For Beginners

I'll start by saying, I got out of paintball about 15 years ago and a LOT has changed since then but this is what I knew and how I lived during my highschool years.

I'll start with a couple beginner makers. Shown in green is an old school autococker style maker. These are great guns for beginner to intermediate players looking to jump into some random paintball games or to play some scenario ball type games. Autocockers are very accurate markers. They aren't as fast as the professional electronic aided markers you'll see in the world cup matches but they're a good place to start. They operate like all other markers and are easy to modify. They require practice and control to fire. Pulling the trigger fully gives a good release of the bolt to keep the paint from breaking and spraying your barrel. And they're like a woman. If you give it a good solid stroke, she'll be happy and shoot straight and true for you.

Paintballs in any marker typically leave the gun between 250-300fps. Yes it'll cause welts. It kinda stings but it's a great sport! GO DO IT!!

Also for beginners

This is the Tippmann A5. Primarily used as rental guns along with its cousin the Tippmann 98 custom, this is generally what most places used to use as their loaner guns for anyone looking for an afternoon of paint and bruises. Typically run off of CO2 rather than a compressed air system, it's reliable and fun. At the time you could pick one of these babies up stock for about 200 bucks. The model shown has the 'boom barrel' on it as I used to call it. Gives the paintball a backspin allowing it a range of about 150 feet before it dropped off. It sounds like a damn cannon when it goes off though. Can easily be modded to look like an AR-15 if desired. You can place all kinds of fun mods on it to make it how you want it. Shown has an extended air hose on it so you can wear your CO2 tank on your back or belt so it doesn't get in the way of the cosmetic mods. I owned one of these in my early EARLY days of playing. I had mine modded out to have a CAR stock on it, foregrip, boom barrel and laser site on it because why the fuck not!? I left my CO2 bottle attached to the gun itself instead of carrying on my back.

Speaking of air... lets talk air!

Here you'll see an HPA system vs a CO2 system. Why does the difference matter? Are they interchangeable? It matters for how cleanly the paintballs exit your marker. CO2 is less stable than a High Pressure Air system (also comes in low pressure) and you're more liable to get chop out of a CO2 system. CO2 is a lot cheaper though and for the weekend player or bachelor party, that's all you need.

My high pressure tank when I played held 3500psi and I could typically get about 3 games worth of time out of my tank. My CO2 tank would run dry for me by the end of a single game before I had to fill up. HPA systems are also pretty pricey and not all markers are set up for HPA. The regulators don't like it if you don't set them up properly. I think my HPA tank ran somewhere around $150 bucks or so. Honestly can't remember that well.

Advanced guns for serious players

This gun shown is one of my all time favorites. I've been told they don't even make this anymore. This is a Bob Long Dragon Intimidator. It's a great gun with an electronic trigger board on it. Why do you need an electronic trigger? Various tournaments have set standards for how many balls can exit your gun in a certain amount of time. When I played we were always restricted to 22 rounds per second. No matter how fast you pull the hair trigger, only 22 balls per second would be fired. It's great gun that at the time was approximately $1200 bucks. It's also a very finicky gun. Prone to breaking, at least mine was. Give it love and it will show you love in return

The Shocker!

Probably not what you're thinking. This marker made by Smart Parts was one of my other favorites along with a marker by Angel and one by Dye that I owned. Each one at or around about a grand per marker. The shocker is a favorite of a lot of teams. Minimal moving parts its a highly reliable gun. Electronic, runs HPA... a great place to go if you're looking to pwn some noobs or start down the path to paintball immortality!

Other things you'll need...

Hoppers are a vital part of any paintball marker. It's what holds your paint as you enter the field of battle! Shown we have an Odyssey Halo electronic hopper. Mine at the time ran me about $150 bones. Standard plastic hoppers (shake and bakes) do the exact same thing mostly. They feed the paintballs into the gun so you can shoot. The difference is the electronic hoppers help keep the flow of paint steady to your marker and reduce the chance of paintballs getting stuck in the feed tube and forcing you to shake your gun. Hence the term, Shake and Bake. During a recreational game or a woodsball/scenario style game you'll often see people slapping their hoppers or shaking their guns. It's because the paint got stuck. This baby reduces the chances of that happening and assists you in slinging long ropes of paint.

Barrel kits

Paintballs like real bullets, come in varying calibers. Typically the size of a paintball is standard across the board, but environmental conditions like heat or humidity can cause paint to swell or constrict. Having a good interchangeable barrel system like what's shown here can make sure that your paint has the most snug fit to exit the barrel with. This reduces the likelihood that your paint will bounce in the barrel or get stuck and explode when it gets hit by the bolt.

