Display it with honor. Not everyone can physically get out there and protest but doing what you can to gum up the gears with emails, phone calls to your representatives, and your own skills and digital wizardry is making a difference!
KCB1986
Because of my employer, I can’t march or protest; so I’ve decided to take my protest digitally and battle disinformation online. I am 100% an armchair activist because it’s all I can do.

Did you know there are a number of domains that still allow you to create an email address without a phone number?

FYI, if you're going to participate in something like this, the trick is to make your fake message seem real so it can't be filtered out. Even if there's not an automatic filter, you won't be wasting anyone's time by just writing "lmao eff u Elon" because whoever looks at it knows to delete it instantly. The point is to make them waste their time, and the more legit it looks, the more time they'll waste.
WhatTheFrench
I don’t understand how this effort could be blocking OPM efforts at all. I applaud the success if we’ve actually made some, but I’m surprised there isn’t a way to just block emails from anything but .gov email addresses and call it a day. And a friend in a federal job told me his office doesn’t have individual workers emailing OPM anyway, they’re emailing their bosses and the bosses are collating the responses and forwarding the information in some fashion.

I don’t know what best to do most of the time. so I find people who are distressed and let them vent at me. I’ve also managed to create a safe place at my workplace for LGBT folk and allies to learn, create and display art over the past couple of years. I didn’t even mean to do that it just kind of evolved from a project I proposed

I really hate that "armchair activist" is used as an insult. It's just ableism.
I'm autistic and fully shut down when overstimulated. Language stops making sense, I have zero executive function, I inevitably throw up, etc.
If I went to a protest and shit went off the rails, I'd just become someone's responsibility. Or I'd be abandoned. You don't WANT me there.
I do a lot of other things, but I stay in my lane, regardless of the number of people who try to make me feel bad about it.

Thank you for your service

And I thank you for it! 👍
KatInTheCorner
Much appreciated, but entirely unnecessary.

I try to remember that the vitriol thrown at Americans for not protesting rioting or assassinating is ultimately only for the neurotypical. That does nothing to make it feel any less scathing, but I at least have something else to doubt myself about.
KatInTheCorner
I'm trying to figure out how to phrase this cuz I'm not trying to be antagonistic at all.
I just worry there are a lot of folks in relatively privileged positions, especially compared to conditions in the US, who are insisting people die or be imprisoned (where legal slavery and rape are expected as part of the punishment) as the only acceptable reactions.
Even for neurotypical people. Folks have kids who would be put into foster care, elderly parents abandoned to abysmal state facilities...
SeekerOfFire
They are likely only doing so out of anxiety over what will happen internationally, or otherwise just to agitate people, but it does happen a lot now that democracy in the USA is fucked.
KatInTheCorner
I get the anger, I get that something needs to be done, but I think a lot of folks overestimate what the average person is capable of.
It takes real conditioning to get a soldier to be willing to kill and die for something, and folks are asking grocers and Uber drivers to die for the cause. Lambs to the slaughter, realistic expectations be damned.
The only thing that has ever solved fascism is international government intervention. Professionals. Experts. Training.

I have a Knoll Generations and love it. Cheaper than Herman Miller too
WhatTheFrench
They merged with Herman Miller a while back. :)
InkyBlinkyPinkyAndClyde
Oh yeah I know, but the Generations is cheaper than the HM-branded ones.

Eames Lounge chair is more my style but, we can all have a preference!
FlatPlutoSociety
Absolutely not. If you don't share my EXACT taste in office furniture, you're dead to me and you're probably an irredeemably evil person to boot.

re: What I did last week
1: I did not betray every value this country supposedly stands for to capitulate to a Russian dictator and betray an ally that is literally fighting for their survival because I am not a treasonous spineless asshole.
2: I did not cancel a multi-billion dollar government contract with verizon so i could replace it with my own company for massive personal profit because I am not a lying cheating grifter.
samanthadlcruz
3: I did not fire the government employees that were actively trying to prevent the spread of bird flu, ebola or measles because I am not a moron.
4: I did not play golf during work hours because that would be a waste of taxpayers money and dereliction of duty.
5: I did not lie about "saving $900 Million" from the dept of education when my actions actually wasted ~$400 Million.
samanthadlcruz
6: I did not falsely claim that there were 150+ year olds claiming social security benefits because people with even the most basic level of intelligence check their facts before spouting baseless sensational nonsense.
7: I did not fraudulently claim that the government spent 50 million dollars on condoms for hamas because I am not a fucking liar like some people.
samanthadlcruz
8: I did not fire thousands of workers from the VA because (unlike some people) I believe veterans deserve to get the benefits that they earned.
9: I did not fire the entire NHTSB or gut the FAA because I am not a billionaire with a conflict of interest that wants to destroy those federal agencies that are regulating and taking enforcement actions against the abusive practices of businesses that they own
samanthadlcruz
10: I did not fire and dismantle the entire USAID agency because that agency provided essential humanitarian programs that benefit the US in multiple ways.
11: I did not fire the staff of the National Nuclear Security Administration because I am not a complete fucking lunatic.
samanthadlcruz
12: I did not pull the US out of the World Health Organization; nor did I appoint completely incompetent and unqualified leadership to head up our National Health Agencies because no sane person would think that was a good idea.
13: I did not betray our closest allies or start a really stupid trade war with our biggest trading partners because that would be unbelievably stupid.
14: I did not appoint an alcoholic with zero qualifications to be the head of our defense department.
