Genius meme! I wonder what could make people buy from a cheap service during a pandemic, for cross country shipping at that!! So clever!

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Not always a choice. I can't afford ethically made clothes, but I can't go around naked. They're still finding casualties from last time.

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

I went out of my way this season to not use at all- and it was friggin hard!

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I used Etsy!

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

‘But it’s slightly cheaper and more convenient!’ they all cried. ‘I care but not enough to use another website or do anything!’

5 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 2

You can bitch at Amazon but there will just be another giant to take over. You have to aim at the source, your politicians.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

For me it is mostly to do with the reliable shipping. Amazon has cornered the market on rapid & cheap shipping.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I tried mailing something last year myself to a secret Santa on the other side of the world. Shipping would have cost $85

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I never buy from Amazon. It's actually not that hard.

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Don't expect the altruism of the poor to correct the failings of government.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Amazon has also helped us to grow the Secret Santa program!

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

We all know Amazon is awful, but we also are so overworked and underpaid that we often can't afford but use it. Similar to WalMart. 1/2

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

2/2 When the choice is to spend $5 with Amazon or $20 with local store, I often can't afford that extra fifteen bucks. That's a tank of gas.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

But we don't want to get rid of Amazon. we just want corporate accountability, humane treatment and compensation for workers and 1/2

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

To tax the rich.

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

“Strange, you complain about capitalism yet you participate in capitalism.”

5 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Nah you can participate in capitalism without supporting a particular company. It's not hard to not buy from Amazon

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You didn’t grasp what I wrote. Sorry.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I shopped at small businesses for all my gifts I packed in the box I sent. I can't bring myself to give Amazon a dime, former employee.

5 years ago | Likes 54 Dislikes 1

Same here. Most my gifts I bought at a local craft show. Everything by local artisans. Boxed and shipped 2 weeks ago

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I'd give more upvotes if i could

5 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

We don't want it to go away. We just want it to be better. Besides, if we boycott it then Congress is just going to give it ourmoney anyway.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

My partner & I have made a point this year to not order from Amazon, surprisingly easy to find what you need elsewhere & often cheaper

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

It's not always easy. I had to put in a lot of time to find people selling what I'm trying to buy in the countries I want it delivered.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

But I'm glad I did.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

"We want to care, but not if it inconveniences us."

5 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

100% agree. All the comments here are basically "but it's just soooooo convenient!!!"

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

There's a lot of putting the onus for ethical conduct on the consumer not the company. Yes, we as individuals should try to consume p1

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Ethically, but if a company has monopolized the market then the onus should be on them to behave ethically, rather than condemning the p2

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Individual for buying from them. If the only shop owner in town is a bastard, focus on them, not telling the locals to go without clothes p3

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

To punish them. Put pressure on the government to regulate businesses, not people.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Feel the Burn, hypocrites! (NOTE: only those that whine about Amazon yet use it anyways)

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I hate aAmazona nd their tax evasion/Practices but what they do have is a delivery service that turns up at my house. Unlike the rest

5 years ago | Likes 55 Dislikes 6

So you also choose economy over humanity? Pro-Trumper and Anti-lockdown I guess?

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 4

Wrong country mate, I chose lockdown, remain and I operate my business ethically and support local charities/business. But I like my stuff.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Oh and I share my prime video with 5 other households, and they order through my account so hitting them a little in profit margin

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Yes! Amazon gets here when promised. FedEx on the other hand, lost my package.

5 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 1

In UK its people in cars, but I havent had a parcel go missing yet, DHL, etc are a nightmare with problems 80% of the time.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Amazon generally uses FedEX and UPS to deliver. Sometimes those services will drop it to USPS for local delivery.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Last few times I ordered an Amazon van dropped my stuff off.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Ethical consumerism is a rich mans game.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yeah... Amazon is so big its essentially inescapable now. You're probably using Amazon AWS more then you think you are.

5 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 3

Fun Fact: Imgur is hosted by Amazon Web Services and has been since 2011.

5 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

Nope they imgu me is hosted my my oven

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 4

Oh snap, if you want to include AWS, NONE of us are guilt free. It’s most of our internet.

