I think rhino horn should be legal, but you have to kill it with your bare hands
Laylah77
I hope this is true!
risiblewilbury123456
"Source"... "facebook"...
Numero34
Hope this works
Pepper2332
Too bad it's too late
manslut
Genetic fingerprint eh? We printing that DNA now?
Telharmonius
Murdercorns are so rare now, that there can't possibly be much real horn left on the market. If they print them, it's to sell them.
hockeyham
I wonder if they'll do the same for human horn.
Munchman347
Got to include a chemical that gives them 'Limp Dick' for months. Trade will stop in weeks...
wolfebane42
Are... are they using evil economics and mad science in an act of almost pure good? Thank you world, I needed that.
YusoBF
Or would it just make poachers kill more in order to get the same amount of money.
BrokeMyFunnyBone
That would be assuming the poachers aren't already trying their hardest to make as much money as they can now
overpolitemidwesterner
Save the danger unicorns!
mormacil
Plan is heavily criticized because it makes finding actual poached rhino horns impossible who still have a market that trusts them.
ArdentSlacker
Yep. Selling fakes just makes the real shit easier to hide WAY more than it hurts the market for the insanity.
NotAnEvilRobotGatheringInfoToDestroyHumanity
They should ad a chemical that actually makes it an aphrodisiac. It Will then sell better than real rhino horn and make millions.
00tj
1. How the fuck could they carry a genetic finger print 2. How the fuck would any one on the black market know?
DarthGibbon
Why not just equip rhinos with battle armour and a squad of tactical army monkeys?
JossWhedonsGhost
I don't think Facebook is a source.
luckintheleftovers
If that's their plan, I feel like they should have kept that secret so buyers don't know there are "fakes" when they flood the market...
DrOsmium
Hopefully they can do this for Pangolins too
WhyCannotWeBeFriends
They didn’t mention the fact that the prime material, for the printer, is rhino horn.
pallentx
A lot of the market for this is actually Vietnam, more even than China.
ThomsonI
I don't think another country getting screwed will stop China from developing industry, esp. if other countries applaud the effort.
Docholidayistheman
Do you listen to sceptoid?
pallentx
No, I just came across an article a while back about it
Docholidayistheman
Oh ok they did an episode on this I’ve never heard anyone else talk about the Vietnam connection. It’s worth a listen if you are interested
Thesteveadin
just in time to save the northern white rhinos! ...wait
ThatWillBuffOut
More than 90% of “rhino horns” in circulation are already fake (buffalo horn or wood), but poaching rates continue to rise annually.
willi828
Maybe, but flooding the market will lower the cost, making it not worth the risk of poaching
LongoTwoguns
Saddest part of the black panther was that they had to use cgi for all of the rhinos, even the scene when they were standing in the pen.
HobbitHouse
I'm not sure it's sad that they didn't round up rhinos and hold them captive for the movie.
GoldenRamoth
the Southern rhino dropped to a couple hundred individuals, and is now up to 20K+. So there is some hope. And CGI instead of abuse is good!
giveittomestraightlikeapearcidermadefrom100percentpears
I dunno.. That sounds quite standard to me. It's like in The Revenant, there weren't any real animals.. All the pigs and the deers all CGI'd
frankxcid
I like sciencee words that don't actually mean anything. Rhinohorns are the Same material as hair and nails which don'thave genetic material
BrokeMyFunnyBone
Rhino horns do contain genetic material https://phys.org/news/2017-07-rhino-dna-horns-quicker-poachers.html
HobbitHouse
ya, how do you 3-d print genetic material? that's nonsense.
BrokeMyFunnyBone
It's called bio-printing.
GhostsofRazgriz
Keratin with rhino blood duh, how dare you question the almighty IFLScience you antivaxxing, climate change denying, binary gender preaching
GhostsofRazgriz
...scum

LexiaStark
Thanks for a useful link!
HoneyBunchesOfStoats
for anyone who needs a tl:dr; flooding the market with fake rhino horn is a nice idea but in practice it makes the problem worse.
CrystalToucher
Yeah, you can't 3d print genes
Undeadmushroom
Exactly! I was like wtf did I miss something?
ChaosandChaos
Yet
RatoMolhado
Well, it's been a year. Any news on 3d printed fake rhino horns? Was it already used in porn?
MerToo
Rule 34 applies and anything is a dildo if you're brave enough.
WallpaperProblems
I wanna know also
EggsMayhem
Yes, it's fake.
TheWombatStrikesAgain
You obviously never saw "Horn-y Bitches of Southern Africa", "Serengettin' Busy", or "Full Body Penetration VII".

+1 for Serengettin' Busy

Can't tell if you are extremely witty or just a porn addict...

Too late. Black Rhino - Extinct. White Rhino - there are 3 left. 3. It's over and the rhinoceros lost.
eggmuffin
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_rhinoceros#Conservation Don't make shit up.
Pepper120
This is a bit of an exaggeration. Certain sub species of black rhinos are extinct, but not all black rhinos. Similarly for the white ones.
Pepper120
Some subspecies are worse off than others.
briham86
3 subspecies of black rhino are extinct. Around 5K of other subspecies remain. Only 3 Northern white rhinos remain; southern subspecies ~20K
briham86
I mean, it's still pretty bad, but don't give up hope and don't stop fighting. It's not too late for the rhinos.
UnpopularOpinionPuffinPersonified
From what I understand the populations left are not big enough or genetically diverse enough to ever grow the population beyond endangered.
CandidGamera
Neither is your family and we still keep you alive.
UnpopularOpinionPuffinPersonified
Never even insinuated we shouldn't keep protecting them.
