have essentially a 1/2 chance of death per year.