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Define guilt in this instance though. I didn't ask anyone to use it, if I had a choice to change it, I would. But it's not like I can go to

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

the version of my favorite websites hosted on alternate services - the only option is the one they are using. Okay, you could boycott those

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

sites, but then you'd be digging constantly to find who is hosting what and it would just be a nightmare in general.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Be a lot easier than tracking which manufacturers are ethical. Someone could even write a browser plugin to block automatically.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Us Amazon employees are exhausted

5 years ago | Likes 118 Dislikes 3

Please remain at your location. An Attitude Corrective Officer has been dispatched to the location of your IP address. -Amazon Co.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's almost like major corporations don't give a flying fuck if you enter poverty. Gasp! /s

5 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

Thank you for all you and your o PO were have done throughout the pandemic

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Just in from another 60 hour week - stay strong brother.

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I wish there would be at least an option for delivery: "I don't care ... 1-3 weeks is just fine"

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Making it the cheapest option is also part of it

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

They treat US employees like garbage, over here we have labour laws. -anywhere else.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I tried to go unique but ship times were super delayed because of covid. Did one unique and the rest Amazon so they had something b4 xmas

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

This may surprise you, but it's not hypocrisy to participate in something and ALSO want to improve it. Mind blowing, I know.

5 years ago | Likes 33 Dislikes 9

Depends. If you are trying to improve the situation or are actively making it worse.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I never said people couldn't be hypocrites. But the initial argument is flawed. It's in not hypocritical to use a service and criticize.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Criticize with words means jack shit if you yourself dont listen. What's that old saying about words vs actions?

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Really just looking for single words to harp on there to "win" the conversation, huh?

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ok I'll continue. You would have a point if we were talking about public transportation or clean water, but its amazon delivery service.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

How did you improve it i wonder?

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Improve what, Amazon? I wouldn't say I HAVE improved it, but as a society we can improve it by pushing for policy changes (both in amazon

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

and in government) that improves the quality of life of those who work at places like Amazon, as well as spreading awareness of issues faced

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

by those who work there. But working towards those changes doesn't preclude purchasing from the company. It's not a binary thing.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

MEAT IS MURDER, eats cheese burger. It's not a binary thing.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I see this often, and I think there's a disconnect. Given the choice, most people WOULDN'T buy from Amazon, but they're cheap & reliable 1/2

5 years ago | Likes 394 Dislikes 14

It's fine, their leading robotic warehouse technology. The people ethics will soon be a none problem. All hail megacorp.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I mean they are given a choice. Amazon provides an excellent service. Thats what matters. No one has to work for amazon.

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 8

They have the choice you are just too lazy to get up from your sofa or to find another solution. Do you really need 1-day delivery. BS

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

When I use amazon, I never choose one day. I’m never in that much of a hurry.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

it is convenient but not necessary imo. it is something people can live without.

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 3

My Prime membership expires today and I'm not renewing. It was convenient, but I can definitely live without.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The funny thing is in my experience they're more expensive and unreliable here. But people still love them.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I tried to buy most of my gifts through target this year's. But there were still some items i got through Amazon. Trying!

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Good for you :) Any amount of change at all is better than no change.

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

It’s a pandemic, avoiding stores, able to gift wrap, huge choice range. Able to find things on the giftee’s likes

5 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 1

I disagree I think most people really don't care

5 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 1

The other thing is that when sending something across the world for secret Santa, Amazon is super easy. Don’t have to worry about packing 1/

5 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 3

Or mailing or any of that stuff. You just pick out what you want to send from a huge inventory and it handles it. 2/2

5 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 3

There are many people who don't want to support them, but other options (e.g. companies who treat staff ethically) are too expensive. 2/2

5 years ago | Likes 213 Dislikes 4

I found my secret santa stuff on etsy. Other stuff I find on amazon and buy for 1-2$ more on ebay. There are ways to not support Amazon

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

This is so true. I went to ned bath and beyond for like a big dresser organizer. They had 2 options, both over 100. I got one 40 bucks on A

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Also its globally availible which is a major pro (example; my sister lives in singapore and its FUCKING CONVENIENT)

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

But that is a choice? People value and choose the portion of employee exploration that goes to them (cheap and efficient) over paying more

5 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 18

It's not a choice for some people; they can't afford to pay more.

5 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 4

@amp88 is correct. You are assuming that there isn’t an equitable difference between $10 theoretical dollars and $100, but 1/2

5 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

Depending on our own biases (penny pincher, trust fund kid, etc.) we all value money differently. I can still hate Monsanto and eat food 2/3

5 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Just because I can’t afford the $30 grapes, doesn’t mean I don’t want my grapes ethically raised, etc.

