They’re not allowed to be outdoor cats, but this is the next best thing!

Front Page Edit:
For everyone wondering, the reason why our cats aren't allowed outside is because we live in an area with foxes and coyotes, so predators are a real concern. We're also by a semi-busy road, so cars pose a problem, too. We only set up the tent/tunnel system when we're around and can keep an eye on things; the cats are never left out there unattended.

Thank u for keeping ur kitties indoor

I like it.

Props for keeping your kitter cats safe and letting them have some fresh air!

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 2

Great job guarding the cats OP! City indeed is not a place for a cat to roam free

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Your cats are pretty in tents.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I wouldn't say spoiled, but more safe. That is really a fantastic idea! It keeps them safe and they can chitter at the birds as they go by.

They walk single file to hide their numbers!

ha

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I might have to do something like this.

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

Also: house cats kill an incredible amount wildlife needlessly. In some places they even wiped whole populations out

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Not shown: Roadrunner nearby in case of coyotes. OP's got it covered.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

My cat would just shred that thing. Would last an hour, tops.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I considered doing that for our cats. They'll have to settle for the screen porch though. Reason our cats are indoor cats: $4000 vet bill.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

They also get walkies out in the yard on a leash a couple of times a week if the weather is nice.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

That looks great! My cat would love this!

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Cats are never spoiled. There's a guy in UK who gutted his house to build tunnels and sleepers for his cats. He sleeps on a pullout sofa.

8 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 2

i read "gutted his horse" :|

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Poor horse.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Those are happy cats.

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 2

This is really neat! My cats would love this, and it’s much easier than building something.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

My cat would rip that to pieces :(

8 years ago | Likes 35 Dislikes 1

So would a coyote.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

We don't have coyotes where I live, so that's not a concern :)

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

So would the foxes and coyotes that stop them going outside...

8 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 5

I doubt that the lucky cats have access to it at night when foxes and coyotes would be a threat.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Correct. We only set up the tunnel/tent during the day when we are home and able to supervise. The cats are never out there unattended!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

My cat is an indoor cat as well... I’ll see about getting this for her spoiled booty.

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Hahahaha! Look at those poor stupid indoor cats!

It's a good joke. Keep trying with it and it will pay off.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Listen, I love, love, LOVE the concept, but I agree with those who raised concerns regarding fleas and coyotes. But super-cool otherwise!

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Our yard is fenced and they are never let out unsupervised, so I don’t really worry about the coyotes. As for the fleas... we haven’t (1/2)

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Good on ya, eggsterminate! Your cats are lucky to have such a thoughtful caretaker!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Aw, thanks! They’re a pretty great bunch, so I do my best to make them happy. :)

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

(2/2) any problems, but I’ll get them on a preventative/treatment, should the need ever arise!

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

+1 for responsible cat ownership

8 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 3

This has nothing to do with "responsible ownership". This is insanity!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

Because pets are not wildlife & it’s incredibly irresponsible to allow your pets to roam free...

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Cats can be stolen, hurt by larger wildlife, kill off smaller local wildlife or use neighbors’ yards as litter boxes...

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

At least they won't kill local wildlife

8 years ago | Likes 64 Dislikes 17

That's a serious concern: https://www.nature.com/articles/ncomms2380

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Or die in a ditch next to a car road.

8 years ago | Likes 30 Dislikes 4

So like, did you once poop marbles?

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Nay, it's a quote from a comic. Well, I think I ate some marbles as a kid so...maybe?

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

typically when someone has 2+ cats they spoil em...

8 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

That explains why I built a screened cat porch as soon as I moved. I have three cats.

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

I did too with a kitty door going out from window so they can get out there. I keep the litter boxes out there. Keeps the stink out of house

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

How many cats? And I love your username :)

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Thx! And 3

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I want to do this! Unfortunately the porch opens from a slider. No good area to put cat-door. I prop the door open when weather permits.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Ours is a slider also. We just attached the cat door to a board and put that in the hole. Doesn't look the greatest but it works!

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I see from next comment that this is in a window - yes, that would work well. Fortunately weather here is nice 9/12 months, so door works!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

And ours is a window that is above our dryer. Not a sliding door

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

You're awesome, man. I would love to be able to do this...but I would not trust that mesh/screen to keep in my/a cat.

8 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

You would be surprised! I think the mesh is made out of some crazy newfangled material; it's basically indestructible.

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Where can I buy? This is exactly what I've been looking for for mine!

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

You can buy online! Company is ABO Gear. Tunnel is the “fun run” (I have multiples tunnels zipped together), tent is the “happy habitat” 1/

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

There’s also an option on Amazon with the tent and one tunnel. I don’t have that link, but someone else posted it in their comment! (2/2)

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The other Cats laugh at them.