Mask

You must have a mask. This is an unavoidable truth unless you're a Gotsdanged moron. I wouldn't want a paintball traveling 275fps to smash my eye out... no thanks! Buy a mask. It might just save your eyesight especially if you're like me who apparently liked to recreate bad pornos by getting gogged in the face by an enemy paintball. That's terminology for getting hit in the goggles by a paintball...

Clothing

Okay, this sounds like a fun sport. Do I need to buy hundreds of dollars worth of special paintball clothing? Hells to the no! If all you're doing is getting drunk and playing paintball in the woods on a camping trip, go by your local military surplus store and spend 30 bucks on an old set of BDUs or something or play in a T-Shirt and shorts. It's your life, live it how you want.

I had a couple jerseys like this that my team's sponsor bought for us. Arms have padding, there are other areas of thin padding to help when you're sliding across the ground trying to take someone out. Also, it makes it look like you know what you're doing...

More clothes

Between my jerseys and my pants, my clothing alone was roughly a $500 dollar setup. Remember my shit was customed for me. The pants are nice because they protect your lower body better for doing a lot of sliding and being on your knees alot (cue BJ jokes). It also provided extra support for me since I was a backman, I carried 12 fully loaded pods on a belt.

A pod is a separate container that held 200 paintballs. Do the math. 12x200. That's a lot of paint. My job after the game started was to stay low and throw as much paint down field as possible at the enemy to allow my guys a chance to move up and make close range shots. Because of that, I had to refill quickly and often.

Beercans... Doritos.... mmmmmm

When playing speedball, typical style for tournaments, you have a lot of inflated objects or bunkers to hide behind, shown are a Dorito and a beercan. The shapes are fairly obvious, but it also allows for instant recognition when you're communicating with your team for callouts. An example you say? "1 behind the beer can! 2 behind the center Dorito! 1 crawling down the snake!"

The Snake...

The snake is a name for any long string of bunkers placed together on one side of the field. It allows players the ability to attempt to move unnoticed down the field. Or you can get your ass shot the fuck up hiding back behind this as EVERYONE tries to take the snake! Some of the best kills I ever got were pinning people down on the snake and shooting them point blank.

There's a small overview of some of the basics of paintball as I remember it. I'll answer as many questions as I can for whoever has them. Please remember that I stopped playing 15 years ago after my sponsors at the time dropped my team. They figured that we should play paintball rather than study for finals to finish highschool.

If you're interested in paintball and want to chat more, hit me up. It's a great sport to get into but it's expensive as fuck to take seriously... During any given team practice we'd shoot anywhere between 10-20 cases of paint at $80 bucks a case. Sponsors are great and terrible at the same time...

Please excuse any spelling mistakes that I might have left in here too... I'm on my 4th beer and 3rd cigar... Hope you enjoyed it... if you didn't, don't be a douche... if you did, I'm glad. It was fun to remember those times! Thanks! And if by some miracle this hits the FP, there won't be some gayass FP Edit about OMG I made the front page! I promise!

Jesus memory Christ batman the nostalgia from seeing the autococker and old school halo was heavy.

I'm part of a South African team called Raven Ops, just a group of friends playing for fun.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Shit I wish the local place rented the A5 - they're still renting out the Tippman 98s!

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Ah cool, now all i need are some friends irl and i get to play paintball :D

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I've done it casually a few times...if i do it more often I might invest in a mask that doesn t fucking fog up so quickly

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

you can fetch a mask for 50$ easily.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah... That's a smart parts ion, not a Shocker.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

I balled once... So me and OP are pretty much best friends.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

fuck yeah we are! when are you coming over for steak beer and cigars? The wife and kids miss you!

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Cool stuff OP.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I stopped playing probably 10 years ago. I miss it. I was actually good at it. The sport has changed tremendously.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yeah, obviously this post isn't accurate, but enough people expressed interest so I figured I'd make it... then the nit-pickers showed up

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You might want to mention the different types of paintball games. This setup is for speed ball. I personally prefer woodsball.

