It happened in the city of Zlatoust where it gets rather cold in the winter. It was -35 C (-31 F) during filming. Zlatoust is also the place of the famous Chelyabinsk meteor event of 2013: http://i.imgur.com/fBcdJIh.gif

A local couple found the cat near their house. They poured hot water on her paws trying to thaw them.

Poor kitty waiting for the next bucket.

Her back paws were frozen the most.

It took several runs, but finally it worked! The kitty was wrapped in and rushed home.

And this is the kitty now with a new owner. The paws are are healed! A happy furry cat.

Apparently, she sneaked under the parked car to warm up, but got frozen during the night. If you live in a cold area, do check under your car sometimes. Maybe there's a stray pet snuggled up.

We have a little orange tabby that chases my boyfriend around Wish we could catch him and bring him in because its so cold outside

Somthing similar happened with a dog in my neighborhood two years ago, we live in Edmonton.

I fucking cried when I read this. Poor Kitty. I love cats so much tbh. They make me so happy. And I was like "poor baby" q.q

That kitty shivering and helpless just punted me right in my feels.

Cats must be very resistant to cold. I've read so many stories of cats and kittens being frozen and making a full recovery

I think it's the fur. They're native to semi-arid climates, and I bet having insulating fur is just as important for high heat.

Thanks for the follow-up one with it's recovery. I saw the first story posted two days ago and I was really worried if it might lose a limb.

Breaks my heart the way kitty looks resigned to her fate in the first gif. Glad she was saved! She's gorgeous.

cats are sweet when they need help, otherwise...

Thank you for helping her!

Having lived out in the boonies, I made a habit of banging on my car's hood before starting it. Little bastards find crawl spaces inside.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I thought it was a dogs head at first. Though I can't find the comment I normally upvote that agrees

If you live in a cold region, please whack your car hood several times before starting your engine. Cats crawl up there for warmth. :-(

I live in South Florida, same problem just do it in general

I once owned a cat in my childhood house. With my mother we were driving to the grocery store but we kept hearing meows. Sure enough, 1/2

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

we pulled over and checked. My cat was under the car inside hitching a ride unwillingly, don't know how he got out of the house. 2/2

Noooo we have elderly cats that live in our neighborhood, now I'm going to be making sure they're not under the car. Thanks for the tip!

Oh my god, the gif loading f***ed me up. The second one rendered with blood red water at first. Thought they'd ripped its paws off or smthng

From Russia with love.

We got one of our cats because somebody found it under their hood when they took it in for an oil change.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

It survived? Tough kitty!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Also knock on your hoods, people. Wild/stray cats will curl up in the engine compartment to keep warm. Knocking can scare them out.

what breed of cat is that, I took in a stay about three weeks ago and they are identical furry twins. Vet had no idea on breed, anybody ?

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

It's normally defined as "moggy" cat. A generic mixed breed - strays mix with purebred for generations, losing the specific breed features.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Mixed breed cat : A domestic short-haired cat or domestic long-haired cat of no particular breed, colloquially called a "moggy" ~Wikipedia ©

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

There are several breeds that look like this cat, including Maine Coon, Norwegian Forest Cat, and Siberian Forest Cat.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

A cat w/o breed papers is mixed breed. This cat may come from the same natural "breed" as the Siberian Forest Cat, native to Russia.

Don't wanna sound like an angry facebook mom but isn't hot water kinda dangerous when it's that cold? Cuz normal temp. water can feel 'hot'.

9 years ago | Likes 61 Dislikes 6

Alcohol has a lower freezing point so wouldn't have began icing over again. Would have taken a lot though so warm water works as well

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It will feel hotter than it is but it's not a higher temp so it's not going to actually burn.

9 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 0

It's dangerous too, the rush of warm blood can cause a heart attack. Always warm/cool animals or humans slowly for hypo/hyperthmia

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

@-31 prob needed pretty warm water to not re-freeze instantly. Also,"hot" is relative-since cat is ok,prob used safe temp

9 years ago | Likes 42 Dislikes 0

Pouring water outside when it's -31 doesn't actually freeze fast no matter how cold the water is. But this time it should be warm to melt

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

the frozen stuff around its paws.

Norwegian Forest Cats are the fucking top tier of cats. If that is what they saved, they now have mythical protection.

9 years ago | Likes 83 Dislikes 0

They're great cats. The top tier consists of Mister, though.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Lies, I've got 2 and they are full on derp...

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Given this is Russia, it's probably a Siberian Forest Cat. Little bit smaller, just as rugged.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Norwegian forest cat owner, can confirm

I have that same keyboard. Hate it.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I'm hoping to get a new one for my birthday or Christmas (since they're only 13 days apart)

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm thinking about one of those Logitech mechanical keyboards. Heard they're really good.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Same but mine is blue, I mean it's not that bad but it's not the best

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah. If the bottom row of keys weren't curved like that are I'd be all fine. But the price is what made me get it. And it's comfortable.
