You might see the political rigmarole is exhausting or unproductive, fine. I can get that. But it doesn't make you a positive person, in and of itself, because you don't want to be a part of it and it doesn't make you a negative person to think it's beneficial to participate in it.

We need people to challenge, respectfully. And discuss, respectfully. Democrats who are uncertain about civil liberties are not inherently "negative" and neither are Republicans who believe that to be an exaggeration. The "negative" people are calling liberals "snowflakes" or calling conservatives "Nazis."

can I call everyone Nazi snowflakes? They're shaped like SS symbols superimposed on the rotated swastika.

Sometimes you gotta because mental health ...

I'm not positive, but I'm also not annoyed.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

For the record, I'm down voting you for the title. I agree with your sentiment.

I agree, OP. And this is an actually unpopular opinion, too, so have two upvotes.

9 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 8

Mentioning downvotes?

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

This is the primary weapon of the alt right. By discrediting those people with political opinions the fascists stay in power.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

We can’t disconect from politics, the show goes on with or without our acknowledgement of the effects in our lives

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

By that statement you can disconnect though. Because you know, the show goes on.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I've seen people try to claim rebellion in apathy; apathy is the opposite of rebelliousness and it's how you get fucked later on.

9 years ago | Likes 28 Dislikes 4

And how you get fucked with your pants on.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm tired of the political posts because I'm not american and that's it.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I think disconnecting is how we end up with guys like trump

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Yeah, kind of the opposite. Just someone who believes that their voice means nothing.

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 2

Agreed, politicians are the most ambitious weasels of mankind, if there's a way my opinion can be taken out of the equation, they've done it

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Hey, I have a pet weasel. Are you calling all weasels politicians? I take offense to that.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

When I disconnected, it made me a better person and I used my time more effectively.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Connecting to politics also doesn't mean you're helping. Some people just spread shit everywhere and others are stepping in it.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 3

The problem is that people want a break every now and again, I used to be more active in this political shit, but when people started-

9 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 5

-forcing it into places like imgur 24/7 the entire discussion just becomes a nuisance because the people claiming to be noble refuse to-

9 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 5

-allow anyone some quiet time, which just results in people who are annoyed at all the good causes out there

9 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 3

Civil disobedience is what democracies were built on. An engaged citizenry is such a positive sign

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

If the democracy is built on civil disobedience doesn't that mean the democracy didn't exist before the disobedience?

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

Technically, you could trace back civil disobedience to pre-Athens era when Democracy started.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

But it makes me a far less negative person

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

gonna get downvoted because youre wrong. disconnecting from subjects which displease you will make you a more positive, if less well>

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

>informed, person. Fact.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I am calling nazis nazis. Most conservatives aren't, but half of Trump's circle are white supremacists.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I'd say disconnecting for politics in televised news is a long step away from negativity at the least.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

...yeah but NOT on a goddamned site that's main intention is to laugh and have fun. With cats or bad memes and the like.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 4

I don't think that most conservatives are "Nazis", but there are a few who actually are (including the guy who got punched twice).

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

(And there are a whole crap-ton of snowflakes on both sides. Put on your big boy underwear/big girl panties, people!)

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

No - it makes me happy

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

being a positive person makes you a positive person...

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Unless you are not American and you've had enough

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 6

I'm not American, and I still think the discussion is important. America's actions don't just affect America.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 3

The site is founded by Americans and mostly American. If it was mostly Swedish, I would understand people discussing Ikea and snow drifts.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 3

People also need a break from the shitshow.

9 years ago | Likes 198 Dislikes 18

You reap what you sow, sadly that means that America gets to enjoy a shitshow.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

"The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is that good [people] do nothing."

9 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 3

If you need a break, watch a movie, do the dishes, read a book, rub one out. Don't complain that the world keeps turning on your breaktime

9 years ago | Likes 41 Dislikes 11

Call the Shitehouse (I accidentally hit the "S" instead of the "W" and I thought it fitting)

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 8

I think breaking from the shit show has gotten us here.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

No disrespect, but that that statement can only come from a person living in the first world. Just saying.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 3

True but people also need to take care of themselves so they can keep on fighting the good fight. Otherwise they will get tired and not care

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I think this is as important as the duty to demand and consume public interest information

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

People taking breaks from the shit show is why the shit show continues.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I dunno. Low voter turnout was a big factor in how we got here. Maybe it needs to be shoved in peoples faces more.

9 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 7

Lobby for compulsory voting. It's the only way to get a true mandate.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Also having more than two parties, both staunchly neoliberal, would likely help.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yes absolutely, multiple parties are important, and make gerrymandering illegal.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

True, but if you don't like political posts just don't click on them. No need to leave a comment about how dumb they are.

9 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 12

Not clicking on them doesn't help with the stress

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 12

Stressed about what?

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Current events, shit can just get to be a bit too much for some people

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Watch a movie! Kick a ball! There are a near infinite number of things you could do without fear of political chat.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

I want to clarify something: liberals aren't calling all conservatives nazis. We're calling the alt-right nazis. Because they are.

9 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

The alt-right and the far left are both actual nazis. They are exactly the same. What we need are more moderates from both parties.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

No. The alt-right literally promotes white supremacy. The far left does not.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

And the far left literally promotes white hatred. Two wrongs don't make a right.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

Also: The left doesn't promote white hatred. Some may go too far for diversity, but not like how the alt-right is built on white supremacy.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

I don't think you understand what a fucking nazi is.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

I'm pretty sure I do. Barring people from speaking at campuses, and making judgements about someone based on the color of their skin 1/2

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

2/2 makes you a fucking nazi. I don't agree with anything the right says or does, but in this country they have the right to say it.

Not voting is a side tbh fam smh

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Be helpful if there were sides you could actually take, instead of just voting on idpol values.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

And sometimes you just say "screw it I am sick of all the bullcrap"

9 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 11

This assumes there are always clear good and bad sides.

9 years ago | Likes 31 Dislikes 3

Maybe not always, but today there is

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 5

There are in US politics. That's pretty much the only saving grace of the system, it's nice and simple. One side isn't necessarily right (1)

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 6

all the time, but you can generally rely on the other being wrong. (2)

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 5

I generally disconnect because the people I'm forced to be around are offended by anything that isn't what they believe.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Calling everyone "offended" who cares is more my experience.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Not when it's an "I'm right, you're wrong" mentality. I can discuss both sides with my roommate perfectly fine. Some people though.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm on both sides of this issue - my opinion is my opinion because I believe it to be right. So I definitely have that mentality. (1/2)

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

On the other hand, I have no problem having peaceful discussions with people who disagree with me, mostly. (I have trouble with fascists)

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm all for peaceful discussion, honestly. I just can't stand people that complain about Dijon mustard for hours. To each their own (1/2)

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I won't disparage anyone for their believes, but I'm not a fan of them being forced upon me, ya know?
