How Imgur and the FBI brought down an international internet pedophile...

Hello, Imgur.

What follows is the story of the crusaders known as "The Fuckface Conquerors," named so for the code-name we gave the person we were trying to find: Fuckface, AKA "Nolan". The story is long, but I'll include a tl;dr at the bottom.

Back a few weeks ago, I received a call from one of my best friends. She was crying and telling me how her younger sister (age 13) was being harassed online by someone who wanted nude pictures. He used the tactic to say "I've already hacked your computer and I have nudes of you, send more or I'll put these on porn websites." He knew fully well that this was illegal.

Only issue? No proof that it happened.

The young girl blocked the creeper and wiped the conversations in panic. All that was given was a username.

I appealed to my Snapchat friends. I asked for help on "My Story" from anyone who could lend a hand. I didn't exactly know what we were going to do, but that's never stopped me from doing dumb bullshit before.

Within a couple seconds, I had a dozen replies. People wanted to help.

The Fuckface Conquerors were born.

Going on nothing but a username and a private Instagram page, we started.

It is important to note, this takes place over the span of a couple weeks, not all in one day.

Initially, the plan was to dig through his pictures and find anything that would let us know WHERE he was, so we could alert the authorities in that area. Unfortunately, there were only a handful of original pictures, with the rest of the postings being highly-sexualized memes.

One was a video of a lightning storm, claiming to be in Huston, TX. The others were of various plants, and a couple insects.

We tried reverse searching the images, and found no other trace of them being posted to the internet. We also tried digging for EXIF data, which was later discovered that IG wipes from pictures.

We were running out of options.

We made some base assumptions about the guy. He had introduced himself as "Nolan" to my friend's sister, so we were operating on that basis. His nickname also had a string of numbers that we thought might correlate to a birthday, that's make him 24, even though he said he was 16 in the past.

I admit it, I was a little... Heated. I wanted this guy to pay, but I'm not violent.

We eventually decided it would be the best course of action to attempt to... bait him.

And eventually, he responded.

I will warn you, if you're reading this, the screen caps that are about to follow are VERY aggressive in nature, and can be a bit off-putting. This guy is psychotic, scary, and dominating in his demeanor.

Here are the screen caps of the conversations had between "Nolan" and our people.

He started off not aggressive. But he had been made aware prior as to this account holder's age (15), so he was fishing for pictures.

"Nolan" had started to threaten to leave if no pictures were provided. And even when reminded of age, he persisted.

This gets creepier.

Why he said "more" is beyond us.

We were trying to get a picture of him so that we could search for EXIF again, and just to get one for identity's sake.

And here we have him pulling the same bullshit as before...

This man is fucking sick.

Meanwhile, he was posting things like this...

This dude had followers. Lots of 'em. God knows how many people he tricked.

Someone we suggested a more tech-oriented route, so we let them try their magic. Unfortunately, we still couldn't get anything on this perv.

He mentioned that he was from Grants Pass, OR, which is kinda a weird town to mention if you're not actually from Oregon. As a lifelong Oregonian, if you're from Grants Pass, you keep that shit to yourself.

But in the few pictures he posted, there were ZERO mountains. Which is definitely not like Oregon.

I included this shot not to show the progress we were making on finding the person in question, but the bonding that had happened.

I had an idea.

I found a way to get an IP address from him, but we had a problem. We had to trick him into clicking it. Once he clicked it, we'd have a rough idea of where he was at.

Thus, a plan was hatched. Cari, who was still intermittently talking to "Nolan" was going to tell him to click the link, insisting it was a selfie.

After sending her the link, we waited.

I've omitted the IP address and the subsequent location: Mumbai, India.

I won't lie... When we found out that "Nolan" was in India, I was a little disheartened. I thought that there was nothing we could do.

Then, we got a little more fortunate. Our in-group tech-wiz went to town on what we had uncovered.

And then a serious stroke of luck.

Once again, we've omitted a map, but we were able to find this guy within a 2-block stretch in Mumbai. Whereas there was nothing any of us could personally do, in the right hands, this information would be... beneficial, to say the least.

Now we had an address, evidence, and witnesses. Only question that remained was where the hell to send our findings?

I talked to my ex-CIA contact, and he suggested that we talked to the FBI, as their jurisdiction is wider than anybody else we could contact. Not only that, but there's an office for the FBI in my town, Salem, OR.

So, I did what I needed to do; I told my boss I had to take off early so I could chat with the FBI about getting a pedophile in India arrested.

Seriously, if I could have taken a picture of his face, I would have it framed.

One small thing, though. The FBI was going to come to my house.

Important note: When I'm nervous, scared, or panicky, I tend to deflect with humor.

Still the FBI were on their way to my apartment, so it seemed. I was under quite a bit of pressure.

