Dan Carroll, the church's senior pastor, spoke with KABC-TV about Bryant's death, saying soon after he was diagnosed his condition rapidly worsened.

"He was only in the hospital for a matter of hours and they put him on a respirator. And then a few hours after that, he had a heart attack," Carroll said.

Carroll did not say anything about his 20,0000-member mega church's decision to hold services indoors against the orders of California state. Governor Newsom has had varying regulations about church gatherings, but indoor services were banned in July. According to the Huffington Post, San Bernardino County is in the most restricted category, which is where Waters of Life is located.

The church, however, reopened for indoor services in November in defiance of the order. A church spokesman told the Los Angeles Times that Bryant stopped going to the church after he began experiencing symptoms, but was working right up until then. The church is planning a memorial service for Bryant, which will also be streamed online for anyone who does not want to attend in person.

Waters of Life (ironic name) has no reported plans to discontinue in person services.
