My orange Maine Coon does the "surprise I'm three and a half feet long" stretch like that.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I love that there's a cat named for my state lol I love these kitties they are so long and cute

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That's a Maine Coon.

2 years ago | Likes 189 Dislikes 2

No, it's a side coon

2 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

Maybe it's a long coon?

2 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

If you want upvotes and a ton comments, ask a question about a cat, preferably with an obvious answer. One million cat owners will be itching to write.

Love me some pink toe beans

FLUFFY!

Breed the two of them, it shall be the biggest and most majestic of floofs.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The ears scream coon, but something about the face says forest cat

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

She's turned completely blue from the cold; you better bring her inside! /s

Having occasionally dipped into the respective subreddits dedicated to these cat breeds, they will instantly tell you that unless you got the cat from a breeder with papers, it is neither. They will then proceed to berate you for "diluting the content" of the sub with cats that aren't MC or NFC. Lovely folks!

2 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

They take eugenics more serious than the nazis ever did

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

I would just get all high and mighty. Oh so you bought your cat? Mine walked out of its cage on to my shoulder and rubbed it's face on mine the first time we met. You had to buy yours, I was chosen. Until you are chosen by a NFC or MC you don't count sorry

Coon. Ears are a dead giveaway.

2 years ago | Likes 453 Dislikes 5

Yep. Forest cat ears don't have the tuft on the tips, but they have a bit more hair in the ears, like this (He's not pure forest cat, but has the ears):

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's a Cat. The cat is a dead giveaway /s

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Snout. Forest cats have a more triangular snout and main coons have that distinctive big, Ron Perlmon snout. Main coons also have a large fluffy ruff where forest cats are dense pom poms. Both lovely cats

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And not fully grown yet.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

False. I'd never give those ears away dead or alive!

Look at Mr. Fancypants over here with his necklace of cat ears.

2 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 1

What was that word again?

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Verandah ape, or something...

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

That lion face is the Maine Coon copyright. Norwegian Forest Cats have a normal cat face but with a super luxurious fur:

2 years ago | Likes 176 Dislikes 1

I can't afford that cat. It'll probably avoid me in public.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I had a Norwegian Forest Cat when I was little, she was the most lovely cat I have ever met, and super smart.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

My family fostered a Norwegian Forest Cat, named him Slinky, because he was so shy he'd slink away when he saw us. I remember one time I was petting him and he was purring up a storm and then he opened his eyes and saw it was me and then promptly ran away. I guess he thought it was a disembodied hand petting him.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

More like Ron Perlman face

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I love that both breeds are natural. Like, some cats were cold enough to decide to get huge and fluffy.

2 years ago | Likes 44 Dislikes 3

Well “natural” sorta. If I remember right they think that fancy ladies had fancy cats with long hair and they escaped into the wild, and that trait was SUPER helpful so it became very dominant. I have one. I love my big boy.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I was going to refute that for the Maine Coon, only to learn that stories about Captain Coon's Cassanova Cat are probably myths - or at least not the actual/primary origin. And despite the similarities to the Turkish Angora (1/2 coons are practically identical) are apparently far more genetically similar to British cats.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And it's very possible that the similarities come through Norwegian forest cats, possibly brought by immigrants from Scandinavia

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Or more like the ones who couldn’t handle the cold temps died because it was too cold and the fluffier ones survived.

2 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Well you just had to say the same thing but more depressing. So thanks for that....

Science isn’t always sunshine and butterflies sadly.

2 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 2

Doesn't mean it has to be brought up all the time.
