Tales of a Nature Center Tour Guide Continued Continued

May 19, 2015 6:41 PM

Always a little awkward there. Happens constantly in the spring.

We try very hard to *NOT* offend people. So unless they bring it up, we don't talk about it.

I didn't follow this rule once and had a kid raise his hand and say "But Miss, evolution is just a made up story, right?"

I'm terrible at typing

I need to clarify that once I saw it, I knew it was a beaver. And I did apologize for the misinformation immediately.

They are diving birds. And awesome.

I worry for the future

I wish we could afford gatorade, but seriously... sodas are not going to help you when it's 100+F outside

I would hear this joke 10+ times a day.

It's actually funny because there are actually fish in the lake with no eyes
(Blind Cave Tetra)

Nature Center means we try to keep it as natural as possible. In no world are cheetos natural.

It was the last time I made that comment with out qualifying that even though the water is very clean, you should consider that fish poop in it.

Again... come on. You should know better.

I mean, people shaped fish? It was a joke.

This was a real low for me.

That's right, no talking about sex.

Yeah. You aren't getting it back. The fish needed an upgrade anyway

This was the worst thing that ever happened. When I got to work I cried. They took the fire extinguishers and emptied them into the lake. There was no way for us to know how much damage that did.

Everybody chipped in to replace what we needed, even though we made peanuts. Even then, it took over a year to get the money to fix/replace everything. If you visit today you can still tell that it happened.

So I am trying to answer everyone's questions and give information to whoever wants to visit, but ever since the first one hit the FP it's been a little overwhelming. But I will eventually catch up, I promise. BTW you guys are the best.

AS A CHRISTIAN PLEASE TELL THOSE CHRISTIAN KIDS ABOUT SEX AND EVOLUTION SO THEY ARENT STUPID WHEN THEY GROW UP

11 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

Why shouldn't you talk about evolution? These people are going to a nature centre, not Bible Fantasy Dream World. They need to face facts.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

""But Miss, evolution is just a made up story, right?" I hope, one day someone will be held legally responsive for such things to happen.

11 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

*responsible

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

If someone tries to crack that joke again you should quickly answer, Blind Cave Tetra! That will slow their roll

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Either the water is clean enough to drink or it isn't. "Fish poop in it" is not an argument for adults.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

The fish do a lot more in that water than just poop in it if you know what I mean...

11 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 1

:D

11 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

11 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Everything. They do everything in the water.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

They also go pee-pee?

11 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Didn't you read the post? Don't talk about se -- wrestling.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

OP, don't you dare try to tell me that there isn't a world out there somewhere where cheetos grow naturally! I believe!

11 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

The thing that upsets me is that we keep children from learning facts to avoid offending parents.

11 years ago | Likes 36 Dislikes 1

Agreed!

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Right?!?! I'm like 'Wait, what? How come the kids don't know about the animals sexing? Is it supposed to be a secret?'

11 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

There are times and places for it, many want to do it at their own digression.

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 6

That's great but some parents wait too long and they end up getting misinformation from the wrong place.

11 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

I learned everything I know about sex from the internet and friends. My parents never even gave me "the talk".

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Admittedly, I think I would ignore the teachers and yell," THEY MUST KNOW!" Then tell the kids about the natural process of reproduction.

11 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 3

THEY'RE MAKING BABIES, NOW GET OVER IT. LOOK, I BROUGHT DOLLS, KIDS! Observe. ::Mashes them together::

11 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 2

OP, PLEASE do a "Offensive version" of these experiences! PLEASE!!1

11 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 1

The best part about your comment is your name haha.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

but i tried so hard to be unoffensive! ill see what i can do

11 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 1

People really do not get their phones back?

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Why would you try to explain mating to elementary school kids anyway??

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Which nature center is this? Planning on visiting Texas!

11 years ago | Likes 30 Dislikes 2

Am IN Texas! Do tell!

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

In the same boat! I love nature and being told about stuff!

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Oooooh visit the one in brazosport! I live in the house across the river!

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

i was actually there about 3 weeks ago haha

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

cool! X-D i go there all the time to fish.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Cheetos are natural in my world.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Whenever I hear "cormorant", all I can think of is Tina-rannosaurus Wrecks

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

It's so sad people would vandalize a nature center... Is there anywhere we could donate to the center you work at?

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

not now, but the best thing you could do would be to visit, if you can

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

What is the name of the center?

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm really confused by the professor one. I thought this was a WALKING nature tour, did he sleep while walking around behind you?

11 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I was also confused as to if it was the professor or you, my guess was the professor but I wasn't sure.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Probably done on a boat for that one

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

he was on a boat tour

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

There is a special place in hell if it exists for people who vandalize nonprofit organization buildings.

