I've always had issues with the small stuff. And the big stuff. Well, the stuff in general.

If I had to express where I got my moral alignment, I'd have to say more than half of it probably came from Sir Terry Pratchett, the rest from Jesus.

I miss him.

This dump has a LOT of Monty Python and the Holy Grail, and Lord of the Rings. Just warning you all.

This makes me giggle more than it should.

One of my favorite parts from one of my favorite Pratchett books.

I re-read Reaper Man every harvest season. Referenced it in a harvest poem once. I'll have to track it down if you all are interested.

(I'm genuinely surprised and pleased at the enjoyment of my poetry, BTW. I appreciate that you all like it. I'll share some older works later. Didn't write anything new yesterday.)

Their broship by the end really is one of my favorite parts of LOTR.

A rare LOTR and Monty Python crossover.

As I've mentioned in previous dumps... this is me. Totally me. And I feel like whenever I let myself get that happy... it gets yeeted away.

I know this is just survival bias and memory playing tricks on me... but it is hard to break from.

I wish more people were like this around me. Or that I could remember not to believe that voice more often.

This would be awesome too. I have a few ideas rolling around in my head.

For those who still have special lovers.

(In my case, it's more of a nightmare that I still think of her, but I know thats not what the author meant here.)

Dinosaurs are amazing. The Pippin is the specialist dinosaur.

Oops.

I found myself craving an IPA the other day. Wtf.

About fucking time someone got it right.

I think I'm 7 today.

Yeah.

A rare Expanse Meme. Read most of the books, haven't seen the series yet.

It's invasive as fuck.

Someday I want to cosplay as Treebeard and have Pippin sit on me.

*dun dun*

A second LOTR and Monty Python crossover. A blessing! A blessing from the Lord!

Tragically.

*SNERK*

I remember having all of these zoobooks.

How's that for a magic crystal, Sedona?

*muffled answer with a thumb up*

A rare Star Trek and LOTR crossover.

Pippin tax!

I'll figure out an older poem to post timorrow.

#3 Has got me laugh-snorting.

That’s an oddly specific number…

That's what I got

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yes. 6000 = x/2 - 10

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I think so.

Actually the roots will depend on soil and rainfall amounts. Some need to go deeper than others.

No brain is perfect, they're squishy organic reality filters. Lean in to what yours is good at, and work around what it's bad at.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

If your conscious self puts in the work and the rest of your brain shits the bed, there's no point in punishing the conscious self about it.

#17 You can try using voice typing to help eliminate *some* of the effort. My gf uses voice typing to write her essays for school.

Than she cleans it up and corrects grammar, run ons, etc.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I've never read anything by Terry Pratchett, what's a good first book?

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Small Gods or Hogfather are good stand alone starters.

A quick Google search says Unseen Academicals

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

I have only been born once as far as I'm aware and I'm not really interested in being saved. Thanks though.

#24 Ooh boy, this really hurts. I've thought about this myself, and how I can only picture doom when I think of the future

4 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 0

Bladerunner, only with animatronic RealDolls instead of simulants.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That just makes you a Gen Xer or Millennial.

I thought overpopulation would be a much bigger problem when I was a kid. Eh, I'm still not convinced it isn't.

Hey Star Trek started after WWIII and a cyberpunk apocalypse.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I read reaper man many times as a teenager. Not read any in some time. A great shame there will be no more

#1 If you hold all your stuff yourself, you'll be too weak to keep holding it up. It's okay to need help.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I think that pessimist's view of the future is why I actually like retrofutrism so much. Also, if I can't kill you in any way that matters(1

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

do you live or exist in any way that I should care about? Or even at all? (2

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

What Pratchett book should I start with?

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Hogfather is a great standalone. Then go wild.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Well. That depends. What do you like in a book ?

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

This. Start with a book that parodies something you know and you'll get so many more (yet not all) of the jokes and references.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

If one of the subseries (Watch, Witches, Death, etc.) particularly intrigues you you can start at the beginning of that one. Otherwise 1/2

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I've seen Small Gods recommended as a good start - it's a stand-alone and a good example of the series' philosophy and humor. 2/2

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I would recommend guards! Guards! But I'm most fond of the night watch series.

4 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Thirded I suppose. The Night Watch series is in my opinion peak Discworld.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Seconded. Starting with color if magic is fine, but the guard books are where Terry really hits his stride in my opinion.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I feel like Guards Guards is where Pratchett stopped satirizing fantasy and really started using fantasy to satirize society

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I started with Guards! Guards! After asking advice on here. Was NOT disappointed at all

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The Color of Magic is generally considered the best starting point but perhaps not the best of the series. There are many Discworld novels

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

Some might disagree about TCoM being not the best. Discworld can be an acquired taste: perhaps a mix of layered comedy with endearing truths

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

This, of course, is my limited understanding. I have admittedly read very little of the series.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

#11 Same here. It may be bias / the mind playing tricks, but that doesn't make it suck any less.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Yup, me too. Sadly it's a bit of a self-fulfilling prophecy for me but I can't seem to break the cycle.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0