10 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

unless you play milsim, speedball gear can be used for woodsball. i play woodsball with my old speedball gear.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The A5 is fairly indestructible. Have played games where I fell into a river, needed to dry my barrel out and kept playing. Mechanical 1/3

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Marker. VERY easy to repair at the field and like OP said, mods are everywhere. Had a friend leave his outside all winter, in the snow, 2/4

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Cleaned it in the spring and played. ALOT of fields, most indoor, limit to 250fps. Getting shot from 10ish feet away will break skin. 3/4

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Have been to outdoor games where the limit has been as high as 280fps. The playing areas were a couple of acres

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Paintball is the best game for a rush of excitement and a little danger. Hurts like a bitch and nothing feels better.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I didn't know there is semi or pro paintball. Thanks for the education!

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

In the mid 2000's the most prominent player received a $100,000 annual contract and a desk job for security at Dye. Who knows how it is now

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That's incredible! It's always inspiring to hear of the success one can achieve with their passion for what they love

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You can find the world cup on EPSN Ocho or whatever periodically. I think Vegas usually is where they play. You can look it up! Lots of fun!

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Ah, the Ocho. I'll pick up the latest copy of Obscure Sports Quarterly, too.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Honestly I think I saw it last time on ESPN 3... or was it 2? I dunno

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Upvote from me OP. It brought back memories of me and my bestfriends going into the woods. Also, I bought yhe tipman a5 used for 200.00

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I loved the A5 until I got super serial about the game and I had to go bigger. My setup at any given time was over $2000 for everything...

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I bought the A5 back when it first came out. It's a great gun, they hold value really well. And the *kachunk* it makes can't be beat.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I sold all of my gear, most home made, at a yard sale for 150.00 :(

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Dude, it's 2015. Yard sales are for cheap junk. We have ebay and forum marketplaces for expensive stuff now.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Dude, it was back 2002, plus someone bought it and tou can sell what ever the fuck you want at yard sale and for how ever much.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

the sound of paint hitting the snake at 15 bps cant be beaten, everytime i go at my local field just hearing it makes my heart race.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Awesome post OP.

10 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Thanks! I had fun doing this! Brought back a lot of memories

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It's interesting how hobbies can evolve into something people make a profession out of. Sports, video games, this, etc.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Autocockers aren't beginner markers... they chop balls faaar too often. Get an Automag, just as customizable, less finicky

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Also that beaver tail will crack your goggles if you're not careful how you hold it. Accurate? absolutely.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That was my thought. My friend's autococker got out of time once and it never worked right again. Terrible beginner marker.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

So do you still play ever?

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

No. For me it'd be like giving a heroine addict a loaded needle and tell him "Just this once is okay..." so I steer clear of it

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah sounds wise

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

When did you play and for what team? You seemed to use a lot of older gear in your pictures except for the clothing.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I played for a team called Inception and as I stated, I played 15 years ago. That's when I stopped playing so yeah... pretty out of date

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

But I got asked by a bunch of people on another paintball post to do this so I figured, why not? Then the haters came out... whatevs.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Snake player best player!

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

that fucking puddle when it rains tho am i right?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Goodness that part is the worst. or when the beginning of the snake is so worn down that youre just sliding into dirt over and over again.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

my field had some pretty awesome turf tbh, never had the dirt slide

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

World Cup and Nationals for NCPA in Florida does

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

i was playing on astro turf. Mirabel Paintball up in canada

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Dunno why the downvote fairies hit this so hard.. I mean.. Sounds pretty awesome to me.. Nice job OP

10 years ago | Likes 45 Dislikes 9

I think most downvotes for this kind of post is from those fucks who jealous they can't get their shitty repost to the front page.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My reason for downvoting: there is a lot of inaccurate info about pb. The info seems unorganized, as if OP was on his 4th beer and 3rd cigar

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

As an aussie, it's probably the aussies. We never get to have anything fun

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You deserve some fun, mate. Your country tries nonstop to kill you. Go enjoy life. Not a fosters... But something

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

*shrug* guess I won't get my millions of internet points and will have to live in internet point poverty... HOW CAN MY KIDS LOOK AT DAD NOW?

10 years ago | Likes 28 Dislikes 6

Maybe it got downvoted a lot because the information given is very dated. None the less, it's still good info for the newbies.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

What matters is.. You had fun.. Fuck internet points (Tbh, im quite suprised i even got to Glorious.. All i did was lurk in usersub)

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

If they're blind you'd never have to worry about that.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Well, you're at 3003 points as of now.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Or the downvoters are airsoft players

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Does paint ever expire? I went last year and bought too much paint, wound up keeping it, and now I'm afraid to use it

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Some may be dimpled which will make them fly off in random directions, and the occasional barrel break. Still worth a try.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

It'll hold in good temp and humidity for a long time otherwise you'll just spray all over and have to clean like crazy

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

yes. Not necessarily expire, but it will deform from sitting to long (temp and humidity dependent) and break in your barrel.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

+1 for the old school timmy -1 for calling the ion a shocker.