11 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 2

It's a good thing you qualified that comment with "nonprofit", cause.. People might've gotten the wrong idea.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I despise vandals, period. I don't care what they damage.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

the worst were the boats. they are antiques.

11 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I hate people :( We had someone vandalize the local animal shelter a few months ago. They killed over 70 animals

11 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

o my god, i am so sorry, that is terrible. i feel horrible for being like... my boats, they're damaged!

11 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Its ok, they got caught, and are currently serving a 3 year sentence for it, and looking at about 400 hours of community work after that.

11 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

good. but they deserve worse. why would they kill the animals?! i dont understand!

11 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

I wish you still worked there, OP. It sounds like you really loved and cared about that job, despite the bigotry.

11 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

i really did, i loved it and i miss it every day. But I also love not being homeless.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I just don't get this "not mentioning sex" thing you Americans have. What are you? Living in the 19th century?

11 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

#2. You'll offend the Last Tuesdayists who believe the world was created Last Tuesday and the 19th century didn't exist.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

This is something that the youngest generations of parents, including my own, do not stick to nearly as much as the elders. 1/2.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

2/2 The really sad part is that there are a number of parents who wont talk about it at all except to preach abstinence, which doesn't work.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

edit, my own generation, not my own parents.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I bet that if you say which nature center you work at, you'll get the donations to fix it now!

11 years ago | Likes 228 Dislikes 2

this was a number of years ago, i'm pretty sure they would have fixed everything by now. the best thing you can do is visit :)

11 years ago | Likes 72 Dislikes 1

You commented this on more than one comment

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

But mebbe, just mebbe, we wanna donate anyways.

11 years ago | Likes 60 Dislikes 0

Did they ever find those kids? You mentioned in a different post that the center had cameras.

11 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

we got the cameras because of the vandalism :( director paid out of pocket

11 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

Shit. Ouch. That sucks ...

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

What center is this?

11 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Op Pls

11 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

wow, that last one. how could people do something like that?

11 years ago | Likes 727 Dislikes 3

Probably christians who can't can the truth.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Because some people are bastards, that's why.

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

People suck

11 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Man is the cruelest animal, after all.

11 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Nobody has given the correct answer, yet: Because they can. People enjoy destruction, and if you have inadequate security, you're fucked.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

In an earlier post OP said they had cameras. Let's find who they are and have a good ol' fashionned witch (rather, jackass) burning

11 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 1

the director personally bought those cameras BECAUSE of the vandalism inceident, so there is no recording from the event

11 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 0

Teenagers. Punk ass teenagers.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Some assholes stoned a bunch of ducks to death at a petting zoo in my town a few years ago. I just don't understand why/how people do that.

11 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

What the flying fuck

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

One person broke into a church building here looking for money to buy drugs, but found nothing after breaking every locked office's window.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Because there is no natural selection anymore. Stupid people doin' stupid stuff without any fightback like being eating or killed.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

We had one person vandalise 40 graves in the kids section of a cemetery recently. I simply cannot comprehend how/if some people think.

11 years ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 0

"What were you thinking?! That's right, you WEREN'T."

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I work at a county pool. One time they threw a 200+lb outdoor planter in the pool. Had to close down for a week to clean it up.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

half the post is basically about ignorant inconsiderate people, just add a little more stupid and there you have it.

11 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

People are idiots.

11 years ago | Likes 73 Dislikes 0

*People are vile, vicious animals.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

People are idiot assholes*

11 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

No, it sounds like they knew exactly what they were doing ... which makes them absolute and utter assholes (to put it mildly), not idiots.

11 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 0

To elaborate: You don't vandalize an entire nature center by accident. They *intended* to do that.

11 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

You just don't vandalize a nature center.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Well, apparently you do. Not that it makes it right ...

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

No, some people are just assholes. Who deserve to get their asses kicked.

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Crazy how nature keep evolving, upgrading phones and all dat.

11 years ago | Likes 133 Dislikes 5

They just got 4Algae.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

beauty

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Coming from such a punny name, I feel honored. You're the real MVP.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

"But hermanpunster, evolution is just a made up story, right?"

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Even Jesus evolves.. just wait til he returns in his final form

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Crazy how human behavior keep unevolving, and all dat

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

To something beyond our planet, we're just a part of nature, so in a way, that's true.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Do primary school children really not learn about sex?

11 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

I did in like 3rd grade. It was graphic.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

So did I, grade three here is like 9/10

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

People on here seemed to have skipped class or something.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's just weird thinking other countries don't have decent sex-ed

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I live in the US, we have TONS of sex-ed here. 3-6th grade, and in like 8/9th. It got annoying, not to mention just health classes.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

In America, no. MAYBE in highschool depending on your state, but most of the time it's the internet or an older friend.

