My partner and I decided to move across the world to NZ. We’ve been planning for 2 years and finally it’s happening next week. I’m leaving a job that I’ve been in for 16 years and just landed a new one over there. I was so worried I wouldn’t be able to get one. That I wouldn’t be good enough to compete. But I did it. I did it guys.

Awesome mate! I've been here 14 years now. It is expensive, but I have a much better quality of life than when I lived in the UK.

A gorgeous and mighty little nation that punches way above it's weight and as far away from northern hemisphere shit as possible.

@op You are so fortunate! All the best. I wish I could find a way to move abroad but with age not on my side I don't think it will happen.

Welcome! It's a sweet wee spot. Wellington based imgurian here.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Haven’t been to Wellington yet. Only AKL & Qtown. I will be visiting everywhere though. How windy is Wellington? I hear the landing is fun

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's a ride. Freshest air but stunning city.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Welcome to NZ OP! Congrats, and enjoy the Spring weather. Where're you heading?

3 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Auckland is where my in laws are based. But I will be seeing it all.

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Congrats @op! We moved from UK to NZ in 2002, best thing we ever did, hope you enjoy it here as much as we have.

Heads up! If somebody says their name is britt, it's actually brett.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

So you'll still be on imgur, just at weird times?

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

You will need to learn how to murder your vowels. Easiest way is pretty much swap every vowel with another. If in doubt use U for every word

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I’m welsh and we only have constants. I Amy struggle.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I laughed. I wish you all the best in your new hemisphere, from across the ditch (Oz).

If you visit Hobbittown share the pics.

I went 7 years ago. It was spectacular. Very well run, I would highly recommend the tour.

3 years ago | Likes 59 Dislikes 0

Congrats on the move! If you get a chance, I can't recommend Akaroa on the south island enough; just absolutely stunning surroundings!

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

If I had the money.

3 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 0

I married a kiwi. That helped.

3 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 0

I met an NZ couple at Sturgis in Aug.. stayed at their place in Nov n he took me to Hobbiton on a Harley ? You're so lucky to move there!!

3 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

I'm gonna assume Hobbittown is like Disneyland and OP got a job as a Frodo Baggins mascot.

3 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

What is the job @op ? And congrats!

3 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

It’s working as an internal comms job for one of the biggest NZ companies.

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Post lots of awesome pics for us still trapped back in our crappy mainlands pls!

Took me a minute….choice brah

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Didn't you need a work visa finalized before moving to NZ?

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

No I married a kiwi so have permanent residence visa already.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Good strategy! Injoy the six!

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Why does NZ seem to be the spot EVERYONE is trying to get to? I have 3 people in my life planning on moving there....

3 years ago | Likes 125 Dislikes 1

It's actually a lovely place. Not without its problems just like anywhere. But English speaking, rich culture. Veggies are expensive tho ?

3 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Well, Covid has shown their government gives a shit about their citizens. Much better than the greed and hate in the USA.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Don't worry in a couple of years they all move to Australia ?

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My guess is that it a beautifull country that speaks english and atm dosent have any obvious political shit going on like USA or UK?

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Because they don't want to bother learning another language

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 3

There’s 2 languages spoken there and they welcome people from all countries.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

There are a number of reasons.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Climate refugees getting a jump on things...

3 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Ah yes. 'Answers With Joe' covered that.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

NZ sounds nice, I happen to be off to Norway!

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's the English-speaking country that told Murdoch media to take a hike decades ago, so it's the English-speaking country that has 1/

3 years ago | Likes 77 Dislikes 0

resisted the rise of fascism the best over the last couple decades. Not saying there aren't still issues, but it's much better.

3 years ago | Likes 66 Dislikes 0

Don't forget their covid rate

3 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 0

You probably need to visit to find out.

3 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

The is greener on the other side of the world. Honestly grass looks pretty green there. Beware of extra high expectations. Also…

3 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 1

…TAKE ME WITH YOU! Seriously! Forget what I just said. You might be the only people w democracy/ ecosystem in a decade.

3 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

If they're the only ones in a decade, they won't last much longer than that lol.

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

Middle Earth with a distinct lack of assholes I guess.

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

It'll take a lot longer for the nuclear fallout to get to them.

3 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

No natural predators?

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

No snakes or alligators; one venomous spider with a specific habitat. No native predators, though ferrets and possums were introduced.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Far away from the world's problems. Quiet, stable, peaceful and self-sufficient in food. We're doing alright down here.

3 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 0

Why don't you ask them? I think the answer is pretty evident.

3 years ago | Likes 87 Dislikes 2

It's crazy expensive.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

We played pandemic. Remote islands are the hardest to infect. Also, where you live now might be going downhill fast... American?

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

They had a police guinea pig. Constable Elliot! The only reason to go! That and politics, weather and just seems to care for citizens.

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I had friends move there and then get swindled out of their jobs and move back home.

3 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 6

Well, bugger. I apologise on behalf of the rest of the country for the asshole(s) they encountered. Most of us are actually nice people.

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Oh I believe it! The situation was definitely sad though. And they found out this guy had done the same thing to others before them.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Properties in NZ and Iceland are rapidly being bought up by billionaires to escape to since these two countries are thought to be 1/2

3 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

i'd buy property in iceland tomorrow if i even thought i could afford it

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Resilient to the eventual climate and societal collapses we can expect around the world in the coming decades.

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Genuine question out of ignorance: how does an island fair better climate change than much bigger land masses?

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Google "continentality"

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Thanks

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

My husband's talked about it and his main reason is politics. Took care of their people during covid, take it seriously, actually act /1

3 years ago | Likes 43 Dislikes 0

like a community who gives a shit about each other. /2

3 years ago | Likes 33 Dislikes 0

I like NZ but: It's way easier to care for your people during covid when you're an Island state and not surrounded by 9 other states.

3 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 4

Unless you're BoJo and warn people when flights will be stopped, so they can all rush in, before the deadline.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Of course. But lots of places didn't even fucken try. I'm not saying they all would have succeeded, but most barely tried.

3 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

They were able to track a small outbreak down to a single elevator button. That takes a lot of effort.

3 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Welcome :) what city are you moving to?

3 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

South Auckland.

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Ew

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Hopefully that doesn't put you off NZ mate ? I'd try for Wellington or Christchurch if you get the chance ?

3 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

I have family there now. All the in laws are locals. We’ve bought a plot of land and building a home there.

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Nice all in. There is plenty of beauty wherever you are in the country. Good luck to you and welcome ?

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

What part?

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Karaka.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Nice! Home if spookers

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Should be cool. I moved from the UK to otahuhu. Bit of a shithole but I'd rather be there than any UK shit hole tbh.

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

It's up and coming tho.