Now it's not every day you get the prestigious FBI on your doorstep, so I wanted to make them feel welcome. Remember how I said I deflected with humor?

I got a phone call about an hour later. The agent I had been talking to asked if he was still okay to come over. I mentioned it might be easier to just email everything to him, since there are files he could use as evidence and screenshots.

Plus, I hadn't vacuumed. I wasn't about to have the FBI in my dirty apartment.

In true FBI fashion, I've redacted all the important information that shouldn't be leaked. Here's a copy of the email sent to the FBI.

Thank you once again for taking the time to look into this case. I have attached all the screen shots my friend took, but she would more than likely be able to provide more. Also attached is the IP address we managed to get from using an IP logger link that traced back to Mumbai, and at the bottom of this email, I'll post the traceroute my friend dug up.

Here's a brief synopsis of what's happened so far:

Saturday, November 18th, my friend [REDACTED] had talked with me and expressed concern over something that had happened with her sister, who we'll call [REDACTED]. It seems that [REDACTED], who is 13-years-old, was being extorted by someone on Instagram who knew her age, and they were trying to get her to send nude photographs. The man was threatening to post nude photos of her to porn websites that he had obtained through hacking her computer, which is false, because I don't believe that [REDACTED] has a computer.

[REDACTED] then blocked the man on Instagram, and thereby wiped the conversations they had. Upon hearing this, I got some of my friends together to investigate. One friend took their Instagram account and talked to the man as if she were 15-years-old. Despite knowing this information, eventually the man pressured my friend (who we'll call Cari) into sending nude photos of herself. He then pulled the same maneuver that he tried with [REDACTED], saying he'd post her photos to porn websites if she didn't comply.

After screen capping the conversations, I generated an IP logger link and she tricked him into clicking it, which logged his IP address as [REDACTED] that corresponds to a Vodaphone ISP in Mumbai, India.

Since then, we have had no conversation with the man. We were looking to find an approximate location (and tried to get him to send a picture so that we could use EXIF data and get an EXACT location, though that didn't pan out) before reporting him to the proper law enforcement agency. If it were domestic, I would have called the police department nearest to his location. Since the FBI is one of the few law enforcement agencies that has international jurisdiction to enforce laws from the United States, I thought you would be my best bet.

We know very little about this man. His online username for Instagram is nk341993, possibly suggesting a birthday that would make him approximately 24 years of age. He has said that his name is "Nolan," which aligns with the username prefix of "NK," but not likely because of his geographical locations. He has very few original posts on Instagram that aren't crude sexual humor, but one location he mentioned was Austin, TX. Later, when asked in conversation, he mentioned that he was from Grants Pass, OR. From the cadence in the way he talks, I'm more inclined to believe that he's actually from India, like the IP address suggests. However, it gets more complicated.

Reverse image searches of the pictures he's posted have been verified that they're original, and not a re-post. In one of the pictures he posted was a small caterpillar, which has been identified as orgyia leucostigma and is native to the North-American southern region, further adding to his "Texas" story. Another conflict is him posting to his page a video of a lightning storm that was recorded live on September 6th, 2017, which records show a high-pressure system and no cloud-coverage that day in Austin. Mumbai shows having had partial showers and cloud coverage that day, which would better suit the video.

It should be noted that it was a little late by the time I finished writing this email, and I've been watching cop dramas lately, so... I probably included a bit more information that necessary.

Either way, the correspondence continued, with us giving him screen caps of more stuff, more info, and him talking to the original victim. It took about a week, and "Nolan" had been radio-silent. Until...

A full. Fucking. Confession.

Like... Just right there. In the open. For everyone to see.

We talked about it, and we came to the conclusion that someone must've contacted him. Someone must've come to his door and told him that they know what's going on. That's the only reason a pedophile would confess. Especially so publicly.

 The sick part? He wasn't losing followers.

Disgusted men and women of Imgur, allow me to introduce you to Nasir.

At this point, he's only lost a couple hundred followers.

Someone sent me these screen caps, and they were sent off to the FBI.

Since then? His account has been kinda quiet. Not sure what's happened to dear Nasir.

Hopefully, he's rotting in a cell somewhere awaiting trial.

This has been the story of random internet strangers who came together to fight a common enemy.

As always, there is a moral to this story, and it's best summed up by my friend, who wanted me to send a message to the Fuckface Conquerors:

"Can you tell them there is little girl who they helped make feel safe again? That she says you guys are “the coolest” and cried when I told her she had an entire team of strangers on the internet working to protect her? And that her big sister and parents say thank you. They proved that for every one creeper online, there are 20 (or however many more) good guys."

For every ONE person who seeks to do harm, let's hope there's 20 more Fuckface Conquerors out there who would seek to stop them.
