"Lemme drive this so I can't fuckin' see where I'm going."

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

How do you see pushing the trailer?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I want dis.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Reminds me of the Transformer Hot Rod. He was the lamest ever. Til I saw this.

They never sold these trailers (US-manufactor). Brillant idea but it turned out to be not strong enough to hold the trailer securely.

It would be nice to get one that had a hitch and this contraption. For maneuvering detach the regular hitch and use the top hitch.

That's a smart isea

If you look closely, you can see the driver is actually holding it with one hand, much like rednecks do when transporting mattresses.

8 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 1

You need to watch closer.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Yeah the passenger is holding with two hands.

I'm no whale biologists but would you be better reversing and using the side mirrors? You're not going to see more going forwards

And?just give it hell!

Fun fact there is maybe two in existence that are original you could probably get one custom made however

8 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 2

That was fun!

I so want one of these

Beetles struggled under their own power, I can't imagine towing a trailer with an air cooled flat four originally designed in the 30's

8 years ago | Likes 253 Dislikes 4

You forget when these were designed people didn't need to worry about "hills", "curves", or "women".

With a rear mounted engine

My 1972 VW Camper has a 1600CC pancake motor and it can tow over a ton with trailer brakes.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Duh, you just use the Herbie engine.

8 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

My super beetle had a pretty tough little engine. And it was stock. You can draw a lot of power out of those boxer engines.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The most powerful engine in the beetle made 60hp, double it and it's still less than a compact pickup, and those tow about 2,000lbs.

Which is maybe a tent trailer or a small teardrop trailer.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah, I saw this and thought, "what's the trailer made out of, balsa wood and prayer?!?"

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The windows look painted on.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah, I can't believe a 1973 VW bug with 46 hp is going to tow anything that big - at least not over 30 mph. Besides, funky trailer hitch.

8 years ago | Likes 68 Dislikes 1

It looks like it might fuck with the center of gravity

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I thought that same thought also!

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm pretty sure hitting the brakes will cause a whole lot of brake dive. Imagine hitting the brakes on a curve, it would roll.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's basically a gooseneck, but the extra reinforcement has to add more weight to an already overstressed car. Drum brakes don't help either

8 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 1

Also adds alot of inertia to the top of the car. Anyone familiar with the triangular diagrams they show forklift operators would see a prob

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

There's probably a reason this trailer design never caught on.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

fgooseneck trailers are quite useful for heavy loads. In apickup, they distribute the load over the rear axle. Still made, and work fine

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

What if it's running a modern flat four made by a certain Japanese car manufacturer? I have a friend that converts old Beatles and buses...

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

I tow 750lb boat/trailer 40 plus miles in my Toyota Camry 4 cylinder

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's within its manufacture towing capacity. Also, I was able to pull my 14 alumium boat out of the water on a 30° boat ramp

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

To run on modern Subaru Engines

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Nice!

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah I saw on jay Leno garage someone did this with an Porsche 356 and I fell in love.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Then they need to upgrade the brakes, suspension, unibody to handle it. It also needs weight to keep trailer sway to a minimum

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

that's what he does with the conversions. When he's done they're more Subaru than VW

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I want to see these monsters in action.
