Harbor Square in Southwest Washington DC has at least four condos very similar to this

I'll take the room itself with walls that shield me from the cursed day star.

I just wanted a room. I still wish I had a room.

My friend and I recently marathoned the entire show and even watch the epilogue movie. Boy, does that show hold up. Except the beepers.

I loved Doug!

Drones and Google maps would probably make it a nightmare now. Loved the show though.

I have an irrational fear of seeing someone looking at me through windows (thanks michael myers), so this would be my nightmare.

An old Nickelodeon cartoon called Hey Arnold.

Move it football head.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Please tell us the reference.

2 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 2

It had part of the wall that flipped down with a hidden couch. It was an awesome bedroom!

A cartoon called Hey Arnold. The main character lived in that bedroom.

I'd feel like an ant in an ant farm, living my life as people in airplanes fly by and judge me.

Wonder what the rent on that would be today.

2 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Weren't his grandparents the landlords?

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I'm not sure if they owned it or were the hired superintendents, but yeah, definitely something like that.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Arnold was able to afford it because of the lawsuit against the doctor who delivered him. That football head? Too much forceps.

Same. Still want it as an adult, but imagine the AC bill trying to keep that place cool. Just baking like a pizza soon as the sun comes up.

I have triple-paned glass with 2 different glasses pumped into them and omg the temperature difference it makes is crazy. Easily worth the $800/window when I first moved into my house

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I'd be more worried about keeping it clean.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Mmmm pizza

And the amount of heat needed to keep it warm.

There are actually a lot of really good yet surprisingly affordable and easy to apply commercial-grade window film products these days, which can not only tint to reduce glare as desired, but reduce IR penetration to the point cooling isn't an issue. You'll still need to heat in the winter due to radiant heat loss through the glass, but you won't need to dissipate heat in the summer.

2 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

photovoltaic windows are coming, even saw some that where working on some that could actually change to absort, reflect or let IR trough.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I was about to say it wouldn't be an issue thinking it was set in San Fran... but memory lied to me. Brooklyn, NYC means heat will be an issue.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Could you put the same film inside too ?

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They're usually applied from the inside of glass (for convenience reasons). 3M basically owns the window film market, so look at what they sell if you're curious.

Ceramic window tint does an AMAZING job keeping the greenhouse cool. Anymore you can get them so they are just about clear. Like a 80% tint

That and double pane.

.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I have never heard of these-- thank you! Totally ordering a bunch next summer.

You can even get photochromic tint (think transition lenses). so it's even more clear at night and darker in the day. It's about $100 a sheet.

I have it on my car and Ive installed it on windows in my house as well to help with windows that face the sun

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

wait are you not using it as a greenhouse? that's gonna block a lot of the uv light plants need

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

The term greenhouse is used to describe an area like that with a lot of windows or the cab of your car since its surrounded by windows. "Your car gets as hot as a greenhouse in the summer"

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

the term 'greenhouse' literally means a building designed to grow plants in, with lots of (usually glass) windows to let in sunlight so it would stay warm and encourage plant growth even during winter. Hence the "green".

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I know what a greenhouse is, but in this case its about context. You dont grow plants in your bedroom or your car but the inside still has the same affects as one because of all the glass..... Its ok to take things not literal
