This little ripper is 11-year-old Brayden Belden from Laguna Beach, Ca. On February 20, 2018 he went on a family snowboarding trip to Mt. Bachelor, Oregon.
On his last jump he didn't land properly, hit the back of his head (yes, he was wearing a helmet) and suffered a life-threatening injury. He was lifeless and convulsing. His eyes had rolled to the back of his head and he breathing very shallow. His father started to do CPR until first responders arrived. Brayden was airlifted to the hospital while his parents drove through blizzard like conditions to meet him there.
They were met by a priest and the doctor with the information that their son may only have a couple hours to live. He was placed in a medically induced coma where he remained for the next few weeks.
Things marginally improved bit by bit and he ended up not having to have a piece of his skull removed to relieve pressure. A few days ago Brayden was weened off the medication and woke up. It is unknown if he'll make a full recovery but this little guy is a fighter and one heck of an athlete so I think that his chances are pretty dang good. That little smile at the end!
So if you got a moment or two send out a little thought, prayer, positive energy, an air high-five or whatever it is in your belief system that you'd send to someone hurting. This kid is strong and will be back out surfing in no time. A couple of articles below and a go-fund-me if you want to read more and get updates.

Was at mount bachelor that weekend. Very strange sense community comes from things like these. I've been hoping the best for weeks!

Besides the tragic story I think it’s sad that there has to be a go-fund-me :(

"We’ve created this Go Fund Me page in hopes that they can focus on his care, and not the crushing medical costs they are facing. " FU USA!

I read "one hell of a fighter and an atheist," and wondered, why does that matter? He's a fucking awesome kid, let him be that way onhisown.

Repeat after me, "we accept the risks inherent in the pursuit." And then tear it up! You'll be back little man!

Good luck with the recovery. I too was medevaced from a mountain and put into a coma when I was 13. Be patient, the headaches will go away.

I'm just glad he had a helmet. I dare not consider what would have happened without.
anitamargarita
They said he would have died without it.

It doesn’t take much. Branch falling in the woods clipped my younger brother on the head - he never woke up. Hope this youngster recovers.

Oh my, he reminds we so much of my little 14 year old beach rat/snowboarder. He’s heading to Utah for a week with friends, now I’m nervous!

I go to Mt Bachelor all the time! Sending love to another fellow snowboarder

Sure hope he recovers. The longer the coma often the more challenging but he has life oozing out of him. Be strong chap!!

Yep. As a mom, I cried. One more thing to add to list of things that scare me. Sigh. I just want to hug those parents.

Had my son in a coma when 13 month old due to a traffic accident in which his mom died....now he is 15 y. and all is good! Keep your faith!

I'm so sorry about your wife, I hope you're doing well. Glad your son is okay! :)

Thank you. It's 14 years ago. Have a new wife that my son calls mum and a daughter 2 years old.....and they all lived happily ever after ;-)

I'm sorry for your loss, and you're stronger than most people I know.

Thanx a lot. did learn a lot and grew through this. A lucky man with a new wife, my son and his 2 year old little sister. I know faith pays

My best friend killed himself... fuck, 13 years ago now. Stuff does get better, but that one part of you always seems to be stuck in time...
