Two years ago today, when my mother asked where the $1500 I had taken out in less than two weeks had gone, I had no more lies. Thankfully I didn't, because in that moment, unbeknownst to me, that chapter of powerlessness and despair was ending. I checking into a long term treatment center. Groups, cooking, cleaning, book work, and therapy. It's been the most difficult and rewarding two years of my life. If you struggle with addiction, it is very possible to overcome it. It's hard but it can be done with help. It was the best decision I ever made. My life has changed, all for the better.

tl,dr I'm two years sober today!!

I always upvote sobriety. Congratulations, partner. Steady as she goes.

Great job! I have several family members who are addicted. Only one has gotten clean, one has died. It hurts to see loved ones refuse help.

It's nice to see people coming together in support of one of their own, rather than shitting on them for being "less than human".

Congrats, but don't let it get to your head. The 2 year itch is real. Don't forget that recovery never ends. Do it for mom, do it for you!

I admire your strength. And if no one has told you yet today, I am proud of you.

I've been an addict for about 6 years now, not to blame anything or anyone but Iraq took a toll on me mentally. I'm now clean, but not..(1)

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

(2) i now have been on suboxene for a few years, i know it's a substitute and it's hard to say I'm totally clean, but i do feel better

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

(3) taking the med. If you take it responsibly it's an effective way to treat opiod addiction, just be careful not to fall into a trap

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Good work friend! I just recently made 2.5years clean. It's a lot of work but our lives our worth it, keep it up!

9 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

Same here. I had to do subox though because I couldn't cut cold turkey. I hope people know this is an option too. On h 2.5 years.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I tried doing it alone, doing it in hospital, doing methadone (show up daily), and doing AA/NA, finally outpatient sub was right for me.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Best piece of advice I can give is get away from people that use/cut contact. It's impossible to stay sober if it's readily available IMO.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Did you really need the emotional support or family or was the tipping point mostly your own decision? Sister of a drug abuser asking.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The help and support I got from family and friends

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It was both, I knew that I hated what I'd become and wanted to change. I wouldn't have been able to stay clean, however, without 1/2

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

How? Im addicted to my pain killers and i cant stand what ive become. Im a mom,and i work full time and i want out so badly but dont knw how

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I quit cold turkey after weenie down for a week. I lost my job, had to move back home and cut ties with all my using buddies 1/2

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Weening* lol...

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You CAN do it, it won't be easy but you will find a way! I'm always here if you have any questions.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

After that it was a matter of staying involved in a program. It's important to set up a support system early and rely on it 2/3

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

If you can afford it and can't cut cold turkey I strongly suggest suboxone outpatient treatment. 2.5 years off H.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

If your biggest hurdle is physical withdrawl then I think this is the best option. Then ween off the subs at your own pace.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ive went cold turkey before but i wasnt as bad then. I told myself 4 days of withdrawl and it was. Im terrified to even admit

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I have a problem. Im terrified theyll take my son so i wouldnt know how to go about the subs

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Who's they? I suggest looking up a doctor who is licensed to administer suboxone in your area. It's usually called a "health clinic".

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Congrats, @OP!!! Would give you two upvotes if I could; this is truly something to be proud of!

9 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 2

First downvote, then upvote. You'll feel more important

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 3

It actually isn't.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 18

Dude fuck off. From someone who lost their Father to drugs be happy for this guy, because they had the balls to man up and get right. Prick

9 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 1

I think it's more proud worthy to never have had drugs. I am sorry for your father, but who does drugs knows the effects. 1/2

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Their fault giving up their life to it, not mine, not anyone else. Nothing to be proud.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0
