Yesterday, our small North Dakota town of about 300 people welcomed home Navy soldier Lawrence Fecho from Pearl Harbor.

Full military ceremony with soldiers from all over the states stood alongside our local veterans.

People from all around the state and country lined the streets of Willow City to welcome home their fallen soldier 76 years later. I was honored to be apart of this history and thought it was too cool not to share with Imgurians.

Thank you for sharing. Many of us appreciate it. RIP.

I actually rode my bike through that town. It was a very friendly place. Wishing you all the best, & thank you for your service, Mr. Fecho.

Did...did you just call members of the Navy "soldiers"?

One of the most down on your knees, humbling sights I have ever seen, is the sheer size of military cemeteries in your country. I 1/2

am sincerely thankful for the sacrifices that have been made for peace, by the common people. Rest in peace.

He'll be forever frozen in time, young...a life cut short...his family not knowing where his body was...all the while life goes on and 1/?

his loved ones wondering if he is at peace and if they'll ever see him again in the other side :'( and for what?

Amazing...no mention of WHY he was just returned home. Repost. . .

Unthinkable here in Germany.

Considering the rather small number of German deaths at Pearl Harbour I would have to agree.

No, he washed ashore.

It seems his body was exhumed from it's grave in Hawaii, tested, then returned to his home.

Part of a DoD project to identify previously unidentified bodies (at the time of burial) and return them to their families.

It was discovered through DNA testing in May and he was brought back to North Dakota on Friday!

I mean, why would they exhume the corpse(s) to even do a DNA test? Seems odd, unless a body or bodies were newly found.

I believe his body was newly found (unsure of those details) but they are working more on DNA testing to bring (1/2)

The bodies they find back home for proper burial/closure.
