Wasn't that at El-Toro airbase?

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Solid Code 2 right there.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Like a glove....

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I don't think that's what's supposed to happen...

Flying is for droids!

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That'll work.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Another happy landing.

7 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

This looks like it's the FA-18 crash from the 1988 MCAS El Toro Air Show. I recall the Pilot had spinal injuries from it.

7 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Colonel Jerry Caddick was the pilot I believe.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Code 2, flyable.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Nailed IT

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You just witnessed the birth of a new safety officer.

*Landing gear salesman slaps runway*

7 years ago | Likes 186 Dislikes 2

I think it was the plane that slapped the runway, actually.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You can fit so many shat bricks on this bad boy.

That pilot can no longer shit because of the pucker factor

Don't trust him! I hear he has a drinking problem.

“Like a glove” ~probably the pilot after jumping out

7 years ago | Likes 28 Dislikes 0

That or "save me Tom cruise!"

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Looks like MCAS El Toro airshow, back in the 80's. Engines flamed out.

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Too low and/or no power.

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Was the plane salvageable at all?

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Hello AAA ?? i need a tow for my F-18

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

nailed it!

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Bondo to the rescue!

7 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

Remarkable work from the pilot, to be fair. Went from "he ded" to "he whiplashd" in about 5 seconds

7 years ago | Likes 55 Dislikes 0

I'm not so sure about that. I saw a very similar crash at the Dayton Air Show a few years ago, and the pilot died.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

The pilot did survive but his injuries were severe (I don't recall exactly but he had alot of fractures).

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Lucky.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

I know nothing about flying, but I feel like if he didn't point the plane directly at the ground this might not have happened to start with?

7 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 6

Airspeed is your friend. W/O airspeed, you're not flying, your stailling. And how you gain airspeed? Point it at the ground.

7 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

But not at the closest piece of ground. You pick some ground over there.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

So I don't really see why we're complementing this dude.

7 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 7

probably from the 5+min befor this gif, no one would ever be there with engines running

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I think the guy above you is the only one who is serious. My inexperienced guess is he did a manuvuer too low to the ground.

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

Yeah, he pulled about fifty feet too low.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That was a crash during an airshow. There was no emergency, the pilot just misjudged how close he was to the ground.

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I feel like that constitutes an emergency

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

OP makes it sound like that was an emergency approach because of no gear. It wasn't the guy just crashed.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And he's safe on third

7 years ago | Likes 341 Dislikes 2

According to my old sarge, as long as he's wearing a pt belt he's invincible.

7 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 0

Holy cow, stolen base! Takin' a pretty big lead out there, almost darin 'em to try and pick'm off...pitcher glances over, winds-up and it's

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

But who's on third ?

7 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

I don't know.

7 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Naturally

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

No, who's on first.

7 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Well, that's gonna require an incident report.

7 years ago | Likes 825 Dislikes 1

90% of the time report will say pilot error

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

Well, a log book entry at the very least.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Just write it off as a "near miss"

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You know that shit happened on a Friday too.

7 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

and most likely that aircraft will never fly again.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

“Just blame it on the maintenance crew.”

7 years ago | Likes 96 Dislikes 0

OMG, this!

7 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

Along with a change of boxers for the pilot!

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

SoooooooOoOoOooOoOoOoOoOOoOoOoOoO worth that paperwork

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Should buff right out.

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Naah, just a hard landing

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Altitude tank ran dry, ground crew to blame

7 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Bravo, well done. I'm stealing that.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

i wonder if you can bill the pilot for effin it up. or if they got insurance against that.

7 years ago | Likes 28 Dislikes 1

In a few cases they have in Russia, sometimes pilot sometimes commander/general.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

No government employee has that kind of money.

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I mean i did hear that if you have 20 dollar and no debt you are richer than the avg american, if thats true you can't pay for that damage.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You can insure military aircraft, getting shot at and all

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

He probably got yelled at for not bailing out like he should have.

7 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

He seemed a little low for bailing out.

7 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 3

Well if the landing gear didn't come down the pilot is not at fault here.

7 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 5

Unless the gear worked fine and this was just a failed maneuver.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That wasn't an attempt at landing with gear. If he'd deployed it, the gear would have crumpled under the jet. This was a controlled crash

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Even that's a stretch. I think the pilot reacted well to a very bad situation. Maybe gauges were wrong, maybe pilot was wrong, but he landed

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The landing gear isnt the problem here

7 years ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 0

I think that'll buff out.

7 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Did the pilot eject? If not, will this one count against them? (I read recently where there is a limit to ejections...)

7 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Yes. “If you keep fucking up, it costs too much so you’re gonna have to kill yoself at some point thanyouverymuch”

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It depends. If you're unlucky enough to have your spine crush under compression of the first ejection the limit is 1 ejection.

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

The RAF have a 3 ejection limit, using the ejection seat can shorten you by upto an inch per operation and cause crazy damage to your body.

7 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

If you get to your ejection limit they stick you on a desk job. They’re built to get you from the aircraft in 1.5 seconds. Crazy speed.

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

1.5 seconds from sitting behind a flight yolk to shooting through the sky.. yeah that might need a chiropractor.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

There are no a limit to ejections, at least in the States. Source: Was an Egress Craftsman for 6 years in the USAF.

7 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Lol.. love the “spider in the cockpit” cartoon.. but it was similar to this, just from a different perspective. Thanks so much!

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

2/ I should caveat that with; ejecting is not easy on the body and physically a certain individual may have limiting factors placed on them.

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Still easier on body than dying. This guys was really lucky, that could go horribly wrong really quick.

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Lucky and skilled. Good combo.
