You don't need to tell us your life's story, especially if we haven't asked.

Just do it.

We really do. Loud people are scary.

We are really polite. Usually.

There is no "But officer!" here. They will have the last word.

Everybody always takes the naked issue on topic, we don't care, we wanna see you suffer because the heat.

Don't stand near us. It makes us nervous and we will never say anything.

Terveyskeskuslähete.

Fleemarkets are difference, but usually even there the price is final.

And mumble some english in there. Good luck.

We have HUGE personal space even in our homes. It's our yard, do not come there.

Come for the dark, cold, and loneliness. stay because you killed yourself.

Once upon a time, there was a Finnish man who loved his wife so much... he almost told her.

9 years ago | Likes 99 Dislikes 0

Finland, Finland, Finland, that's the country for me! Finland is the country where we dance, Finland is the country where we play....

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

Game we play is called "kirveshippa". "Axe tag" and we only count good hits.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

#10 is sometimes exactly wrong: many who don't speak english at all sober will suddenly learn when drunk.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Me every time I see a post about Finland:

9 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

Shit!I'm Croatian but now I feel like I'm Finnish.I'm living in a wrong country...

9 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Same! (Norway)

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

The most aggressive Finnish post I've seen all day

9 years ago | Likes 27 Dislikes 0

This makes me sad..

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

all except the sauna part seems to be the same as most countries in in Europe, I'm from England and it's pretty much the same here

9 years ago | Likes 28 Dislikes 0

It's the same for people literally everywhere these aren't rules for Finland it's rules for not being a dick

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 3

In Ireland if you take public transport somebody will sit next to you and give you their entire life story to make small talk.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah the only difference in England is that people will say hello if you are in a country town, and avoid you in a city

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

All these are true for Germany, unless the logical deduction is to talk to someone (if you need help with directions or something).

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Personal space in Spain or Portugal for example? Good luck with that!

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Seems so. I bought a car because I want to ride alone.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 3

The picture is someone cosplaying a character from this webcomic https://satwcomic.com It's pretty good and I'd recommend checking it out.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I feel bad for knowing that he is dressed as Humon's personification of Finland.

9 years ago | Likes 43 Dislikes 1

SATW!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The only thing I can see to improve the cosplay would be sister sweden

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

So true. Went to Finland. Stood too close to someone. He got very upset. I tried to apologize but he wouldn't let me Finnish.

Shit I'm Greek, pretty much the opposite of Finnish (even our flags are kinda the same, reversed) but I heartly enjoyed & applaud this post!

9 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 0

So Greece is pretty much the opposite of everything here?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Italian here. I'm pretty sure we have a lot in common with Greece

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

finland is my spirit animal

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

I am your spirit animal

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Finland sounds like the home I never knew I needed.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

TIL I'm Finnish.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I love that someone actually cosplayed as Finland http://imgur.com/ifudT2a

9 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

I've seen people cosplay as Sister Sweden and Finland.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Finland is the most metal country in the world that they have a children's heavy metal band with people in dinosaur costumes

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Well...that finnishes that.

9 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 3

A whole country of introverts? How do I join?

9 years ago | Likes 255 Dislikes 4

You dont "join", you go there, shut up and buy some vodka.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

please, we are crowded as is already.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

*Finntroverts

9 years ago | Likes 124 Dislikes 0

Introverts as long as they are sober. Finns are the best people I've ever met.

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

when they're drunk, or? x)

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Dunno, been 6 years in Finland, never met someone sober.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

You can't. They need the space.

9 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

Keep out of that personal space.

9 years ago | Likes 52 Dislikes 2

took me so long to build up the courage to send a message. when can i expect a response?

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Okay, now what's the wait time on a response?

9 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Yes

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

A finnish email that doesn't start with "tsjek email" , you can't be finland man

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You don't. We're full.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

Ihan don't think we are all introvents or any less social than other countires. Pure habits are just different. We are really polite and

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Giving people space not interrupting is one form If it. If you are just chatting about something to want to do or to be done, we usually

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Just do it. Sometimes it can cause some difficulties at work culture. But every Finn is different but If you Ask directions or basically any

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

*anything most of us are Happy to help :)

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

not so much a nationality thing, it's a northerner thing. Americans from cold regions tend to be quiet in public as well.

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

As a nothern wisconsinite, can confirm.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

As a Polish guy living in NH, can confirm.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

And some related to Finns or Swedes.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

A lot of this can apply to Minnesota as well.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

There's a not-insignificant amount of Nordic ancestry in Minnesota and northern counties (1/2)

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

i can concur most of this. except the fact that when drunk, finns are fluent in whatever language they need.

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Can confirm. When drunk my dad often suddenly started speaking English. It was a shock the first time. We didn't know he could.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

When are you not drunk?

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

We only drink on days that begin with a T. Tuesday, Thursday, Tomorrow and Today

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Somewhere between sleep and awake. Our whole country is build in believing alcohol is some kind of religion. If something upsets people 1/2

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

The government just does something to the alcohol laws to make us watch in the other direction. And im not even kidding.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I feel like I have just found my people!

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

So: be quiet, mind your own business, be a good sport about being a foreigner, and don't be a dick.

9 years ago | Likes 511 Dislikes 3

Welcome

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So basically like traveling to any other country in the entire world

9 years ago | Likes 63 Dislikes 3

Sadly, not everyone believes in this approach.

9 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

Was walking around Helsinki with some friends and we heard someone talking 2 blocks away. We bet they were Americans. Nope. Canadians.

9 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 0

They may be Americans just saying they are. I do that as well if I suspect people may be hostile to me, or just say I am Cuban.

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Where do I apply?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Life hack right there.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Remember to avoid eye contact with strangers. It's awkward

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

That's so weird

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So. Basic considerate human behaviour?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

North Vancouver and Finland would get along famously, if it wasn't for the personal space issue. We'd apologize and do our best though.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I used to live/work in Oakland CA, that place is not for the average Fin.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Pretty sure some parts of Oakland aren't for the average person.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Trying to get to work. Car in front and in oncoming direction just stop, and start having loud-ass conversation in middle of street.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's not for the average anyone. I live in San Jose and avoid Oakland at all costs. If I do go, I take my glock.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Yeah, you got it!

9 years ago | Likes 131 Dislikes 2

What's the policy on immigration? This sounds amazing.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

If only people everywhere would follow similar rules.

9 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 0

Well...maybe you should try maybe Italy or Newfoundland at least once before you say that. No personal space, LOUD, and super fun.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Sounds simple enough.

9 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Quite incredible how many tourists manage to fuck up something so easy

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

How does one go about and making a Finnish friend?

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Social settings. Bars, schools, uni, parties etc. If you talk to us in a social setting, we're more likely to give a positive response.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Ah...imgur works also?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Online is usually a good place too, yes.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

One thing you need to consider, if someone comes in to your yard. How the fuck you react to that? I prefer going inside and check back later

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

"Can I help you? I mean, you are smashing my ficking petunias there."

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The hell I would have petunias or any other flowers on my yard. So that would be the least of the problems.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Torille!

9 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 4

Meinasin jo tulla kehumaan että ei vielä yhtäkään torille kommenttia, kiitos tästäkin vähästä.

Ok so to summarize Finnish people are very guarded secure and to themselves. Do not approach

9 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Yeah but most forget that after you gain our trust we might become too talkative even.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Much appreciate. We only have sex by accident.

9 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 1

"Oops! I fell over!"

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That's exactly what this post makes me think like how are these people reproducing

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I have honestly never had sex with someone I didn't drink with first. Welcome to the Finnish romance!

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's the alcohol

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Ok, I keep on seeing the Finnish hat thing, can someone explain that to me?

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

It's cosplay, he is the Finnish character in "Scandinavia and the World". HIGHLY recommended https://satwcomic.com/

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

It's always winter here. Summer is slightly warmer and less snow.

9 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

Fuck off Finnish summers sound amazing compared to english summers. We just get warm rain:(

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I've once visited there for a few days at summer. Rained whole day. Even rain themed merchandise at airport. Loved it though

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It really depends on where you live in Finland, south Finland is pretty damn warm, but up near the norwegian border it rarely goes over 20C.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Dont like 90% of fins live in/near helsinki? or at least on that latitude. Obviously the north is freezing. But 20c is still warm

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Not even near 90%, but you're not completely wrong as the population is concentrated to the south.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Basically the same in Sweden. Love you Finland!

9 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

I'm moving from Finland to Sweden this August. Can't wait to feel the silent Northern brotherhood.

9 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

You're gonna love it here! I live in the north were Sweden and Finland is kinda the same place. Tervetuloa!

fuck you swedes and your pre-sliced, soft crust, sugarfilled piece of shit bread. i've been trying for years to find a decent piece of bread

9 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 2

but you ain't got no real bread, all you have are these soft pillows of sugary halfcooked dough. even your whole-wheat bread is packed with

9 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 2

Limpa is good (+ ost + kakao), polarkaka is also good (toast it, then put too much butter and some kokt kinka on it + cucumber. Heaven.)

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah sure, sure, except polarbrød gets moldy within seconds of opening it so no thank you

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Store it in the freezer and just toast/defrost one at a time.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

sugar. it's sickening. bread is supposed to have a nice and crispy crust, and the center crumbs (i dunno what to call it) should be filling.

9 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 2

listen man, i like bread, but your country's lack of real bread makes vacation trips to sweden unbreadable. pun intended, fuck you

9 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 2

Everybody can't be as crazy about bread as you guys, you even got bread as your national dish, bread is NOT a dish! but yeah our bread sucks

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Ever heard of knäckebröd?

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I know three words of Finnish. One's a swear, one means "beer", and one is "sauna". So basically all I would need to survive.

And you say it sau-na. Just like that.

I know salmiakki and kippis. Plus every Finnish hockey player. I'm set.

Costs like 20-30€ to visit a doctor. Surgeries/MRI cost more, not thousands though. But that's why you get an insurance.
