died of dementia related starvation because his second wife had power of attorney and his kids couldn't pull the plug. Not a good way to go

It's called a power of attorney and you can actually do the paperwork online if Dad is compitent

actually for this you dont need s POA just a living directive/will that tells the hospital who is to make medical choices for you.
