That’s a lead part, not a break down.

That is some good stuff right there. Thanks for sharing.

If you're going to ruin a good fiddle breakdown by drumming over it, at least have the decency to do it on a bodhran!

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Where is the hurdy gurdy solo??

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Right after the duet with the mellotron and the theremin

So many people here don't know how to spell Eluveitie.

5 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

And fewer can pronounce it

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Thráésh metal

5 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 2

All I can think of is the camera person just standing there violently shaking the camera in rhythm to the song

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

That's amazing, but someone get the focus pull ring away from the camera guy, HOLY FUCK

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

This makes me miss the pit!

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Circle up buddy let's get skanking

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Uh, that's just a generic Irish folk reel with a metal backing band.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I've seen them live. Eluvetti. Very fun but not Alestorm fun

5 years ago | Likes 57 Dislikes 3

Not enough Vodka and Tequila?

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

whoa

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm scared to see Alestorm live. They legit made me realize I had alcoholic tendencies HAHA

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

If they are near, they are worth it. We had to travel quite a ways to be honest but I'd do it again

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Ah alestorm. I came out of that show with a bloody shin and a black eye. Good stuff

5 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

I don't have the energy for in the lanky fuck by the speaker with a pint nodding

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I've never seen Alestorm live, but I still feel like that's an unfairly high bar. They must be an absolute blast

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I wouldn't compare these bands. They are not really doing the same thing

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

it is. i discovered by surprise. and wé had an absolutely blast, this was a true party

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They are. I mean it's a blast but the second Wodka starts it's absolutely jumping

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

*Eluveitie. An they don't aim to be a party band, their lyrics are historically highly accurate

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Violin and hurdy gurdy are hot as hell too

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Hard to make a show more fun than a heavy metal pirate party

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

interesting....but now i just wanna listen to Children of Bodom

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Not enough fiddle or violin in metal. The only thing this is missing is more cowbell.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Eluveitie on the front page? Today is a good day.

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

That Drowsy Maggie don't seem so drowsy anymore...

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That's not a breakdown, that's a standard irish reel. If you guys are into that there's a metric fuckton of it out there w/o the distortion.

5 years ago | Likes 139 Dislikes 0

I recommend John Doyle and Liz Carrol. JD has very modern syncopation in his guitar accompaniment and Liz is a treasure.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Just a variation of Drowsy Maggie, right? About as standard an Irish reel as you can find these days. Everyone covers it, just slower.

5 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

I did recognize it from middle school violin practice, yeah. Rather faster than I played it though..

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's really amazing how she gets around, despite being so lethargic.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

You should try Apocalyptica. They're awesome. Started with Metallica covers and then came awesome original songs.

5 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

Or, Rasputina.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

There's also been a fun trend of Hurdy Gurdy players doing metal songs as well. People like Michalina Malisz, Patty Gurdy, & Guilhem Desq.

5 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Patty Gurdy rocks!

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I just started listening to this group recently. It ain't metal, but it's folk done well IMO: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=02aEd7bhsas

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

you can get metal without distortion? I thought it was a brutal part of the genre

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

crucial* but brutal too

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I meant the irish reel.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Eluveiti - King; i think thats the song

There's a live recording of this in spotify which is fucking amazeballs

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Saw Eluveitie love a few years back, one of the best performances I've ever seen. They have so much energy and presence on stage

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

You need it for that flute playing alone

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yes, it is

5 years ago | Likes 61 Dislikes 2

+1 great band with an epic discography

5 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Saw them live at SummerBreeze metal fest in 2019. First time I heard them and they were awesome!

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Sad that they lost Anne, Merlin... couple others I think after this album.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Can confirm

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Call of the mountain are their best work imo. Though i kinda prefer the original, not the English version.

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Check out their song "Inis Mona" too. That and call of the mountain are my top two for them

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Yeah forgot about that one.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Inis MOna is great, Dessumiis Luge is also pretty sick

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Idk, from darkness & celtos are hard to beat from that album, & I really love Alesia... or heck, I love the whole Helvetios album tbh, from+

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

+ the concept through to the music, it's gorgeous. From Darkness is my ringtone though, that intro is so good

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

5 years ago | Likes 219 Dislikes 0

Is that Ozzy?

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

A hurdy-gurdy, too!

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Tin whistle, very Irish instrument to use. As is the fiddle too. Actually very celtic looking for a Swiss band

5 years ago | Likes 31 Dislikes 0

A lot of their music has gaelic influences. They even use a few irish instruments as well.

5 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

They're Helvetic Celtic. Tried to migrate to Celtish Gual, but were slaughtered by the Romans. Most of their music tells the story

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Oh class, thank you for explaining. Ill have to look further into it

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It confused me too so I looked it up. Had no idea Celts lived there. The history is really interesting. They tried to migrate to Gaul to

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Get away from pressure of the Germanic tribes, but Caesar thought they were trying to move to Gaul as a unification to fight Rome.

Methro tull?

There are a few Finnish folk metal bands (Korpiklaani, Moonsorrow, Finntroll, etc) that are a similar blend. Highly reccomend.

5 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

Dotting for future reference

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Adding Turisas and Ensiferum to complete Big 5 of (Finnish) Folk Metal.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yea, Finland truly is the home of all the weird metal. I say this with a twinkle in my eye. I really enjoy it.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Apocalyptica comes to mind.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Not really folk metal though.
