I love this show for how hilarious it is, but this episode showed that it can tackle uncomfortable topics as well. I loved this scene in the episode, because it actually makes you feel uncomfortable watching it. It's not a feeling you want to feel but at the same time, should be one that comes up. As a brown man that experiences very subtle racism, no where near the extent as some people. I think it's good to feel this uncomfortable feeling. This is episode made me love this show so much more.

Eh... it was cool because all of B99 is cool. But I'd rather Hollywood take a break from moral preaching.

One of my least favorites. A fairly unfunny after school special of an episode.
MissAizea
Blue bloods somehow handles this well, despite being an all white cast
Demoncptn426
The conversation Jake and Amy have with the twins is totally me around kids ?
tmonation
Family Matters had a great episode dealing with this also: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6DRoTHnt5Fg
Canofminus
A black friend got pulled over on his way to pick me up. Accused him of stealing his mom’s car. Will never forget the look of hurt & anger

Uncomfortable topics like having to watch Sandy Amberg try to be funny.
trikucian
A good show comedy should have some drama, and a good drama should have some comedy. Otherwise they're dull and unfulfilling

I hate that shit with the passion of a thousand suns. Drama is an easy crutch for writing, especially when you take the safe stance.
Vergenbuurg
Reminds me of "The Harris Incident" (S05E10) from Barney Miller. Another comedy that could handle drama magnificently.
Doober12082
I love Terry... both Terries... from my hometown to boot.
Sweetcharade83
I love how well it handles tough subjects while still being funny: this, Rosa’s coming out, Holt and Kevin. Also: NINE NINE!
slinkhi
I mean TBF, he does look like someone you don't wanna fuck with..
TrikStari
I'm white. Always been nervous around police. You're not the only ones.
rezpawner
The main difference is that we don't really have a reason to be. They do.
LordOfTheGingers
I was thinking about this in the shower the other day, it is a fucking excellent episode.
IhaveAdogAndAnxiety
I also think about Terry Crews in the shower.
LordOfTheGingers
I think it followed on from thoughts of Rosa Diaz but it's the destination not how you get there!

Also love that Sergeant Terry is good father and also someone that has authority.
Boomboomyeahshaketheroom
And Terry LOVES yogurt!
Wgasa
Terry Crews legit looks like he could tear me in half. If I didn't know he was a teddy bear, I would be scared shitless of him.
RIIIIIIGGS
@OP, this is the one episode from this series I didn’t like because I thought it was forced. Other than that, I love it.
BewareTheIceSpiders
When they outed Rosa as bi, that was forced as hell.
Boomboomyeahshaketheroom
From their panel at comiccon - the actress actually is bi and the writers asked her if/how to handle it. Informed by her experience.
BewareTheIceSpiders
To be fair the writing for Rosa always make her sound like she's in an afterschool special.
RIIIIIIGGS
Yes! I forgot about that one. You’re right. I think it was worse because it wasn’t delivered that well, either.
mthrndr01
I that one was better. Moo Moo was on par with a Saved by the Bell very special episode. I've seen it before, and I've seen it better.
RIIIIIIGGS
You’re right; it definitely felt like an after-school special.
jennym123
I just started watching, did they make a big deal out of that?
ThePunishersVengefulBrother
It addressed a very serious subject in a tasteful and respectful manner, while still being a comedy show.

Scrubs did a fantastic job at this.
gablestout
That's what made M*A*S*H and Scrubs so good
utur
I find that the best serious subjects are approached in a comedic medium when it's kept tasteful. It stops it from being overwhelmingly >>
utur
painful by having mood lightening bits.
resinmir
I love that they asked Andre Braugher what he thought Holt would do. *Spoilers* he was the one who came up with the idea of Holt not 2/2
Ajierene
We all need to remember that today is not 20 or 50 years ago, people can get stuck in the past and it prevents real growth 2/2
resinmir
2/2 wanting to report the incident. Originally he was going to support Terry. I think it shows alternate views on how to combat racism.
Ajierene
I really liked that line of the story, Holt was originally thinking of himself 20 yrs ago and had to remind himself that times changed..1/2
frankxcid
This man is funnier than jim Carey and Eddie Murphy, I wish he had a better agent
LetheTheArtificer
I think you're comparing him at his peak decade. The others at their peaks were just as good imo (90s and 80s respectively).
madpoopz
I don't think you can compare the 3. I doubt he'd succeed in any comedy the other 2 have done.
jennym123
It doesn't help that his career got roughed up for came forward on being sexuality assaulted by a powerful hollywood figure.
MrPeebles
He actually has a new agent. His old one was part of the agency that the guy who groped him was in. They did nothing so he left. Onward!
yelseW
I mean Jim Carey is definitely among the funniest ever
JudgementalMan
Really? I've always found him to be very charismatic but not particularly funny.
FunkyPenguin
I agree, I love Terry Crews as an actor, but he’s never made me laugh out loud like Jim Carrey.
ford53
He needs the rock’s agent for sure
z0de
The rock has always been a fantastic self promoter

The Rock is awesome, but man...he did Skyscraper. THAT was a bad idea. Everyone gets one big mistake, that was his.

White or black, I would approach someone who is built like that very carefully.
Pizzaguitar
If you watch the episode he was in like bed clothing (PJs). Nothing scary about pjs
ApotheosisCM
Sure... but his size had absolutely nothing the do with it. He was walking around in his "white" neighborhood and was stopped for that.
WalterSobchaksWorldOfPain
I know, I’m just making a stupid comment. I’ve seen it.
berserkerteacup
Sure, but that's not the scenario that Terry faced. He was just in his neighborhood minding his own business.

ablindbear
Right? That man could probably no joke rip your arm off.
Mimsey
Do you tiptoe around the gym, too? Plenty of strong guys there. Plenty of average guys walking around who could wreck you, too.
BushToadSherlock
Being they're on imgur there's a large chance they don't go to the gym. I know I haven't in a while.
LiberalViking
Three workouts today and cruising imgur before bed!
jorue
I would if I was a cop
answertoJavert
Are you daft? A 6'3, 250lbs man walking around in the dead of the night, regardless of race, is bound to be scary. Not so much at the gym.
answertoJavert
Just like some dude with a shotgun in the shooting range isn't scary at all, but seeing someone with one at a school is terrifying.
Mimsey
Do you think all Mexicans are thieves, too? Are all black guys you see on the street gangbangers? Are all Muslims terrorists? /2
answertoJavert
Well, a any of those wearing a nice suit inside a lawyer firm will look like a lawyer. Same logic for terrorist, thief or gangbanger.
Mimsey
Speak for your damn self. I have never in my life been assaulted by a random big dude on the street. /1
Radants
I know that argument, I've made that argument, but guess what every time I did it was just a way to be in denial about racism.
SoundMountain
Wow what a retort
Radants
Thanks, unfortunately the people who need to hear it most are determined to invalidate it.
SoundMountain
You wouldn’t be afraid to try and handcuff terry crews? The rock? John Cena? All men who could literally break you. Fear isn’t racism
Radants
Who said anything about handcuffs? The example was Terry just walking down the street minding his own business.
Rheios
From a different kind of asshole to an apparent racist, thank you for your honesty and fuck-off on painting strangers with your faults

Vox? yeah the most scientific publication out there. Type in "Vox is" and see what googles autocompletes it to, buddy.
Radants
Because intelligent people give a shit what google autocompletes? Yeah, OK.