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I learned most of it from my parents. I learned very little about it in school, but that's still more than most kids learned.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

murica

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

yeah I learned. On the internet. At 21. Yeah. Homeschooled here. Texas. Dont ask.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

So...where is this magical land of wildlife and stupid people? I wanna go, to watch them both!

11 years ago | Likes 42 Dislikes 1

TEXAS FTW

11 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 1

Your comment about not mentioning evolution made me sad, but this explains it. All I hear from texan friends is... maddening.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

So, will you still be open after Operation Jade Helm being discussed a few slides over :p

11 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

i don't know what you are referencing, i've been trying to answer all the questions and i havent seen the FP since the early morning

11 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Ah, sorry. Just conspiracy-loonies thinking that Obama will take over Texas under the cover of a military exercise ^^

11 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

The POTUS "taking over" one of the states. They're not even trying hard enough on the loony theories, are they?

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

awesome. so im missing nothing.

11 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

I think the college student was just giving you a compliment.

11 years ago | Likes 72 Dislikes 1

i know, but it was a little horrifying how she said it.

11 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 10

Like a normal person?

11 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 7

I didn't know this girl but she spoke exactly like the typical stupid girl from bad chick flicks, it was weird

11 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 8

It's quite reductive to judge her on that.

11 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Sooo you just didn't like her tone or? Because I would be impressed at someone memorizing species. And you're rude in response. Cool.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

If you can't name some very common animal species by heart, then you are an ignorant fool regardless of your education.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 5

Some people dont have good memories. And recalling by heart common species is not exactly important in fact.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Ok but consider this...I could see a bird and say "that's a bluebird!" But I couldnt tell if it's an Eastern, Western, or Mountain bluebird.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Depending on how long you worked there it would still take a pretty good memory. Just like memorizing 200 organic molecules or something.

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Exactly! I think she sounded a bit rude with that response. Sometimes it's hard for people to learn like that.

11 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 2

i apologize, i don't want to appear rude, i know people have trouble with memorization like that, but it was just such a weird thing to say

11 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 6

As a Christian, why wouldn't you talk about mating? Genuinely confused on that point.

11 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 4

In a word: Texas.

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Bro, do you even Texas bro?

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

All the christian school places and stuff I went to didn't walk around it.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The earliest English-speaking settlements in America were founded by Puritans, the most prudish culture to exist. Their ideals carried over.

11 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 2

Ironically now all the Puritan churches are all gay-friendly Unitarian Universalist churches :D

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I fail to see the tie between a strict sexual ethic and learning about mating and reproduction in animals. I've never heard of such a (1)

11 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 5

i will never forget a young religious student seeing lizards going at it and saying "our religion says we aren't supposed to watch that"

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

(2) connection and I'm about as conservative of a Christian as they come :p

11 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 4

Anything sexual was a sin to them, and they figured children should be hidden from any exposure to sin lest they be corrupted.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Gonna need some sources on that. Like I said, I've never encountered anything close to that. It's premarital sexual relations that they (1)

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

Commence the downvotes if you wish.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

A simple google search pulls up a few articles that disprove your point: http://www.challies.com/quotes/the-puritans-and-sex (3)

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

2) condemned; so it's not "anything" sexual. And again, this regards humans, not animals. Got any sources for this?

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

look up how crazy the puritans were, you'll understand soon enough

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

TIL: Humans aren't animals. We're minerals?

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

"We try very hard to offend people." I know it's a typo, but I'd enjoy it.

11 years ago | Likes 2063 Dislikes 4

their being offended offends me

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

"Even those turtles are going at it faster than your dad can, Jimmy."

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Ugh. #2 reminds me that I am part of a group of stuffy haters. Can't we learn to disagree without being disagreeable? Also, science.

11 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I was confused why OP wouldn't bring it up then

11 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

Probably for legal reasons.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I know pages on the internet where that would become stock motto

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

"If you look over her, this is the perfect place for you to go fuck yourself"

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

"That's the Hitler fish. Judging by your nose, I suggest you stay away from it."

11 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

hahaha! I'm secretly scrolling through imgur while in a lecture. My audible laughter made it not so secret

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

This is why I could never work here. Oh you want to lie to your kids about reproduction, evolution, the absolute and irrefutable 1/2

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

age of the earth? Don't bring them into the public then. 2/2

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

"Here's a fucking fish, you little shits. Now fuck off."

