YEET!! The noise I make when people tickle my feet

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

When someone asks me to explain the difference between "thee" and "thou," I decline.

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Similarly “who” is used when referring to the subject of the sentence, and “whom” when it’s the object.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

then at some point someone said "why say many word, when few word do trick"

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's fairly simple: Thou! Thou hast! Thou hast mich! Thou hast mich gefragt!

So the band should be renamed to "Thine Art is Murder"?

All thou needeth jesus

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Mind the verb form: "thou needest", "he needeth".

Scratching could not make it worse an 'twere such a face as yours were. One of my favourites.

Back when english was way cooler ie. more like low saxon and dutch.

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

As a non-native speaker, thanks for dropping that. It was bad enough in german.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

My favorite example: "Steppith up bitch, thou doeth not want these hands"

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

“Steppest up, bitch, thou dost not want these hands.”

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Side note: thou was an informal second person singular, you was also in use at the time, as a formal second person singular, compareable to

Tu and vous in French

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Go brush up your verb conjugation: It's "Thou askest", 2nd person. "Asketh" is 3rd person ("he asketh").

6 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

Thank you! This post got the first line wrong!

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

But the first image is wrong. The -eth Vern ending is 3rd per. sing. Thou goes with -st as in “thou hast failed” or “thou askeST.”

The first picture looks like a Victorian @MrSavage.

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

#4 is wrong, it's based on the leading sound of the following word, not the actual letter (try putting a word like hour, starts with a 1/2

6 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

Vowel and consonant are the names of the sounds. Hour starts with a vowel even if we would incorrectly say the first letter h is a consonant

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Consonant, but the leading sound is a vowel, because the consonant is silent), it's the same rule as for a/an. 2/2

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Yep. Same as a/an and what my/mine used to go by.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Isn't "thou asketh" still a misusage, though? I think it should be "thou askest".

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

That is situationally correct, as askest is 2nd person while asketh is 3rd person. To a group, it's asketh; to a person is askest.

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

2nd person plural, is what you were looking for, 3rd person (singular) is he/she/it, they is 3rd plural

I saw Ian McKellen on stage last weekend and he lamented in the fact that nobody wants to be Romeo. Everyone wants to be Mercutio. Fact.
