I think it's time for a citizenship test. By which I mean every single US citizen should pass a basic knowledge test, and if they can't pass it, they're deported to Russia or something.

yeah, yeah, I know. But it'd be nice, yeah? :P

They are the same idiots who talk about “American only” but forget there is two Americans north and south

5 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 9

these idiots really think "illegals" are being sent back "where they came from" specifically and not, you know, to whatever shithole country will do Trump the solid of taking them?

I know the whole poll tax debate has been settled, but I’m really starting to think we need to start using basic civics as a minimum threshold, because HOLY FUCK, I’M TIRED OF MORONS VOTING!

5 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Well Nebraska has political representation by way of voting where Puerto Rico doesn't (please improve or clarify my comment if necessary) so it wouldn't be EXACTLY like deporting someone to Nebraska.

5 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

By that logic, anyone born in Washington DC wasn't born in any American state.

5 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Don’t wrestle with pigs. You will end up covered in shit and the pig will like it.

5 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah not surprising that the plan is to simply weaponize procedure against someone they know will pass the tests, specifically because it would silence them during their opportunity to speak.

Honestly speaking, I'm from West Virginia. Most people do indeed recognize that I am American, but I cannot tell you how many times I have said where I'm from and had a reply along the lines of "Oh how is it in Virginia?" Even from otherwise decently educated people. I am not at all surprised how many people don't know about Puerto Rico when there are people that don't even know the fifty fucking states.

Suggestion , I know this is going to sound crazy, but bear with me. Don't watch it. Problem solved!

But the very existence of something I don't like bothers me!

"Oh sure, like I'm not gonna watch the Super Bowl Halftime show!"

5 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

This regime does not serve any due process to determine if someone is here legally, and they do not deport to their country of origin - they send them wherever. So any one of us could be disappeared, but someone that rich, probably not.

Literally 10 seconds on Google shows PR is an American territory.

5 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

About that started slamming the door on bad music at the Super Bowl … but this is beyond the pale

5 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They're so. Fucking. Stupid.

5 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Can someone help me out? I thought Yellow was being sarcastic. Like, it’s obviously stupid to deport him there because he’d still be a US citizen. But clearly I’m wrong?

5 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And Red confuses me too! I thought they were making the point that he’s Puerto Rican, you can’t deport someone there. But then their second comment seems to not believe he’s from there?

5 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

since they are talking about creating white homeland where America used to stand, let's start giving them genetics tests to see exactly how white they actually are. a lot of them will find out there was some coloured person in their background.

As a Nebraskan, please don't send people from Ohio here! We didn't do anything to deserve that. Please, think of the repercussions.

I just rolled my eyes so hard I think I saw my own brain.

There should be 2 minimum wages. and until you past that citizenship test you get the lower one.

5 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 12

I dunno why you want to make republicans suffer like that.

5 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Because cruelty is the point

5 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 3

incentive. the same reason they give for refusing to raise the miniumum wage. it incentivizes personal betterment.

5 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I once tried to watch this live. My god, it was boring.

5 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

What did you watch, republicans being stupid? Or the superbowl?

5 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

yes?

@OP, I'll do you one better: If they don't pass the basic citizenship test, they get "deported" to Guam and Alaska, and not allowed to return to the Lower 48 until they pass the fucking test unassisted.

5 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Upside: Alaska gets to increase their population and in turn, get more federal dollars; at the same time, allowing them to get more of a say in government (but not as much of a say as California and Texas).

Downside: Alaska.

5 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Seems unfair to Guam and Alaska, but I'm all for it. :)

5 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Guam is gonna sink under the waves due to global warming. Chunks of Alaska, too.

Guan might just tip over. If you remember that old gem. Heh

People who fail this badly in U.S. civics shouldn't be permitted anywhere near a voting apparatus.

5 months ago | Likes 161 Dislikes 1

Most people couldn't find Nebraska or Ohio on a map.

This is the 'education system' the right has been building exactly for this reason.

5 months ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

I'd argue that their propaganda machine is just as powerful. But yeah.

5 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

No, this is why our representation should be reflected exclusively by population. The hybrid system of the senate and house was only done as a concession from the slave owning elite to prevent an immediate civil war. Those elites have spent the last several generations using the senate to claw back their power, in part by neutering the house at its foundation, an educated informed, and active citizenry. But too much damage has been done and shit is beyond saving. We just gotta act accordingly.

5 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

That’s just inviting the state to design a civics test that lets only the loyal citizens pass and vote.

5 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I worry about their breathing apparatus, too, for that matter.

5 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I read this as 'breeding' apparatus.

5 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

ha, but I think it's the fascists who are generally "concerned" with that. ;-)

5 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

There hasn't been a civics class in high schools since the 80's

5 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

As someone who attended his high school civics class in 1997 (in Louisiana no less), this is false.

5 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You should poke around Youtube on this subject. A guy named Mr Beat would be an illuminating choice. He's a former History/Civics teacher who made a video where he and some other teacher badly flunked an actual citizenship test. The tests have only ever been methods to block certain voters. The USA has no experience at all with 'fair' citizenship tests.

5 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Exactly. Any test can be twisted so only the ones the test writers want to pass will pass.

5 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I've been saying for YEARS now that I want Americans to be able to pass a very basic civics test to be able to vote in federal elections. It's astounding how ignorant so many people are of how their government is supposed to work.

5 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Okay but you're viewing means testing through the eyes of someone with a moral compass and actual ethics. Idk if its possible for you, but view it through the eyes of a blood sucking sociopathic parasite and just think of the myriad of ways you could slowly but subtle subvert and pervert that system to start making gains in your favor. Even tiny step let's them take a slightly bigger step next time. And we get the same situation as we're in now still. The true solutions are an educated, 1/2

5 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Informed, and actively involved citenzry, alongside a transparent enough system that said citizenry can catch and fix shit before inertia makes the problem impossible to resolve. Mandatory voting, reworking of bills from dense legaleese so they are readable by even those with disabilities. Mandatory civics/ethics,history classes and not the whitewashed shit either. Hell maybe a mandatory (non military) service in emergency response/social work/etc even. 2/2

5 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You are just describing a way to let the state control who has the right to vote. There is a reason why the US grants the right to vote for every adult citizen. Disenfranchising citizens is not how democracy actually wins.

The answer is to educate the ignorant.

5 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Think you're replying to the wrong guy. Unless you missed how I explicitly called out means testing. Everything else i stated is how I believe you foster a healthy democracy from the bottom up by ensuring a strong citizenry with the time, the means, and the desire to be actively involved in keeping their elected officials in check, and with the means to rock their shit when, not if, things get out of hand. I mean no bullshit, right into general strikes/ organizing recalls and more type society.
