The one time that filming vertically is acceptable!

'Chute pops... Aaaaaaand gone forever.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Right here surrounded by tall grass and a bunch of trees. It’ll totally be easy to find when it comes down.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Neat, but thinking not a good hobby near an Air-force base at this time.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Did anyone else as a kid use to glue fins and a nose cone to the motor and then try launching it?

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Looks like team rocket is blasting off again.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Same 40 years ago. ?

If he starts running now, he might catch up to where it lands by dark.

But where was the red glare? The bombs bursting in air?

Estes

6 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Ended too soon. I needed to see the *pfft* from the parachute!

6 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 0

That is one very slowly burning motor.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Anyone else try scrolling up to follow the rocket?

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Chemtrails

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I think I stared too long at this part of the background.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Right next to a forest? He will never see that rocket again.

6 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 0

First thing I thought too

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It appears to be windy as hell too.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Radio beacons are great but theyre several time more expensive than that rocket.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Is that slowed down or did they use a really weak engine?

6 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 4

Extreme slow motion. Most model rocket engines for vehicles that size only fire for 1-2 seconds. A C6-5 fires 1.8 seconds.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I guess slowed down, look at the grass in the beginning and during launch.

6 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

If you play it at x2 it looks a lot more realistic.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I was gonna say! NASA needs to contact them asap for such a controlled launch.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Somebody should reverse this gif to look like the SpaceX booster return.

Thank you. That was wonderful.

Having seen October Sky, I'd be especially impressed if he made it himself.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yeah. Except it didn’t. At all!! How was the trajectory so good???

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thrust, center of mass, and appropriate fin geometry.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thank you, I was hoping for it

6 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 1

This is one of my favorites gifs. ?

One of my favorite activities as a younger person! Need to start again with my kiddo +1 badass!

6 years ago | Likes 145 Dislikes 0

Same here. My kids are about old enough to do this. I need to find a good field to launch.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I too! It was great fun chasing to find it again when it was coming down on its little parachute.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Find a NAR or Tripoli club in your area. They will do model rockets (accessible for kids) as well as high power rockets which are amazing.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Thanks for the info! I'll look those up!

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Me too, but how tf the rocket in video keeps the course so straight? It's either wizardry or giroscopy.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Slow to nonexistent wind and fins that are straight will help. Even then they will wiggle a bit.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Oh that just sparked the memory of a space shuttle one I had that blew up. Never even found a fragment of it.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Turns out it happened around the same time as the Challenger.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I lived in NH at the time. It was extra somber up there.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah man! I made a simple water rocket for/with my 4 y/o. First launch it flew over a 3 story house and landed in the street in the front!

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

He loves it and I love it too!

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That's a good idea! I forgot about (I think they're called) Air Hogs! Takes me back, man, takes me back!

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Can confirm, I'm getting back into it after a 20 year hiatus. Used to think a "D" size motor was big, they now make "G" and up! Crazy!

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I thought D engines were huge, too! All my rockets used As or Bs. One of my “cool” friends had a rocket that used Cs! My son is...

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

young for this and I’d love to get him into these, too. Built my 1st when I was in 6th or 7th grade.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

We were shooting H motors back in the early 90's. Hobby stores wouldn't carry anything above a D normally.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Welcome to the age of Chinese Amazon merchants!

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yup, I'm in Ontario Canada, to even buy a engine over a E size they want proof of age, (over 19) SWEET!!! LOL!!!

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yep, Im launching a few K's next weekend. Its like 100$ a pop though.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yikes! Try to do what we do, we get 3 or four of us together and pitch in, keeps the cost down. (Though any savings usually go for beers!)

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I can afford it, but I dont launch many every year. When you go high power its an expensive hobby!

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Do it! My son and I would spend many a Saturday at the H.S. field shooting rockets & watching others doing the same. Great fun.

6 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Honest question because I never cared before, do we have to alert anyone or get permission to launch rockets? I'm such a dad! Lol

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

We never did as we were on public ground. We would be aware of our surroundings, practice safety, and yell fire in the hole before launch

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Fair enough and good enough for me!

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Have fun and use a motorcycle battery, that prevents a great day becoming a bummer and will help you meet some great guys.
