I am so damn proud. After attempting to learn to knit 6 times in 10 years it finally stuck after a woman sat down and explained it to me in easy terms. It's may be just a washcloth but it represents finally learning this skill!

Upvotes all around for those who comment on this wonky washcloth! I am so happy I could burst.

This is the same washcloth in the EXACT same color as the first one I learned to knit! Great job and enjoy your new hobby.

It's something not too many people are capable of. It's not *just* a washcloth :) great job!

Great job, here's a tip: go out and buy BIG yarn and big needles, it's easier for when you're starting out.

It's like a blanket for kittens. And I love it.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I could make one for my cat, that could be fun.

Is this one of those decorative wash clothes that won't wash anything?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Nope! As soon as I finished I went and took a shower.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That sounds dangerous.

As someone who recently learned to crochet, I salute you! It feels good to make something out of practically nothing.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It does! I've crocheted for years but always wanted to knit too so I tried, again. This time it finally stuck.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Congrats, @op! That's one skill I'm still trying to learn.

When my dad was in the RAF in the 1950's they were all taught to knit so they could make their own gloves, hats etc in an emergency.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That's actually really interesting! Did he ever continue it as a hobby?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yep, he made scarves and wash cloths and teddies. BTW the best knitter I know is a 35 year old man

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

10 years to knit that? Damn so

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I would start, get frustrated, and then give up. This was knitted in a few days. The other ones I had started in previous years looked bad.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

My wife is teaching me. (Imma dude)

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

That's wonderful that you want to learn!

Knit washcloths are the BEST!! Now, for weaving in ends...

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Did and done my friend!

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Good for you. I think that's my wife's least favorite part.

Cotton knitted dishcloths make amazing gifts and they last for years. If that was your first, you did really well.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It was my first. I can show you the other things I've worked on before. I'd get confused halfway through, unable tell which side was k or p.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I used to be the same way. or which side was the wrong side or right side. it takes practice but you're doing a great job :)

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Congratulations! I crochet pretty well, but knitting is still on the to do list some day.

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

That's where I was at as well.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Keep going! Get some merino wool and get on ravelry.com- you can search by difficulty rating! Happy knitting!!

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Also your stitches are very even. It looks very good!

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thank you so much! After I had gotten it down and felt good I started picking a lot of things on ravelry. Thinking a short row shawl next.

Knitting washcloths is great since they are not huge projects but are still useful and work just fine even if you mess up a bit.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

What's it made from? I want to knit a washcloth

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Sugar and Cream cotton yarn. The place near me was running a 2 for 5 deal. I think I can get two washcloths out of one ball.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Do you recon it would work for a bath mat too?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It could totally work for that but would need its widest point extended because this is more pit holder size.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

@OP Congrats! Check out Joanne's Web at https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCJs-4cgnJJgkJfRHogiOecQ, it really helped me to learn how to knit!

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I've started adding ALL the free patterns to my ravelry library.

9 years ago | Likes 68 Dislikes 0

Lion brand will email you free patterns of you sign up.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ravelry is crack for knitters. Welcome to the obsession!

9 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 0

Seriously. My pattern folder on my laptop is insane.

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I try to utilize the ravelry library feature. That way it's all on their servers, and not my hard drive.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

You should make items and sell them. I'll buy¿¿¿

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Honestly without specific commissions the price range is way outside what most will pay for the time and materials it takes.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yeah but people are willing to pay

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This. So much. Even calculating on minimum wage, the number of hours it takes to make things worth purchasing is more than most think.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Agreed. With how long it takes to make a Shaw I just make them for my gf and friends. If the yarn is >$25 per skein I make them pay for it.