10 years ago | Likes 31 Dislikes 4

I had that intimidator before my alias. Loved it. Then went to matrixes.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I shot a shocker then a geo 1-3

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

http://www.oocities.org/tienmt24/images/blackshocker.jpg Newer 03 shocker

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

They did look similar, but the picture is an ion XE and they were around $250-300. They could be modified to the moon though.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Shoebox shocker. Nostalgia man

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I miss my first generation angel that had the wooden grips.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

damn last time i touched paintball none of this stuff existed. electronics? 22 rounds a second? thats insanity

10 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

That's half the speed of mini or gattling gun. I almost don't believe it

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Believe it, 20 bps is considered mid range now. Higher rates of fire are usually not allowed on most paintball fields.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That's crazy. Fps?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Indoors is about 240 feet per second, outdoors 260-300. Been shot in the bare neck from 6 feet playing outdoors, had to stop for a sec.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

National tournys have BPS caps, but some guns can go over 30bps uncapped. usually you're looking at around 15, i think psp was 14.6?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

i find it extremely hard to believe consider its gas force not combustion/ not equal force on the rounds. they would impact at that speed

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Not to mention how fast they would need to be fed. I've heard horror stories of balls exploding in the chamber and that was with a slow gun

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Loaders have gotten extremely good at feeding balls at high speeds. For example the Dye Rotor(one of the more popular loaders) feeds 50bps.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

just the amount of pressure needed to eject at that speed would fracture the rounds. it would look like an airbrush gun

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I don't doubt well made equipment but Idd have to see it to believe it

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I play snake for GB Ladies and love the promotion of PB, but not with outdated pictures and facts!!!

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Bro, that's an Ion, not a shocker.

10 years ago | Likes 54 Dislikes 1

Smart Parts went out of business and threw the future of replacement parts for all their markers into jeopardy, and that was 2010.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

shockerparts.com and GOG Paintball have/had a lot of SP replacement parts.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah my bad. Drinking beer, smoking cigars, stated its been 15 years. Cut me some slack Jack

10 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 4

Nope, no slack

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

He must have quit playing ball a decade ago. All that stuff is pretty dated.

10 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Agreed

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

EXTREMELY dated. I played back then, and I still play today. Most of this information is wordy and inaccurate.

10 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 2

15 years ago... I still have my mini

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm a pro baller myself.

10 years ago | Likes 371 Dislikes 5

But do you ball out?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I would be too if I were a little bit taller

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I am a pro baller... if by pro you mean rank... and by balling we mean Rocket League.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Used to be Semi-pro as well, and Refed PSP's for a while. Had Chris Lasoya threaten to kick my ass after refing his kid haha

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ok.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

WILDCATS

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Played college ball, ya know.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I still have an A5. Very pretty marker.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I fondle them for free if I like you.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Well, enough to be considered a baller

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Pros can make a lot of money depending on sponsors, skill, etc.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Really? Shit... this shoulda been you doing the AMA... I'm 15 years removed from the game

10 years ago | Likes 151 Dislikes 1

Bob long still makes Timmys, but they look more like Egos now. Most people will buy something like an ION or Mini for a beginner gun now.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My husband played too! He was young and got out of a few years back . I'm courious to know if any of you know each other on PB nation

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Shit, now I want to go out and play again, it's been like 4 years or so, I was really getting back into stock class before I stopped.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

part of me wants to fire up my old Spyder Rodeo for a few balls! God that gun hasn't seen action in probably abouuuuttttt 6 years!

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I have one of the Green ones still. Haven't used it in years

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Basics are still very very similar. Just more gear, more advanced guns etc. great post, I was excited to see paintball on the FP!

10 years ago | Likes 48 Dislikes 0

I was too, I just had an argument with the autococker post... I was warned away from them when I was beginning from pros

10 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Intresting read @op!

10 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

I didn't realize until your comment that @op links to ops profile, which is a really cool feature.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Happy to be of help!

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I didn't know that either... tmyk.gif

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

did you get a notification for @op?