8 years ago | Likes 373 Dislikes 15

The other cats probably have feline aids though so...

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

Just before they're eaten, I presume. Or run over.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 3

But they laugh at other cats when coyotes show up

8 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

It’s true we...they...do

8 years ago | Likes 128 Dislikes 0

Obviously not a kitty.

8 years ago | Likes 40 Dislikes 0

Obviously.

8 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

but i am a dildo

8 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 3

Who needs a dildo when you got a shriveled scrotum

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Obviously

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Correct. I'm just curious how u type. You hop? Or u bang your head on the keyboard?

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It maybe wasn't your intent, but you're also protecting native birds and other wildlife by keeping your cuddly killers controlled. +1

8 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 2

Ha haha I get it, intent cuz the cats are in a tent

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm glad someone wrote this. In Australia, cats are always the predator, never the prey. Lot's of endangered/extinct species because of it

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

In Australia? Where everything can kill a person? There's nothing that kills cats? Maybe they are gods.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Where and how much?

8 years ago | Likes 200 Dislikes 4

Where can I get one!

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I got it at a local pet supply store, but I think you can find the stuff online. It’s a modular system that zips together. (1/2)

8 years ago | Likes 107 Dislikes 1

(We have several “fun run” tunnels zipped together, which is why our tunnel looks so long!)

8 years ago | Likes 80 Dislikes 1

Each section of "fun run" is about $50. OP here has at least 5, so roughly $250 for the tube and $70 for the tent.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I have the tent and 2 tubes from Amazon, about half that price. My cats love them more than anything.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Thanks that’s awesome. And...you guys just cost me $150 bc my cats have to have this.

8 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Thank you!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Ugh there goes my money and they ain't even my cats. Happy cats happy gf

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

The tunnel is the “fun run,” the tent is the “happy habitat.” I don’t remember the price off the top of my head. Sorry!

8 years ago | Likes 127 Dislikes 2

.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Thank you! I am in a similliar situation, and this is a fantastic idea!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

$80 total via amazon

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

Thanks

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I commend you for doing this . Thank you . The local birds thank you as well

8 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 2

Fuck the birds

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 3

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

How do you attach it to the house? I would love to build something like this for my two!

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

We just have it going out our sliding glass door. The end of the tunnel is secured in a square plastic housing that the door closes on (1/2)

8 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

(2/2) and we have a tall piece of plexiglass on top of the square plastic so that the cats can’t jump over and out.

8 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Thank you! Smart solution!

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

One of my favorite internet qoutes. "I wish to be reincarneted as a dog one day. Owned by a white family. Somewhere in Maine maybe."

8 years ago | Likes 872 Dislikes 13

Why not Quahog?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I would be happy coming back as one of op cats.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

So are we talking like, northern Maine, though, or what?

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

As someone in Maine, I can conform its the best place for Doggos. All the space and Sticks everywhere.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

We have the best cats too

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Just hope you don't meet them at a pet cemetery.

To the sensitive people downvoting, he's referencing Stephen King... the author from Maine.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I'm about to move to Maine! Now if I could just become a dog...

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

I lived in Maine for 3 years. It was lovely but the people were not interested in making friends with new comers.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Enjoy the taxes and the snow.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Eeesh. I just looked that up. I didn't know how high they were. I've had a lot going on before the move, and haven't done my homework. Haha.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I think there's some websites that can help with that...

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

clint eastwood grimacing.gif

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I live there. Buy a Shovel, buy some Ice cleats on Amazon, get a good coat. We sell our Booze in the supermarket, there are no liquor stores

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

I've heard about the shovel and the coat, but not the ice cleats... I'm going to be so out of my element. I'm from Oklahoma. Haha.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If there is anything at all you want to know feel free to msg me. Born and Raised here as well as spending time living in other states.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thank you! I might!

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Well, you could acquire friends and share a blunt with them. That would make you a dawg.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

True. But I'm not sure about Maine's laws on weed? From what I understand, it's kind of an interesting mix of liberal and conservative.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Is white just supposed to be shorthand for upper middle class, or is there some race thing I don't know about going on here?

8 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 3

As a white person, our is treated better than most people. Cooked wet food, walks or hikes daily, sleeps in bed. No stress or expectations.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

As a white person, from what I understand we are viewed as odd by other races for our close/familial relationships with animals

8 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 2

I don't understand why, animals have feelings too

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Thank you Walt Disney

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Doesn’t feel good to get racially profiled, huh? I kid I kid

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's not even that for one. I just don't understand why people don't see animals as living beings with their own minds. Just as blank things