11 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Dick's Last Nature Resort.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Offend? Im just not gonna touch this one. Because if i do im gonna rant and when I rant i get mad

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

If that were a real place I would go, just to see it. I'm sure it would be amusing.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'd pay extra for the offensive tour

11 years ago | Likes 573 Dislikes 1

"Yeah, it's a fish. Fuck you."

11 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

One time I went on a tour of a dam. The tour guide got a lot of mileage out of that. "Welcome to the dam tour. I'll be your dam tour guide."

11 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 0

"And if you fat fucks turn your blubber necks over there you can see a creature evolving."

11 years ago | Likes 87 Dislikes 0

Laughing so hard right now.

11 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

"Critters have been doing this for thousands of years, not that I'd expect your ignorant uneducated assess to know anything about that."

11 years ago | Likes 56 Dislikes 1

"whats that bird?" "ha! you dont know what that is? you dumbarse."

11 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

I know its terrible, but that sounds awesome. "Oh thats such a beautiful bird!!" *Tour guide shoots it*

11 years ago | Likes 287 Dislikes 0

God I would pee my pants laughing.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

This episode of the Nature of Things is brought to you by George R. R. Martin.

11 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 0

I laughed. I literally genuinely laughed. Thank you for that comment.

11 years ago | Likes 58 Dislikes 0

I am to please. Both in the digital world and in the bathroom

11 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

I'm actually laughing at this scenario.

11 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Here's another beautiful bird! *Tour guide flips off the guests.*

11 years ago | Likes 84 Dislikes 0

I shall consider this option... for reasons that have no relation to world domination, of course.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

GAH IM TERRIBLE

11 years ago | Likes 451 Dislikes 1

you're hilariously terrible

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

*triggered*

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

2) why parents have such a hard time with their kids knowing sex and death exist. Kids honestly don't care and understand it easily. My

11 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 1

you're a great person OP

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I honestly give you credit, I couldn't do your job without smashing my head in after hearing some of that crap. Plus I don't understand

11 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

You seem to know your shit and that you love working the lake. Good for you, OP!

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Hey think of it this way... At least you HAVE to work very hard to offend people... Just comes natural for me=D

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

GAHHH

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I have a question. Why the fuck would you go somewhere during mating season and not be ready for an explanation? I'd be offended by it

11 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

i agree with you. most parents i dealt with would not though.

11 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Completely off-topic, where are you located? I could use a good nature-ifying and your preserve sounds awesome

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Good thing I'm not a tour guide... Those kids would learn like I did about what's actually going on, none of this mamby pamby bullshit. SEX!

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

3) parents told me about sex at age 4. Its almost as if "childhood innocence" doesn't actually exist and its BS parents project onto kids

11 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 2

"You've watched HBO, you know what happens." And that's how I got "the talk"

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's childhood "Ignorance", not "innocence". No child is innocent.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I've never heard anyone use "ignorance" to refer to it. maybe they do where you are from, but not where I am

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

No. I was correcting the phrase, not the people using the phrase.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah offend the christian schools ;)

11 years ago | Likes 48 Dislikes 19

i only went to Catholic schools growing up and they taught us ... drumroll please... wait for it... all about evolution!!!

11 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

Yeah, a lot of non-Catholics erroneously believe the Church still condemns Evolution; that changed a long time ago.

11 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

I try to respect people's religion and stuff, but it must be strange to just go "ha, such a funny story" every time someone says the E-word

11 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 3

Evolution is the word you are looking for

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Respect people, not any bullshit they spout.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It baffles me that people think that way. Maybe it's just because I was brought up by a conservative mother that encouraged learning and

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

science. Many times I'd come home from school to books on biology and paleontology and we went to lots of museums and parks.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It is really sad when scientific fact is reduced to an opinion because of a religious agenda.

11 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 5

It's sad that I'm among the rare few Christians that does accept science-based facts. Heck, most scientists are religious in some way.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 8

Yeah, I hardly think you're rare.

11 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Well most may be a hard claim. But I do believe most Christians accept evolution as truth, it's just that those that don't are very loud.

11 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

True, I'll amend my statement then. Nevertheless, it's aggravating.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

1) I was raised very religious and was so annoyed by the maliciously stupid way people implemented it because it felt like something I felt

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

2) to be very sacred to me was being taken away. Even as an atheist now I still argue for the majority of theists being very rational people

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Its sad that christians are stereotyped for being ignoramt when many are well educayed and believe in or even love science.

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 5

I agree. In my experience as a Christian and later as an atheist I found people who aggressively mock religion don't understand it very well

As a Christian, please do. Those kids don't need to spend 18 years in an echo chamber.

The irony of this comment on this site is palpable.

we were too scared to lose their business. we were barely holding on.