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I wasted some much money on this shit. Now no one plays

10 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 0

here i can play every sunday with about 25 other guys.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Its picking back up. Problem was bad economy for a while meant a sport that required a lot of expendable money hit a dry spot.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Pbnation.com

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's been gaining momentum again as of last several years. Depends on area a lot tho. Here in the south it's been coming back (yay!!)

10 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

The South will rise again!!

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Lucky for me I live in Brighton, UK. We have 1 laser tag.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Where in the south? I'm in Alabama and all but one field within 100 miles of my house has closed down.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That where I'm at. Where in AL you at?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Near Montgomery. I only know of one field near here but I'm fairly new to the area so maybe I'm missing something

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

there really is only one that way. My home field is in Calera. i know of a bit of people that come up to here from mont. rather than there..

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

also just a little further than that in McCalla there is P.I.G . Used to be "paintball quest". Havnt been there yet but old pbq was awesome

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Interesting read! Makes me want to get my Tippman 98 Custom back out and fix it up. The balls tend to blow up in the barrel a lot.

10 years ago | Likes 52 Dislikes 1

Right? Made me think about dusting off my Ion and going out tomorrow. Then I stood up & things hurts and I remembered I'm old.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Make sure you are using decent quality paint.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Tippmann 98 Custom were so fun! I had a long barrel for that bad boy and pulled a couple good mask shots.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I also have a long barrel :D

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They're so good :D

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Tippman 68 Carbine- Old school before the old school.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It was sold even when I was playing a ton in 05-07. The 68 Carbine wasn't as modable as the 98. I had a ton of work done to mine.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I have a 68 carbine as well. Also in need of repairs.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Still got one! One of my favorite woodsball guns before i turned to tourny ball!

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Regulator is probably faulty and letting too much CO2 through... check the reg out

10 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 3

in my books, custom 98 dont have regs... the way they opperate is just straight up hard on paint. also, CO2 isnt really used anymore.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Could be the sear or spring. Maybe the sear got chipped and doesn't latch onto the rear bolt, making the bolt fire to many times.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That sounds plausible. It occasionally seems to double fire. Which I forgot to mention

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Happened to me last week. Get a new sear and spring, that WILL fix it. Even if the sear just looks like a little wear, THERE IS A CHIP!

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thanks for the information!

I figured this might be the cause. It's been years since I touched it, and when I did, I was quite young. It could use a good look over :D

Yep. Regulator and clean the fuck out of it. 'So clean the Virgin Mary herself would be proud to take a dump in there' clean

I intended to clean it, replace seals, see if anything else is in dire need of replacing, and see where it goes from there.

Good luck! Should be some easy fixes to get it back operational! I loved that gun for so many years!

Great post, but very dated equipment. I play for my university and can do a more updated post if anybody wants. CO2 is completely obsolete

What kinda post do we want

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

A good one.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

It's not obsolete at all and it's still very common for intro/beginners since HPA is very expensive compared to C02.

Stock class and 3.5oz tanks are makin a strong surge

I would enjoy your post.

I used to paintball back from 2000 to around 2003, kind of infrequently, but nonetheless anybody that knew their stuff used HPA.

I've seen all the paintball episodes of Community, so I'm pretty much an expert.

Do a post!

CO2 is not completely obsolete. It is much cheaper and way easier to fill. with HPA tanks you have to get them re certified every few (1/2)

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

years. Also with HPA tanks you usually have to get them filled professionally at a scuba shop since home air compressors don't the pressure

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

You can buy the fill stations (last I looked almost 15 years ago ~$1200) and the big HPA tanks to do at home but you're right.

Who do you play for? Make it down to nationals ever?

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Nah I'm out in the Midwest which is struggling to make collegiate paintball happen so we all just kinda play each other

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I used to play out in the Midwest for Annandale Warbirds, Which college you play for?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I played for SIU. It was about 2 years after the real team all graduated. It was sad that nobody wanted to join. There was like 7 of us.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I used to play college ball but as far as I knew the only thing that would be different are newer gun models. What all changed?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

We pretty much use PSP rules, but not the newest ones making it 12 BPS true semi or whatever it is

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Looking at the BPS rulebook, it's 10.2 BPS and ramping's allowed?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Looking at the PSP rulebook, it's 10.2 BPS and ramping's allowed? Back when I played there was no BPS limit but 1 pull 1 shot.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The pro league has some goofy rule making it 12 BPS true semi or something I think, but we still get to use ramping which is nice

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ahh nice, I think that was just starting to be a thing when I stopped playing. My Intimidator didn't do it stock, but the tadao board could.
