WWII era?

A fellow veteran's grandfather recently passed. This was found in his security deposit box. Original poster:

Any old Navy vets on my page or anyone who knows one? His Grandfather was a survivor of Pearl Harbor and was a door gunner on a bomber at Midway. This was something left to the family after he passed and they want to find out what it is. Any help would be appreciated.

Bueller?

Update: No update. The vet, or his family, are going to get it from their safety deposit box on Monday and give him some more info. As of right now, from all the people trying to find out, this is either a plumb bob or an elaborate victorian era brooch. Updates soon, I hope.

Looks to be a round tuit. It's not every day you get one of those.

it appears to be the most ornate alabama rig that I've ever seen. seems like a waste to take so much time crafting something so easily lost

Scale reference would be very helpful.

Thats an alien technology from the early 1940's. They would stick them in our butts so they could track us anywhere in the galaxy.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Could be something hand made by either him or a friend.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Put a quarter next to it for scale.

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

You're both wrong, it's clearly a whatchamacallit, with a bobble on the end.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Listen noob, everyone knows all whatchamacallit's have bobbles on one end. This clearly has bobbles on both ends. Do your research.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

You can't even see where the bobble on the other end would be!
