FP Edit: Alright listen up ya halfwits crying about the title. Steampunk most recognizably features anachronistic technologies or retro-futuristic inventions as people in the 19th century might have envisioned them. They do not strictly have to be propelled by steam per se, it is merely that steam was the most prominent engine used during that time period. So yes, it could use more pipes, and a giant feckin steam engine and a god dam top hat but it doesn't. That doesn't stop it from deriving of steampunk aesthetics. So stop staring down your pretentious noses and just ooh and ahh like the freewill gifted monkeys you are.

Pretty sure wheels exist in steampunk but have at it I guess

Regular wheelchairs tend to be hella jostle-y. This one looks like your bones are gonna shake their way out through your eyeballs.
pyr666
it's called a jansen's linkage, if you want to see more things like it. it's actually a very old idea, derived from basic kinematics.

Strandbeest!
AvidLebon
It is? I have seen it before but only in science-fictiony stuff. Does it have any (other) practical uses outside sculptures you know?
pyr666
even historically it's mostly a novelty. the idol dreams of old clock makers and such. the complexity is just overwhelming.
pyr666
old manufacturing equipment often used similar mechanisms. it's fallen out of style due to the advent of computer control.

Thank you! I am an artist and a fan of robots so these things interest me c:
