Abandoned in 2005 after Hurricane Katrina caused extensive damage, the park has been lying untouched in seriously poor condition ever since. No plans as of now exist to repair or even tear down the park. It just sits there, waiting for the next production company to want to use it for a horror movie.

I've never seen the charm in exploring abandoned places until now. I desperately want to go there.

Creepy af, but good photography

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It was sold to the highest bidder for $5.5M, I'll be curious to see what they do with that dump. The surrounding area is pretty awful too

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Well ya, being built below water level and all...

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Dude, anything can look creepy from the right camera angle and with the right filters

8 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 1

it's true, I've been there. It's interesting, but not creepy. New Orleans can do creepy but this ain't it.

Reminds me of https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FGC-lvCWsrM "Grandma's Chicken Salad"

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I know a few photographers that have been robbed going in there. I'd like to see some unfiltered photos of it. I'm too chicken two go.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

To. Damnit.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Can anyone just go inside?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I could see it being the setting of one of the stories from r/nosleep.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Is that Whispering Oaks?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

So strange to see this. I was there like 2 months before the hurricane

8 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 1

I'm remembering going on each of the rides as I look at them

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They didn't really evacuate it; just closed on the day of the warning and never came back.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I wonder how cool cool zone really was. This also reminds me of Nuka world.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It would have been heaven this time of year.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It was just an area to get drinks and had misters all over the place.

Six Flags' name was taken from the original park, Six Flags over Texas. A tribute to the 6 nations that Texas has been a part of. 1/2

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Spain, France, Mexico, the Republic of Texas, the United States, and the Confederate States of America. Aint trivia grand? 2/2

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Spent a lot of my childhood in Texas & was confused to learn there were Six Flags parks in other states. Apparently franchises eluded me

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My Dad took my brother and me on vacation trips. We did 6 Flags over Texas, Georgia, and St Louis in consecutive summers in the early 70's.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Is this because of Katrina?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yes, that storm destroyed so much of our city. And no one ever thought to restore that place

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Just think of all the mosquitoes

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That had to be one gigantic, motherfucking write-off...

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I might be wrong but I think they were trying to Weasel their way out of a 90 year lease.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

They did get outta that lease in 2009, paying for 4 years for a park they couldn't use.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

By sheer coincidence when Katrina hit they were also selling off parks en masse to avoid defaulting on loans from poor financial management

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Poor timing indeed. Investing all that capital into a park to only use it for four years didn't exactly provide an incentive to rebuild.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You mean I can get in? For FREE?!

8 years ago | Likes 117 Dislikes 0

But what about parking cost

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Technically, you can get in for free everywhere

8 years ago | Likes 40 Dislikes 1

Asked the same question when I found a dead hooker

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yup! You can even get a free stab from the serial killer that lives there

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Get robbed going in there.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

And get arrested. No trespassing and they do prosecute.

8 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 1

Who monitors the area? And why?

8 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

I would assume Six Flags, and liability reasons.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Louisiana native here, NOPD patrols it occasionally. People try to sneak in to take pics and shoot footage which can be pretty unsafe.

8 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 1

I wish it was just a rule that if you trespass, the property owner isn't responsible for your safety. (Of course there are reasons that 1/2

8 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Doesn't work.) 2/2

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Awesome place for airsoft imho

8 years ago | Likes 122 Dislikes 2

Fuck yea

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Was thinking the same thing would definitely go Airsoft there

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I was just thinking the same thing.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I would rather go paintballing here.

8 years ago | Likes 36 Dislikes 4

And splatter everything with nasty ass crud? Ruins it for following events.

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I don't think it would degrade anything too bad, but I get what you're saying.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Real guns, 1 life execution rules, no snipers or shotguns

Does anyone here know the filter or lense type used on #12 that gets those eerie pictures?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

It's post production/ photo shop

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

(1/2) This is a type of photographic technique called HDR (High Dynamic Range). Basically, you take multiple pictures at different exposures

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

(2/2) and then in post, combine them together. An algorithm takes the highlights from the underexposed and the darks from the overexposed.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Why is it that every single abandoned place has every single piece of glass broken out... always...

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Well in this case it was the whole "massive hurricane" thing.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Nah man. Even Katrina would have spared stuff like the TV screens inside the still-structurally-sound buildings. I think it's thugs moving

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

in after the place is abandoned and just breaking shit for no reason...
