Around 3:30am on a very stormy night, some neighbors trampoline hit the main power line feeding our house and ripped it and the meter (located just outside our bedroom) right off the side. I seriously thought we were being hit by a tornado and we were about to die. It was pretty easy to prove what did it, given that our yard was littered with springs and other debris. It was much harder for them to figure out which asshole hadn't secured their purchase to the ground. Never did figure it out.

Natural disasters usually aren't covered, are they?

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

We had our siding replaced from hail damage.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Yes? Everyone in the region got their roof fixed on insurance this year due to the high winds and tornadoes.

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

I would think that natural would be the most common of the disasters..

Dunno, I've seen plenty of disasters around that we only have thanks to the wonders of IVF and similar.

The only things that insurance covers are the things that lawyers have been able to successfully argue in court that insurance covers. And even then, only if your lawyer knows about the previous successful cases.

Insurance covers exactly what it says it will cover in the very long, very detailed legal document that you signed when you purchased the insurance. People run into trouble because they just look for the lowest premiums and don’t actually pay attention to the coverage details.

"Some of the nation’s biggest insurance companies—
Allstate, AIG, and State Farm among others—have
denied valid claims in an attempt to boost their bottom
lines. These companies have rewarded employees who
successfully denied claims, replaced employees who
would not, and when all else failed, engaged in outright
fraud to avoid paying claims." https://www.decof.com/documents/insurance-company-tricks.pdf

If you have a lawyer who can't find the previous cases, you have the wrong lawyer

Also known as "the lawyer you can afford, since you aren't a massive corporation."
