Looks like something very easy to see from a distance/altitude....Maybe not wise

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Does it turn into a giant rescue robot?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That's the hand of Nod, you cant fool me. Where's Kane hiding now?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I hope this is just the foot of some larger war machine.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Is it a zipper?

8 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Article says intertwining fingers

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

As a belgian, how did I miss this?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Every architect and urban planner is having a stroke looking at this. To get to the next wing you walk 12 miles

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They will give useless a shiny, new home I see...

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

What they do?

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 3

Attend the US interests of undermining Russia while portraying the defense of Human Rights.

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Looks like a row of dirt devils

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Looks like a bunch of noses

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I don’t know why, maybe it’s cause it’s NATO, but I feel like that’s a Ally structure from Red Alert 2.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Apparently prototyped in Lego.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

No, it's not “still under construction”. They started moving in last month. This is an old photo (late 2016, I think).

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Here's a more recent photo from roughly the same angle:

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

NATO needs to be dissolved.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 5

Care to back that opinion up with a reason?

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Here is a nice reason https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adolf_Heusinger

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

A man who passed away in 1982 is relevant today because..?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Because of NATO values.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 3

Which ones? You're not giving me much to go on here..

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Looks like something out of Tiberian Sun

8 years ago | Likes 46 Dislikes 0

My brain immdiately went to the GDI and the "ribbed" look of their buildings

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

For realz. I can see this as a mission to defend the NATO-GDI headquarters against NOD burrowing tanks.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's really close to being a Hand of Nod. This fact pleases Kane:

Peace Through Power!

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

KANE LIVES!

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Definitely going to be playing that later. Broke down and bought the ultimate collection for 20 bucks from EA. C&C 95 to Tiberian Twilight.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Way ahead of you

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Nice! I'm in the middle of playing Generals now. I already owned the Decade version from like 10 years ago but the disc broke so I 1/2

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

wanted to back everything up and downloaded a digital copy of everything. Also a lot of my old discs were buggy as shit on Windows 10 2/2

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Neato.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Looks like the #4 attachment to my hair clippers.

8 years ago | Likes 842 Dislikes 10

I got some new clippers yesterday, and the guard starts at #6. That’s bullshit, right? I’m not overreacting?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Looks more like my #400000

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It must be designed by some danish.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Pubic hair?

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Good lord, your pubes must be thicker than a bowl of oatmeal D:

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

NATO gonna cut someone?

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Nah, just give them a nice trim.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I want this to go to front page just so people can see your comment.

8 years ago | Likes 38 Dislikes 1

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

That's a number 2 mate.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I was just gonna say that

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That is a beautiful description

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

They haven't installed the engines yet.

8 years ago | Likes 339 Dislikes 5

There will be no engines. Only minaret towers.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 17

And adhans every morning at 5 am.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 8

8 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 1

You're saluting the wrong building. The dark evil comes from here:

8 years ago | Likes 37 Dislikes 21

That's too easy and they're useless for Hydra. Hydra has maybe 12 there just to watch for laughs and just in case.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 3

For all the crap the US gets, under US world leadership and after adopting US inspired economic systems ~3 billion are out of poverty.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

Shhh, around these parts US=evil.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

watch you dont cut youself with that edge.

8 years ago | Likes 36 Dislikes 5

Ninja's don't get cut.

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 8

such edge. Many wow

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

Honestly one is just the foreign branch of the other.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

eh? NATO serves a real purpose, Russia are starting to develop a real... 19th century America vibe to them

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Elaborate?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

they've invaded two countries and seized territory in the last decade

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

FYI on the design https://www.nato.int/cps/su/natohq/topics_49287.htm Btw it seems it's finished, old pic this is.

8 years ago | Likes 39 Dislikes 1

Thanks Yoda

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Thanks, that was a good read

8 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

My pleasure :)

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Still seems odd to have sustainability be such a big issue in what would be a military target.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This is the political HQ in Brussels. The military HQ is located just outside Mons.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Sustainability is a big issue for all new (and old) constructions in Europe. War or not.

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

1. Militaries exist to enact policy, including regarding the environment. 2. Climate change is a major national security issue. 1/2

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

3. Although NATO must be prepared for war, building with the long-term future in mind is symbolic that NATO's existence can prevent war. 2/2

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

money saved on energy expenditures can be put towards more bullets and fuel and parts

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

There some functionality aspect I'm not getting here? Seems architecturally a waste of a lot of space

8 years ago | Likes 92 Dislikes 11

airplane defense

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

More windows, more natural light. If you've ever worked in a cubicle without a window, you'd get it.

8 years ago | Likes 41 Dislikes 0

They've left space open for future expansion possibilities

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The fuck they care, they have us peasants paying for it anyhow.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 3

And the loss of functionality and efficiency if someone wanted to go across to the other side or corner.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

if you're not an architect then , yes, there is something you are missing here.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Obviously each of those prongs is a missile. Duh.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Considering what all the Command & Conquer games have taught me I would agree with you.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Every building should be a featureless cube, right?

8 years ago | Likes 61 Dislikes 2

Apparently some people think a sq ft of constructed physical office space is less expensive than a sq ft of well, air.

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Place is huge; breaking up the mass is the only way to get natural light in. Also safety factors about evacuating quickly.

8 years ago | Likes 159 Dislikes 0

And you can green up the intermediate spaces. Plant rows of trees for a more pleasant view and air purification.

8 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

+1 for concise knowledge drop

8 years ago | Likes 43 Dislikes 0

Yup, in the winter when it freezes they have to heat it and like Brussels Airport they are using electrical heating against the regulations.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 5

military HQ's are prime targets in war, I'm sure that factored into it somehow.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 3

This isn't a military HQ, it's an administrative one.

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

SHAPE is located elsewhere. This is just for the paper pushers.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Paper pushers? Seems like you have less respect for people who dont kill ither people?!

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

If you want to be offended about mere words, go to tumblr.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Does it need to be that functional? It's not an actual base it's a headquarters

8 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 1

It’s called “other people’s money”

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Have you seen the size of the pentagon?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah boi show me the size of thay Pentagon. Oh you nasty.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

windows make a work environment more pleasant and if you're deciding how missiles should be used you don't wanna be stressed

8 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 1

Until it fucking resets on you at 8am when you walk away from your desk to get coffee and take a morning shit. ARRRRGGGHHH

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I gotta agree with this person.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Just like NATO always wasting resources.

8 years ago | Likes 45 Dislikes 42

They needs lots of space to have pointless meetings

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 15

Wow many downvotes. They hold no power, can't enforce anything and there are too many powers with veto. So it's useless

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Although I can’t see the time of day, the shadows on the right hand side of the glass curtain walls let me think that is north and 1/?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That means the long “fingers” run east to west for better natural daylighting opportunities, which is also why they are shallow. 2/?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The spacing between them can allow for daylight in between the plazas; spacing is based on the height so the plaza. 3/3

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Actually offsetting the segments of the building makes egress routes shorter. It spreads out the total area but it makes it safer for fires

8 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

..or evacuations. If the building with the same area was just one big rectangle the offices in the center would be much further to a door.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Shorter egress routes are better for getting people in/out of their offices, and quicker to evacuate during a fire.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It's a military HQ. If it can be set on fire, someone fucked up. That place needs to be designed with 'surviving airstrikes' in mind.