5 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

Amazon also makes a point of buying out or crushing anyone who might be a worthy competitor. They’re like an online version of >

5 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

Sometimes companies have no choice but to sell out, like Eero last year. It was either be bought out, or die.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

>Walmart, deliberately destroying all the local businesses so they can become the ONLY option most people have access to.

5 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Diapers.com is a great example of this. They were a new company, that set up infrastructure that allowed them to sell diapers online at a >>

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

<< fraction of the price anyone else could manage. Amazon bought a massive quantity of diapers, then sold them even cheaper, taking a huge>>

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Also, Amazon is so dang convenient. You can find just about anything, and lots of user reviews can help weed out the really crappy products

5 years ago | Likes 67 Dislikes 3

well, according to an article I just read between 40 and 60 % of the reviews are fake but nowadays so good that u can't distinguish which

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thry even sell cars, which makes it way different than any other place. And a house/prefabs. It is remarkable, and terrifying.

5 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Macy's used to sell prefabs through a catalogue

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's a shame their search and categorization absolutely sucks compared to a more specialized site.

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I rarely ever used it because of this, the user experience is so shitty. Now I boycott them though so it doesn't matter.

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Amazon is also a very useful service. Both can be true at the same time.

5 years ago | Likes 1490 Dislikes 45

hey, get that quantum braining outta here! best to speak in boomer binary

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

I mean cheap clothes from China is useful to me. I still avoid buying it

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

So much for the libertarian argument of free market backlash.

5 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 3

I'd love to ship nice stuff but it'd be almost as expensive to mail regularly than it's cost

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Slaves provide a useful service too. We should use slaves more often.

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 6

It's a very affordable service. You can buy almost anything on there from retailers, for a fraction more. It's a Predatory business model.

5 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

And if you use it, you're a part of that Predatory behaviour.

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

We need useless crap more than we need to make a statement apparently

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Like everything depends a lot on location. People at one near me love it.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yes and Nike "makes" some affordable sneakers...

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

5 years ago | Likes 55 Dislikes 11

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yea, I have been trying to order away from Amazon this year. So far an error charged $200 from my cc without any order being made. 1/2

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

2/2 not always the case but the convenience of use is why Amazon is staying ahead. :/ I just wanted to order fluffy slippers...

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

They have built a service that the poorest are now dependent on. Keeps people hooked.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Agreed but I think OP is pointing out people being hypocritical is not helping their own cause.

5 years ago | Likes 32 Dislikes 5

It's not hypocrisy to say the water tastes funny but then drink it because you need water.

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 6

Using amazon is not like access to clean water lol

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I think we should make a conscious effort to not support companies like Amazon when possible and encourage others to do the same. BWDIk

5 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 1

I typically use them as a search for something I need, and then buy the product from a local store, or direct from one of the listed sellers

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Imo, we are past the point everyday people can make large market changes. We have disenfranchised them too much. Regulation has to happen

5 years ago | Likes 196 Dislikes 4

With that attitude, definitely.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Made worse by corporate propaganda. E.g. making people believe SUVs have a significant impact on global warming and not factories or 1/2

5 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

environmentally incensitive shipping practices due to lower labor rates. 2/2

5 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

True, but individuals often latch onto that fact and use it as an excuse to take no personal action, because "they aren't as bad".

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

bullshit. no one is forced to buy shit on amazon

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 5

No one is "forced" to drive a car or have a cell phone either.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I need a car for work and car companies treat their employees a hell of a lot better than amazon does

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This 100%, applies to so many other problems in the world as well, like climate change

5 years ago | Likes 79 Dislikes 0

One of the biggest lies ever told was that individuals could stop climate change by recycling their bottles.

5 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

And hardly any plastic gets recycled anyways...

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

So I should drive to work instead of using a bicycle because it's pointless to fight the system with everyday small changes?

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 15

I agree we need systematic changes which are far more important but it's possible to have individual changes too. We shouldn't rule that out

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Not necessarily, but it's just as, if not more important, to push for regulating the companies that contribute the most to climate change 1/

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

As it is to make our own individual changes. It's not enough for the rest of us just to try to find alternatives to gas guzzling cars or 2/

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Pretty much, yea. Your 0.0000000000001% percent of emissions aren't enough to change global climate like corporations can.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

So as long as something is hurting the environment more than me it's fine for me to pollute it

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

No, feel free to contribute, but the expectation of billions of people uniting for something is unrealistic, and individuals are low impact.

5 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

A few papers signed could change the course of all energy industries and regulations, taxing the rich as well, so we can afford the change.

5 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0
