So a possible cameo with this guy to the mix?

2 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

So bummed to find out about it as it's happening. I would have flown in to see this

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

When you make thousands of predictions, some are bound to be right. Also r/simpsonsdiditfirst must be loving this

Good read!

Oh oh... Simpsons did it, SIMPSONS DID IT!

Here you go:

Imagine being from the future and successfully travelling to the past and not being able to tell anyone what the future holds so you create an animated show on fox and drop subtle hints for what the future has in store - Matt Groening probably

Did someone order the LSO? Possibly while high??? Cypress Hill I’m looking at you.

First Homer ruins my pig, then Cyprus Hill steals my orchestra, and now Sonic Youth is raiding my cooler!

I preserved this post's points before I upvoted.

I know Colin Paterson. What a mighty claim to fame. What I actually should've said is that I worked with him for a while over 20 years ago. What a great comment. I look forward to re-reading this in the future.

Caving to fan pressure to enact a joke from a cartoon is not prescience. It’s simply a brick joke coming to fruition.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I love this so much. Cypress Hill might be my favorite hip-hop group.

2 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Doesn’t that sorta defeat the point of a prediction, if the people that are being predicted use the prediction to make the prediction happen

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Hope we can get some online. I really dig orchestra joining with otherwise 'hard' music. Hilltop Hoods did a great colab.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

You're not given a star. It's bought and paid for.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Before that one album, Peter Frampton was lead in a band called Humble Pie (late '60's iirc)... who weren't too bad even if they didn't last too long.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

.. possibly while high

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I don't like that 1996 was 28 years ago. Don't like it one bit

2 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 1

dont worry, its not 28 years. its just 3 years after the matrix came out.

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Oh I just don't like you now 😑

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Oh, thank goodness, that was like... 5 years ago... right? R-right?!

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

does it still count if its a self-fulfilling prophecy?

2 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

I think Cypress Hill would have needed to do the prediction. It's just fulfilling a prophecy

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This is cool. But it doesn't really count as "Simpsons predicted it" when the band watched the episode and said, "hey, we should do that."

2 years ago | Likes 61 Dislikes 2

Simpception

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I mean, they didn't just watch the episode, they were in it. I guess that's sorta like "Star Trek predicted William Shatner goes to space."

2 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

2 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

The band was IN the episode, even. So it double doesn't count

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Painfully true. If anything the issues being lampooned in the early seasons have become more sinister and entrenched over time.

2 years ago | Likes 54 Dislikes 0

It’s all downhill after season 11…

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The Simpsons were making jokes that, at the time, seemed cartoonishly outlandish...and yet, here we are.

2 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Social discourse is so much worse now compared to 1989, likely because tens of millions of people get their worldview spoon fed to them by unvetted sources on Facebook.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

As opposed to the hard hitting journalism found on cable news ?

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Trump wouldn't have become President back then. In fact he ran in 2000 and failed miserably. Really it's probably more like South Park's take on the Simpsons... There's been so many episodes they've covered basically every story. Reality is unable to come up with new plotlines because "the Simpsons did it."

2 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Well yeah but he announced it in 1999, so writing a one-off joke of "what if he was president someday" for an episode where Lisa becomes president that they were already working on would have been easy.

But also yes, especially because some of these coincidences are really obvious, like "famous act that has a tiger gets attacked by said tiger"

Clown sidekick crime might be underreported.

2 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 0

We still haven't ended BC.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

We had that year of murder clowns early COVID

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Except for that one time the clown with multiple felonies ran for office.

Not a massive Cypress Hill fan, but I want that badarse promotional poster.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I want one the old fashioned way. A proper paper poster.

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

save image to usb. bring usb to print co. ask for "poster size" which i believe is B1.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Oh, I 100% agree. Just wish I knew someone in London who could swipe me one lmao.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I'll never forget an episode where Lisa was talking to some gay politicians and they had a bumper sticker that said, "A Gay President in 2047," and when she asked them about it, one of them shrugged and said, "We're realistic." And I still wonder if that will be proven true.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I suppose it’s possible we’ve already had a gay president… just not out of the closet.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

There's that, too.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Also interesting cause the president in 2047 will be elected in 2044 with inauguration in 2045. So either there will be a rule change to election timing or terms, or, something happens midterm to the existing president at the time. I will be waiting with bated breath over the next 20 years to see what happens.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Maybe 2044 is the year Donald Trump finally wins re-election and drops dead on day one. Then two years later his Vice President Vladimir Putin Jr does some pretty heinous shit in office, as is expected from a Putin and gets impeached leading to the Gay Speaker of the house getting bumped up. Like the Simpsons said, they're being realistic, only way I can see a gay president in our lifetime.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That's a good point, and seems like a very plausible possibility, too.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I mean, after hundreds of episodes, something of it must come true

2 years ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 1

Monkeys on typewriters?

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Isn't that just AI?

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They predicted that, too.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Simpsons didn’t predict it. It was a reference to an Emile Borel quip dating back to 1913. “Given enough time, a hypothetical chimpanzee typing at random would, as part of its output, almost surely produce one of Shakespeare’s plays (or any other text).”

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

and the 'it was the best of times it was the blurst of times' is a reference to that Charles Dickens chap! except he said 'worst'!!!

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

(and not 'blursed')
