I notice they didn't put it in a pressure pot before turning it on the lathe...

This is as dumb as anything a white girl with a glue gun would do.

Thank you, it is grotesque.

ugh of course it would be resin some resin stuff is cool but this always feels like the lazy/unimaginative way to me

3 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I guess that's...a thing.

3 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

I'm not a big fan of glued-in LED elements. They last longer than bulbs, but we all know they do burn out. This thing is a disposable lamp.

4/10

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

That's a lot of parmesan cheese wasted

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yet another tacky "epoxy art" video.

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Most resin art is so half baked.

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

God bless I just downvoted this post this morning - now to do the same to the repost.

3 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

Fair enough, I can upvote consistency.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 3

Ahh, yes the series "gaudy plastic and wood in unholy matrimony."

3 years ago | Likes 34 Dislikes 0

A bunch of environmentally killing procedures, a lamp you have to throw away because you can’t change the bulb & fire-starter electrical.

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

A separate base? A non-replaceable LED? Think these things through before you go lathing stuff, people. BAD DESIGN.

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Guys today I am going to turn RESIN into Internet points!

3 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

Resin time, resin time, do do do do resin time.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm convinced this is the only reason that epoxy art exists. Nobody wants this crap in their house. It's for making videos and getting views

3 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

This looks familiar ? lol

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

You ponder that thing or what?

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I mean.... I would not put this thing in my house....

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It looks pretty sharp, kind of like a cave or something. Hitting an air bubble while turning is no fun, but there's always an outside (1/2)

3 years ago | Likes 47 Dislikes 2

chance of hitting a bark inclusion or bug hole in a solid turning blank or a glue joint failing. Turning isn't 100% safe. (2/2)

3 years ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 1

Does it though? I was pretty underwhelmed at the finished product.

3 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 1

Same. Looked interesting till he turned off the lights

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

All that and they put black tape on the white power wire....

3 years ago | Likes 111 Dislikes 3

Black tape on white power? There's a joke in here somewhere

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

TO SHOW YOU HOW WELL FLEX TAPE WORKS, I SAWED THIS WHITE SUPREMACIST IN HALF!

All that effort for a shitty lamp?

3 years ago | Likes 34 Dislikes 2

Should’ve painted the toothpicks like stalagmites and put little aquatic figures in there.

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

And some skeleton minis.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I know this shit is pretty but all I can think is... Yay.. Microplastics... Anyone else?

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

This reminds me that I need to learn to use my lathe.

3 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

Red Krueger did a video on that a while back https://youtu.be/dZp5Pr2nnb4

Sorry *Rex

Judging by the depth of the pour, it was probably one of those super liquidy resins that takes 2 weeks to cure.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Hey Timmy, I know the nano-plastics weren't stopped by your blood-brain barrier, but look at this sweet resin lamp with toothpicks in it.

What is that, burr oak? Looks nice

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Some kind of oak. I sold it before I got photos, so I don't really remember.

Wait, you do kick-ass wood woodworking and like guinea pigs? Awesome

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

How do you change the bulb?

3 years ago | Likes 229 Dislikes 2

Planned obsolescence. This will be tossed in the dump when it no longer works. To me, this is poor design. Pretty, but poor design.

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

Dude it's an Etsy DIY not an Apple phone. Also you change lamps because times change while LED can last even 20 years.

That's the neat part. You don't.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Instead of just a small hole for the wires, you could drill a bigger hole and be able to pull the LED bit out and replace

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

My thoughts exactly

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You throw it out and replace the whole thing making more microplastics for the rivers

3 years ago | Likes 119 Dislikes 3

3 years ago | Likes 37 Dislikes 2

People can recycle all they want. It's a nice thought. But companies have to change how they produce and discard to make a real change.

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Remember, most environmental advertising is paid for by litter producing companies to shift blame to the consumer. Go check out the funding

For the Crying Indian PSA. Styrofoam cups, cigarettes, paper plates. It helped them push back against regulation of packaging.

Biggest producers of pollution, that doesn't mean you should be actively producing more microplastic waste on purpose because you are an(2

Individual. This isn't coming after a person with a disability using a single use plastic. This is producing a wasteful useless lamp(3

3 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 2

It's an LED. You don't have to.

3 years ago | Likes 36 Dislikes 17

I replace LED ceiling lights frequently on audiology testing booths. They die, especially in an enclosed space with lots of insulation.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

3 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Oh if only that lie was true. They deliberately over drive Lead's to make sure they fail.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 3

Look up the Dubai LED bulb on BigCliveDotCom's YouTube channel if you want independent proof, but most of us have known this for years.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

There are multiple reasons you shouldn't over drive them, life expectancy of the components, disproportionate heat increase and energy waste

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And because they change the sinewave of your AC mains, they cause dirty RF to be generated creating RF pollution.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Who does? Who's They? Do you see the LED driver used for this project or are you just speculating about stuff you arent familiar with

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

The whole industry does.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Brother I work in the LED lighting design industry. This is wholly untrue

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

LED's could potentially last indefinitly, IF you drove them to about 70% of the max power and use more LED's in the COB. However the whole

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

If it's a well made thing it can last a long time but still kinda dicey to have non-replaceable electronics IMO.

3 years ago | Likes 52 Dislikes 2

Then it just doesn't light up. The light is cool but not essential.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And not all leds are created equal, a lot of them die from over heating way before they're supposed to

3 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

You just make a new one

3 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

Wasteful of time and resources. And also creates more waste that needs to be managed. That stuff probably isn't recyclable.

3 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

Thanks Buzz Killington

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

LED's can last upwards of 20 years, especially well-encapsulated ones like this.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I've had maybe ten LED bulbs fail, mostly Noma brand. One almost caught fire. Longevity is a myth.

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 3

Yeah Noma is a store brand bulb from Canadian Tire. Buy Cree or GE LED bulbs if you want Actual Longevity

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Maybe purchase a higher quality product next time

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

maybe they just like bubbles?

3 years ago | Likes 333 Dislikes 1

Major hazard for a lathe though.

3 years ago | Likes 65 Dislikes 4

Maybe the vacuum pulled the resin before pouring… works nearly as good.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

As someone inexperienced in woodworking, please explain.

3 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 0

If you are unlucky you only get a wood handle thrown at you. If it’s the pointy end then it’s not your problem anymore.

3 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

I'd imagine that depends where the pointy bit hits

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Air pockets would be gaps where your cutting tool has nothing to cut. Your tool will jump when it hits hard material again.

3 years ago | Likes 59 Dislikes 0

I see. I assume this also has the potential to shatter and/or crack the resin, also?

3 years ago | Likes 31 Dislikes 0

If the flaw reaches all the way through the workpiece, it can fly apart while being turned at high speed. Had it happen with a knot, once. >