11 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

kids. It's bad for the faith too. 2/2

11 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

What if you said, "evolution may be a myth to some people just like how God is a myth to other people"? Would that be offensive?

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

To a reasonable person? No. To anyone with a kid you have to say that to, probably....

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yeah I can see that especially in Texas. I just have a bit of a sore spot on being lied to growing up myself. It's not just bad for the 1/2

11 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 1

kids future and critical thinking skills, it's also bad for the elves. They draw their magical power from faith. 2/2

We spent so long just trying to make enough money to maintain the boats and pay the staff... we did things we werent proud of.

*imagines nature-guide porno shoot to pay the bills*

You need to set up a donation link or something, I'm sure people would want to help

11 years ago | Likes 1167 Dislikes 8

Do you want the Imgur hug of death? Because that's how you get the Imgur hug of death.

11 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Seen as OP is being too humble ; https://donate.txstate.edu/meadows

This needs more upvotes!

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Awesome

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

this was a number of years ago, i'm pretty sure they would have fixed everything by now. the best thing you can do is visit :)

11 years ago | Likes 356 Dislikes 0

If you don't live in TX visit your own local Nature Centers! We would all love lots of visitors year round. (WI)

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Yeah, but the time/money spent on fixing things could have been spent on improving things instead. I'm sure people would donate for that.

11 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

where in Texas is this? I'm in Louisiana so I would enjoy going.

11 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Then how about a donation link for the park for a watch tower with a watch-guard with a loaded rifle? for "safety" and such of course.

11 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Seriously OP, you keep telling us to visit and don't tell us the name. A little more than just Texas please!!!!!

11 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Plenty of people would still love to donate! (Including me)

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Yes! Where?! I also live in TX and would totally visit if it's close. Plus aren't you holding an off-book imgur tour?

11 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

um, maybe, yeah, i'd have to get in contact to set it up, but if enough people are interested, sure :D

11 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

Omg! This would be so cool! There are totally enough of us Texans to do this!

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I would be totally interested! I went to college at Texas State and would love to go check it out again! :D

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I'm interested and from what I've seen a few other Texas imgurians are too! Especially if it's manageable driving distance from me!

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I'd rather do this than go to camp imgur. Ughhhh.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I'd be down!

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Where??? I live in texas, so.... which one?

11 years ago | Likes 104 Dislikes 0

I think it was Aquarena springs

11 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

OP even mentioned the antique boats were vandalized too, my bet is glass bottom boats, like at Aquarena...

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It's one of the parks near San Marcos, my best guess is San Marcos Springs.

Meadows Center

11 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

I love going out to naturey places and I'm in south austin, gonna put that on the itinerary for my next day off. :D

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Most of us on here wouldn't live close enough to actually visit, but would want to support the center anyway. A link would definitely help.

11 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 0

Yup, I'd give a buck right now if there were a link present. Fuck anyone that would vandalize such a place.

11 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I don't understand this obsession with protecting children for as long as possible, it's often the most protected individuals who react 1/2

11 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 6

to grease fires by crawling under their beds, curling up into a fetal position, and rocking back and forth while crying. 2/2

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

1/2 most extremely as soon as they escape the protective bubble they've been in

11 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 4

I know what you mean. A lot of adult imgurians are creeped out by Five Nights at Freddy's. My kid siblings love watching videos of it.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

well... yeah. "It makes me uncomfortable, therefore it will make my child even more uncomfortable."

11 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Saw many a freshman dropouts who were so sheltered that they lost their shit once they were around alcohol and drugs

11 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Ditto, the kids who had the over-protective parents went down the hardest-all the sex and all the drugs

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Must start finding girls who had overprotective parents...

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

So you want to exploit them? Yeah, don't be an arse

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I think it's moreso the teachers can protect themselves. Parents can sue if their little Timmy learned something they didn't want.

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I think there's a huge difference between explaining intercourse to a 6 year old vs not discussing it with your 14 year old.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

i agree with that

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yep definitely, there's over-exposure and under-exposure. Of course you can't get it perfect but there are definite lines to draw from

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Exactly. I dont have kids but I'd rather not have sex explained to my 6 year old on a field trip. If the topic comes up, I'll discuss it.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

As a cave guide we have to do the same for christian groups. Whatdaya mean this bedrock is 350 million years old???

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Frankly, I think it's absurd to wash away well-established fact out of fear of 'offending' people. Where on earth will that take us?

11 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

When those in charge of the country are denying well established facts, it's hard for local guides to get into that discussion. Sad state.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

It's quite scary actually, keeping a nation under the boundaries of ignorance really just increases our vulnerability to everything else
